Hrůzová, Lenka ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Miessler, Jan (referee)
This work examines the thematic composition and functioning of the Czech Playboy edition, which has been published in the Czech Republic since 1991. Since it is a licensed periodical, in addition to the local mutation, the American title has been analysed, which has been undergoing significant changes in recent years, affecting the composition of the magazine content. For better context, a competitive periodical in the form of the monthly magazine Esquire was included into the research. This magazine is available on local market since the 1996 and with magazines like ForMen or ElleMan they are in fact the only competition in the men's magazine market. The aim is to find out how the content of the Czech Playboy mutation has changed over time, namely since its start-up in Czechoslovakia in 1991 till the year 2018. The method of quantitative content analysis was used for this purpose. Its results were further compared with the data obtained from the analysis of the American origin, as well as the domestic mutations of Esquire. The author drew theoretical information from book and digital sources. With the beginning of the Internet era a lot of the traditional media characteristics along with the classic media theories changed. The foundations of this diploma thesis are built on the question whether the traditional media and the new media are constructing different media images. The topic is further analyzed in the chapters about the construction of reality, media convergence, agenda-setting theory or social network. The analytical parts studied the main sources - television and social network - on the example of the Czech presidential election in 2018. After the data were gathered there were stated thirteen topic clusters and each unit of the collected data was categorized into those. There was also categorization on sources and the amount of representation of every candidate. After analyzing these data a comparison was made and after that a conclusion whether there are any differences between traditional and new media.
Political tabloid press on examples of titles "Na vlastní oči Praha 10" and "Na vlastní oči"
Komrska, Jiří ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The main goal of this diploma thesis was to find patterns on the pages of Na vlastní oči (With One's Own Eyes) title that define gutter press in its specific form of political tabloid. The analysis was concerned with the time period from 2016 to 2019 during which the said title was published in total of four waves each of which related to the relevant pre-election campaign. The Na vlastní oči title was initially published anonymously and only later Jan Čížek, publisher of the regional town-hall newspaper and a Freedom and Direct Democracy Party (SPD) candidate, claimed to be the publisher. SPD subsequently became the final sponsor of the newspaper. In the first wave of publishing activity, the authors of the title focused on a disparaging campaign against the then-candidate for the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Parliament and, in a broader context, against the whole opposition within the City Council of the Prague 10 City Ward. In its later publications, the newspaper dealt mostly with topics aimed at spreading fear of an unspecified danger associated with the refugee crisis and concerns about the unknown in the form of the Islamic Religion which was always associated with the threat of terrorism. In the context of its election programme, SPD also communicated groundless criticism...
Jaroslav Hašek - author of short stories, journalist and politics
Felenda, Šimon ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
The diploma thesis analyzes and compares three life and social roles of one of the most well-known writers of Czech literature, Jaroslav Hasek. Specifically, it is his role as a storyteller, a journalist and a politician. My work is focused on the analysis of the blend and differences between these roles pertaining to the development and context of both the time period and Hasek. The analysis is divided into several parts and it tries to view Hasek from different points of view. Specifically, it deals with the author's historical genesis, then with the narratological analysis of short stories and finally the content analysis associated with the reference to Jaroslav Hasek's language resources.
