Figure of Josef Švejk
Krabsová, Veronika ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the main character of an unfinished four-part novel by Jaroslav Hašek, The Fateful Adventures of the Good Soldier Švejk During the World War. The protagonist of this work, Josef Švejk, is one of the most discussed issues in Czech literature. His character has stirred emotions since as early as the 1920's. The chapter "Classification of Interpretations" maps changes in Czech expert literary opinion regarding Josef Švejk (Švejk as a Sancho-Panza type, Švejk as a fairytale personality, Švejk as a storyteller and humorist, etc.). The longest part of the thesis is dedicated to the characteristics of the ambivalent hero: a physical characterization (it is interesting that Josef Švejk was never described in detail in the book; we mostly draw on illustrations by Josef Lada), a psychological characterization (readers have some misgivings about Josef Švejk; they don't know whether the figure is an idiot or a clever fellow) and a language (linguistic communication, diction and anecdotes describe Josef Švejk in large measure). This text also includes information about the genesis of protagonist Josef Švejk: The Good Soldier Švejk and Other Strange Stories - Josef Švejk before the World War; The Good Soldier Švejk in Captivity - Josef Švejk written during the War; The Fateful Adventures...

Plašil, Šimon ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
The aim of the Bachelorʾs thesis is to find and to interpret the Buddhist elements in the literary work Spalovač mrtvol of the author Ladislav Fuks. I work primarily with the novel, but I confront and compare it with the film adaptation. I interpret primarily the philosophy of the main character of Karel Koprfkingl whose opinions, attitudes and behavior I am comparing with Buddhist teachings, especially the Tibetan variant. Furthermore I prove a possible motivation for the use Buddhist elements. I refer to the life perspectiv of author and to the historical context of the time. Also I put the Spalovač mrtvol into the context of Czech literary works with Buddhist themes. In my bachelorʾs thesis I present all founded relations between the novel and the Buddhism, but I work primarily with the relations, which can be demonstrated as the author's intention. I interpret the symbolic elements in the novel and I prove their functional significance in the story. Key word Ladislav Fuks, buddhism, philosophy, Kopfrkingl, Tibet, symbol of characters, salvation, order, transformation, death
What do the novels start with ? To the poetics of incipit: based on the czech novels of the 20th century
Hozman, Václav ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on incipit of selected Czech novels of the twentieth century. This thesis deals with narrative work. The aim of the work is to analyze specific novel's beginnings, try to interpret them, to say what they signalize and to imply correlation of the incipit with the rest of the novel. The first chapter is dealing with the novel's beginnings in general. The author wants to refer to theoretical sources, which will become the base for the analysis of the chosen novel's incipit. The most important part is to define the term incipit as the entrance to the text world. That is the borderline of fiction and reality. The task of the incipit is to draw the reader into the fiction world of a novel. The incipit stops to be the incipit in the certain place of the book, the place where the reader is completely drown into the text world and where there is a point of no return. Each of the following chapters is focusing on the incipit of each of the book individually: Temno, Marketa Lazarova, Osudy dobreho vojaka Svejka za svetove valky, Hordubal, Zbabelci, Pribeh inzenyra lidskych dusi, Nesnesitelna lehkost byti and Obsluhoval jsem anglickeho krale. It was very important to keep the distance from knowing the whole book and to focus only on the beginning of the book from the reader's...

Reader - response strategy of Lustig's texts
Zimová, Lucie ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
Dissertation deals with reader-response strategies of some Lustig's texts. Our aim is to prove if Lustig relies on high subject and culture encyclopedia of his readers or if his works have esthetic value without these requirements. First part of this dissertation is devoted to the theory of reader-response esthetic. We shortly present the main terms and representatives of this concept. In analysis of this works we concentrate us on the story as an interaction of the process, narration, figures and of the space because these levels are the most substantial part for the work response. Dissertation is always divided into theoretic part which introduces us with the solution for the next analysis and into practical part where we within our scope try to interpret the used strategies. In the chapter "Narration" we mainly focus us on narrator and his possible unreliability further on the speech form and the telling order and speed. In the chapter "Figure as a text phenomenon" we are mainly interested in figure condition and the process of its imaging. Finally in the chapter "Space and its functionality" we are concerned with the problem how Lustig manages (does not) to display functional space without relying on culture encyclopedia of his readers. This show us that Lustig calculates with response horizon and thus...

Jiskrová, Zuzana ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This study tries to map the phenomenon of the personality of Jára Cimrman and of the humour present in the plays of his authors. It is mainly a literary study. A theatrologic view is used only in some parts of my work where it is necessary for the right understanding of the problem and the perception of the whole breadth of its humour. General knowledge about the poetic of the plays is then concretisized by the attempt of interpretation of the final play of the cycle - Czech Heaven - that have been predetermined to final and summarizing deal by the subtitle "Cimrman's dramatic testament." The study tries to answer a basic question: "What and why do we laugh with Jára Cimrman at?" At what? Almost at all. Why? Because it is funny. The comic is in case of the Cimrmans created by many aspects which are analysed in this study step by step. There is no one answer. The brand Smoljak & Svěrák has created admirable ficticious world under the shield of mystification and face of Czech genius Jára Cimrman. They touch the theme of Czech national feeling, in a witty way they remember us and sometimes they criticise kindly our Czech stereotypes by using all possible comical levels. The authors have filled in a certain way a gap in the Czech culture and literature by the fact that they have added another giant into not too...
