Wohlmut's organ choir in St. Vitus, Wenceslaus and Adalbert cathedral in Prague

This thesis deals with the architectural appearance of the organ choir loft, located at the. St.Vitus,Wenceslaus and Adalbert cathedral at Prague Castle. It was realized between 1556- 1561 by Boniface Wohlmut's draft. The main target of this thesis is a detailed and formal analysis of the organ choir loft. Secondary target features approach of the organ choir functions and it's position in the context of the specific cathedral space. It also features inclusion of this organ choir to wider construction portfolio connected with the Boniface Wohlmut personality. The organ choir will be presented in overall art and historic context of examined period.
Architecture of Renaissance and Mannerist Fireplaces in Bohemia and Sebastiano Serlio

After the introductory chapters on Vitruvius and Sebastiano Serlio; which also discribe component books of Serlio's architectural treatise; the chapter devoted to the history and development of heating devices is included. This is followed by the main part of the diploma thesis "Architecture of Renaissance and Mannerist Fireplaces in Bohemia and Sebastiano Serlio" dealing with the analysis and comparison of fireplaces of Renaissance buildings in Bohemia. The first circle contains Prague buildings - the Royal Summer Palace at Prague Castle; however where fireplaces didn't preserve; and the Star Summer Palace in Prague Liboc which was designed by Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol. The second circle of buildings contains the Pilsen Town Hall, the Kaceřov Chateau and the Nelahozeves Chateau. These buildings are connected by locality (the Pilsen Town Hall, the Kaceřov Chateau) and by builder Florian Griespek (the Kaceřov Chateau, the Nelahozeves Chateau). The third circle pays attention to the South Bohemian fireplaces at the Jindřichův Hradec Chateau and at the Kratochvíle Chateau of Rosenbergs.
Renaissance Painting Decoration of Coffered Ceilings in Selected Castles in Bohemia

Diploma thesis "Renaissance Painting Decoration of Coffered Ceilings in Selected Castles in Bohemia" first briefly introduces the most important examples of aristocratic residences with painted coffered ceilings in Bohemia. Painted coffered ceilings in Bohemia primarily occurred in the main halls of castles and palaces in the second half of the 16th century. The main part of thesis deals with two noble residences with painted coffered ceilings. Deal with detailed ceiling paintings Knights' Hall in the castle Telč and ceiling paintings of four halls Častolovice chateau. Attention is focused on themes ceiling paintings, their description and comparison with graphic templates. To the present day we have original coffered ceiling Knight Hall Castle in Telč with subjects from classical mythology (Hercules deeds). The author of the iconographic program was probably Zacharias of Hradec (1527-1589), who was one of the most powerful aristocrats in the Kingdom of Bohemia, and had the opportunity during his trip to northern Italy in 1551 acquainted with Italian art. Zwettl altar in the context of its time

The topic of this thesis is Zwettl altar. It is a late Gothic carved altar from the years 1516 - 1525 and is the work of six unknown carvers. It is an important work that falls within the Danubian School, but also carries many elements of Italian Renaissance. This work will focus on art-historical analysis of the altar, will examine the influences that affected the form of the altar and period circumstances that could have on the overall formation of the altar a considerable influence. The result should be a total synthesis of the origin and development of the altar.
Divine and human or the devotional image in the 14th century focused on the evolution of the Pieta

This Bachelor Thesis refers to the genesis of new types of art pieces which were created to excite more emotional experience in the audience connected with the suffering of Jesus and Virgin Mary.Those devotional images like Mystic Crucifiction, Pieta or Maria Gravida began accruing at the turn of the13th and 14th century in the milieu of mendicant monasteries. This Thesis is especially focused on iconography of the Pieta. The mourning Virgin Mary, holding body of the dead Christ is actual theme throughout centuries, expressing the suffering from the lost of her only son. During the 14th century was the theme of Pieta divided into three types (vertical, horizontal and diagonal). Apart form the works of Wilhelm Pinder and Lech Kalinowsky this theme haven't been still compiled. The aim of this thesis is explanation of the terminology of devotional images and it's creation according to the present specialized literature. The main idea of the Thesis is brief clarification of the genesis of iconography of the Pieta (pointed to the three examples from the Czech Republic) and indication of it's function and potential background of creation in the medieval monastic spirituality.
Reception of Italian Renaissance forms of architecture in Bohemia

The Bachelor's thesis deals with reception of Italian Renaissance forms of architecture in Czech. The base of this thesis consist in studying architectural theories. The first part of this thesis is focused on theories by Roman architect Vitruvius and theories by Renaissance architect Leon Battista Alberti. In his work Alberti used the principles of Vitruvius but he updated it. This thesis also includes descriptions of Florentine buildings which follow the principles and were projected by Alberti. The major part of this thesis is dedicated to beginnings and acceptation the Italian Renaissance forms of architecture in Central Europe. Radka Junková: Subject of antique and christian virtues as part of stucco decoration of bohemian and moravian renaissance residences Abstract The dissertation is focusing on progression renaissance pargeting on manor houses in Bohemia and Moravia. These houses were usually owned by important internal players in politics. Specifically is following motives of antique and christian virtue in sense of humanist feeling this epoch. Between individual houses is possible to find connection caused by Italian inspiration patterns. Simultaneously is possible to observe typical transalpine individuality and realy strong Prague courtly environment. The effort of this text is create an opportunity how to compare pargeting topic in general context. That is why is not focus only on one specific building and characteristic wall decorations,but shows a chronologically development of changes perceptions and ideas of virtue pargeting technique. This all the labour presents on the background of characteristics individual customers. The Picture Gallery at the Castle in Rychnov nad Kněžnou

The subject undertaken in my dissertation work is the gallery painting collection from the aristocratic family 'Kolowrat', which is located within the family's palace in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. The Kolowrats established their gallery in the 16th century, the foundation of which was made to contain family member portraits. During this time portrait paintings comprised the main element and went on to create the portrait collection. The collection contains the oldest Bohemian aristocratic portraits from the Renaissance with portraits influenced by artists from the court of Emperor Rudolf II. It includes portraits from important artists as Karel Škréta, David Schultz or Philip Ch. Bentum and more. The portraits of family members document the history of the Kolowrat clan through the ages. At first this dissertation describes the history of the gallery and goes on to present select portraits from the beginning of the gallery until the 18th century. The Renaissance Reconstruction of church of the Saints Peter and Paul in Kralovice

The Renaissance Reconstruction of church of the Saints Peter and Paul in Kralovice Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with the renaissance reconstruction of church of the Saints Peter and Paul in Kralovice. The original gothic church was rebuilt in the 1580's by Florian Gryspek of Griesbach who was the secretary of the Royal Chamber of Bohemia. Although the disposition of the original gothic church was largely preserved, there was the extensive reconstruction which had several phases. An Architect of the reconstruction is still unknown. Many researchers assume that he was an artist from Prague court circle. Florian Gryspek was in contact with these artists due to his high position. With regard to several phases of the renaissance reconstruction there is possibility that more architects worked here. The thesis is primarily focused on the architecture of the church. It tries to summarize the previous research and include the church into the context of Czech sacral architecture and it pays attention to the other buildings of Florian Gryspek. Granovský Palace in Ungelt

Granovský Palace in Ungelt Abstract This Bachelor's thesis deals with the Renaissance palace, which Jakub Granovský Jr. from Granov let to build in the area of Týn merchant's courtyard in the Old Town of Prague after 1558. The palace complex consisted of today's houses number 639, number 640 and partially intervened in the house number 1049. Existing literature refers to Granovský Palace as a milestone and the beginning of a new period within Renaissance architecture in the Old Town of Prague. There is also discussed a participation of Prague courtly circle. This thesis follows not only the Renaissance reconstruction of the palace, but also the history and development of the merchant's courtyard. It examines the historical context as well as the figure of the householder and the issue of participation of courtly circle on the construction and decoration of the palace. It focuses on the most outstanding artistic elements, such as rusticated portals and a courtyard loggia covered with chiaroscuro paintings attributed to Francesco Terzio.
