Development of a catalyst for epoxidation of methyl esters
Pham, Tien Thanh ; Krajčovič, Jozef (referee) ; Kučerík, Jiří (advisor)
The diploma thesis is focused on the study of heterogeneous catalysts in the epoxidation of rapeseed oil methyl ester. Epoxides of these components have applications in cutting oils, where they could replace hitherto used oils from fossil sources. Epoxidation is a catalyzed reaction using homogeneous catalysts based on mineral acids. However, they have corrosive properties and they are poorly separated after the reaction. However, this work is focused on the study of heterogeneous catalysts in epoxidation. The reaction products were analyzed by GC, SIMDIS and ATR-FTIR. Advanced analytical methods such as ICP-OES, XRF, XRD, SEM, mercury porosimetry and TPR-H2 were used to determine the composition, structural, textural and reducing properties of the catalysts.
Vietnamese University Students in the UK and Their Use of English Names
Pham, Thu Tra ; Sherman, Tamah (advisor) ; Luef, Eva Maria (referee)
and keywords The aim of this thesis is to investigate the management of personal names of Vietnamese students living and/or studying in the United Kingdom. It explores reasons for adopting English names, situations for different name usage, and motivations behind name choices. The data were obtained both quantitatively through a questionnaire and qualitatively through one-on-one interviews. The results confirm that management of personal names heavily depends on the individual. However, certain patterns can be observed. The study's findings demonstrate that participants use strategies for selecting an English name that align with those proposed in previous works by Burt (2009), Chen (2015), and McPherron (2009). Additionally, the research corroborates the role of convenience as a significant factor influencing individuals to adopt an English name as proposed by previous research. However, the study also identifies deviations from existing literature. Notably, the trendiness of having an English name appears to hold less importance for the participants, differing from the findings of Barešová & Pikhart (2020). Furthermore, contrary to the perspectives of Chen (2015) and Heffernan (2010), the research indicates that adopting an English name for use in English classes does not significantly impact the...

Speech melody characteristics in Vietnamese English
Pham, Thu Tra ; Volín, Jan (advisor) ; Lewis, Suzanne (referee)
and key words The aim of this thesis is to describe the speech melody characteristics in Vietnamese English. Long-term distributional measures of fundamental frequency (F0) tracks for pitch level and pitch span were analyzed to determine whether Vietnamese English speakers exhibit narrower pitch range, one of the intonation errors made by language learners proposed in previous research. Another hypothesis was based on the idiosyncratic nature of intonation, and suggests that speakers show idiosyncrasies in their intonation. The data were obtained by extracting F0 tracks from recordings of eight Vietnamese English speakers. The results confirm that Vietnamese English speakers demonstrate narrower pitch range than British speakers. It also confirms the idiosyncratic nature of intonation in Vietnamese English speakers. Keywords: fundamental frequency, speech melody, foreign accent, prosodic phrase, nuclear pitch accent
The importance of sovereign wealth funds in the economy - the case of Singapore's Temasek
Pham, Tomáš Tuan ; Žamberský, Pavel (advisor) ; Jedlinský, Jakub (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to point out the importance of sovereign wealth funds in the economy. For this purpose was chosen Singapore's sovereign wealth fund Temasek. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis deals with the characteristics of sovereign wealth funds in the context of state capitalism. The practical part uses analytical and synthetic methods for examining the role of Temasek in Singapore's economy and its impact on state-owned enterprises. The thesis focuses on examining the influence of Temasek on fiscal policy and on the Singapore's balance of payments.
Vietnam as a tourist destination in the international tourism market
Pham Huynh, Thien Trang ; Abrhám, Josef (advisor) ; Hasík, Gabriel (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with Vietnam's position in the international tourism market. The main aim of the thesis is to better understand Vietnam's tourism interdependence, the development of the economy, which will be evaluated on the basis of key indicators analysis and analyze the position of the country in the current tourism market at the same time. This will help us to assess future trends at Vietnam tourist market. The first part deals with the general characteristics of tourism, the basic notions of tourism and economy. In the second part are mentioned basic information about the country and the economic analysis of the state are mentioned in the second part . The last chapter is dedicated to tourism in Vietnam, its position in this market and an estimation of future developments. All outcomes of this thesis are summarized in the SWOT analysis.
Travelling around Vietnam-application of Travelling Salesman Problem
Pham, Thuy Trang ; Dlouhá, Zuzana (advisor) ; Fábry, Jan (referee)
The circular traffic problem, also known as the Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) belongs to a group called distribution problems, which is one of the significant group of linear programming. These tasks can be used in many applications areas such as production planning, logistic or travelling. This thesis deals with the application of TSP or its modification to find the optimal route among selected Vietnamese destinations. The aim is to find the best circuit among 20 places out of 37 considering the cost and time. The first chapter concentrates on the general theory of linear programming including the description of economical and mathematical models of the selected distribution problems. The main part of this thesis focuses on The Travelling Salesman Problem itself and its practical application
The optical spectra of carbon-based thin films measured by the photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS)
Remeš, Zdeněk ; Pham, T.T. ; Varga, Marián ; Kromka, Alexander ; Stuchlík, Jiří ; Mao, H.B.
Our photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS) setup allows to measure simultaneously the absolute values of the optical transmittance T, reflectance R and absorptance A spectra of thin layers on glass substrates in the spectral range from ultraviolet to near infrared light with the typical spectral resolution 5 nm in the ultraviolet, 10 nm in visible and 20 nm in the near infrared region. The PDS setup provides the dynamic detection range in the optical absorptance up to 4 orders of magnitude. Here we demonstrate the usability of this setup by comparing the optical absorbance on a series of the carbon layer and nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) thin layers deposited on glass substrates by using the magnetron sputtering and the microwave based surface wave discharge in linear antenna chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes, respectively. The defect-induced localized states in the energy gap are observed in all carbon layers as well as in NCD.
