Approaches by the government and non-profit sector to provide education to the Roma in eastern Slovakia

The subject of this thesis is to describe the approach of the state and the non-profit sector to education of Romani children in Eastern Slovakia. The theoretical part is focused on the approach of state, from pre-school through elementary school. The second chapter is devoted to the concept of social disadvantages and definitions of children coming from this type of environment. It clarifies known concepts such as zero class, preparatory class, teacher assistant and a full-day educational system, related to primary education and pupils from socially disadvantaged environment. The practical part is specifically dedicated to a single non-profit organization working in eastern Slovakia, ETP Slovakia - Center for Sustainable Development, with a description of the organization and their projects. Qualitative research was conducted using semi-structured interviews. The aim of this thesis is to describe the activities of five staff members of the NGO ETP Slovakia, their preferred styles of work with children and to find out if they themselves see the benefits of non-profit organizations within the village Velka Ida. Evaluation of two diagnostic tools used to diagnose school readiness

The thesis is devoted to the issue of school readiness and its diagnosis. The aim was to compare the two tests used for the testing of school readiness and to assess whether the comparatively evaluate some aspects of school readiness. In the first chapter of the theoretical part the area of development of preschool children in describe. The second chapter is devoted to major changes in the legislation of our education. The next two chapters (third and fourth) are on school readiness, enrollment in elementary and diagnostics of school maturity. The last, fifth chapter of the theoretical part, deals with immaturity and unpreparedness for entry into school. In the practical part I focused on in-house testing and evaluation of tests used. For testing, I chose two tests used to evaluate school maturity. The results of the two tests I tried using statistical methods to determine whether these tests evaluate comparatively. Use of psychotherapeutic techniques for changing the attitudes and the relationship of day care centre staff to clients with severe multiple disabilities

This thesis deals with the subjectively perceived problematical relationship between the employees of a day care centre (who are either professional caregivers or teachers) and clients or pupils with severe multiple disabilities. Examining this relationship and other selected problematical situations took place as part of short-term group work project using psychotherapeutic techniques. The group work facilitated a change in the relationship of the day care centre's employees with the clients. The research was conducted with a small group of probands from the Zahrada Integration Centre and from the Zahrádka Elementary School in Prague 3. The following professional methods have been used in the preparation of this thesis: an analysis of the relevant scientific literature, group work with a small group of probands using some elements of psychotherapy, a questionnaire survey, an analysis of records concerning the progression of problematical situations and data analysis of case studies. The findings of this thesis are that group sessions comprising elements of psychotherapy represented a supportive factor in regard to the perception of the problematical relationships of individual probands with their clients. Working with a family in the process of addiction treatment within therapeutic community

Use of mind-altering substances may result in an array of adverse, especially health and social, consequences for drug users as well as for their close persons. Help to solve mentioned problems provide various types of drug services. The vast majority of drug services in past did not take into account the fact that relatives might suffer due to drug use of their family member too and thus they also might need specific professional help. The aim of this work is to capture and describe the process of therapy with regard to the perception and experience of the close persons of clients of therapeutic community. In order to adequately understand the situations, we must first determine what elements constitute them. The work is based on a qualitative approach and research group consists of close persons of clients of the therapeutic community WHITE LIGHT I. The results show that it is possible, based on the analysis of data, to define each stage of the therapeutic process from the perspective of family members and name them according to chronology and important characteristic. The inclusion of persons close to drug users into treatment process contributes significantly to improvement of their lives and relationships quality. Development of communication abilities in premature infants

The presented thesis deals with the topic of development of communication abilities in preterm infants from the perspective of special education. The thesis is for clarity divided into several parts. In the first part of the text the issue of incidence of premature births in the Czech Republic is discussed, following subsections are devoted to the definition and distribution of characteristics bonding with immaturity of child and approach selected health problems associated with postpartum adaptation and subsequent psychomotor development of child. The following chapter which analyzes the system of care for premature newborns in the Czech Republic focuses on two forms of care, acute care and followed-up. Next part has been devoted to issue of premature infants from logopedical perspective and describes the physiological process of development of communication abilities of child and based on current knowledge, especially foreign research, analyzes the peculiarities of speech development of preterm infants. The last and key part of the work, based on case studies, analyzes the specifics of development of communication abilities of four originally extremely and very preterm children of multiple pregnancies in the background of the their overall psychomotor development. Use of myofunctional therapy in people with communication disability

The topic of this thesis is discussion of usage of myofunctional therapy on persons with communicative disorders. The main goal is to map the extent and possibilities of this therapy in speech therapy practice. The theoretical part deals with physiology and patophysiology of breathing, sucking, swallowing and the orofacial system. Further, in connection with myofunctional therapy it discusses its historical development, methodical approaches, utilities, therapeutical benefits and possibilities of education on this field. The empirical part contains a quantitative investigation, which analyses the extent and usage possibilities of this therapy by speech-language pathologists in the Czech Republic. Based on the data obtained by a questionnaire distributed to speech-language pathologists it can be stated, that about 20 % of the respondents do not use the myofunctional therapy in practice, while those (with one exception) never took part on an expert training. The offer of the trainings is rated as insufficient. The myofunctional therapy can be used on persons with orofacial disorders regardless of age or communicative disorder.
