The Bavarian policy towards german refugees and transferred persons in the 40's and 50's
Jílková, Michala ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Konrád, Ota (referee)
This bachelor thesis is about Bavarian politics and German refugees and expellees in the 40th and 50th years of the 20th century. I focus on a research question whether the Federal Republic of Bavaria considering high rate of immigration took some kind of special legislative measures to solve the newly-emerged problems of integration of newcomers, expelled and driven out Germans, and if so, what were these measures like? The Provincial Government of Bavaria was in a critical post-war situation confronted with expelled and driven out Germans from the East. From the beginning this problem was considered temporary. The Government believed the transferred Germans could return back to their homeland. Only necessary social and economic measures of integration were taken. These should provide the transferred Germans with basic things and survival. In the 50th years it was for sure that these would not return. Many of them were employed in Bavarian political sphere that time. They turned from a handicapped, suffering group of expelled people into self-confident citizens taking part in political life. The concept of just social and economic integration had become insufficient. The prevention of radicalization of transferred Germans turned into ensuring cultural identities for newcomers. In case of the...
The German minority and the Prague Spring 1968
Kokošková, Petra ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee)
The proposed thesis The German Minority and Prague Spring 1968 focuses on changes in the life of the German population in the territory of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. The thesis deals with an influence of reviving process of the Prague Spring on the progress of status of the German minority in the Czechoslovakia, which was marginalized by that time. The author presented a detailed analysis of those events of year 1968, which related to the national minorities policy and led to reception of the constitutional law Nr. 144/1968 Sb., about the status of the national groups in the state. The law acknowledges, for the first time in the post-war history, the same rights for the German minority such as for the other national minorities living in the territory of the Czechoslovakia. The author studies activation of the members of the German minority for the purpose of formation of the cultural association. That was enabled just on the ground of the aforesaid constitutional law. The cultural association was founded and incorporated, among the other social organisations, into the National Front in spring 1969. On the account of an invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops in August 1968 and its consequences, such as background checks and personal changes in Kulturní...
Science of Science in Poland and Czechoslovakia 1962-1989
Kůželová, Michaela ; Vykoukal, Jiří (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee) ; Franc, Martin (referee)
This dissertation deals with the Czechoslovak and Polish community of "scientists of science" (mainly historians, philosophers, and methodologists of science) from 1962 to 1989. It focuses not only on the inner evolution of this community (scientists, their works, scientific institutions etc.), but it also examines how was this community formed by the tradition of scientific thought on the one hand, and by the contemporary political and ideological context (Soviet influences, Marxism-Leninism, monopoly of the communist party) on the other. It focuses also on the ability of the scientific community to accept or reflect influences from the Western Europe or United States - which means from the so-called "capitalist countries". Two spheres are analysed to clarify dispositions of Polish and Czechoslovak "scientists of science" to foreign transfers: first, scientists' possibilities to travel to Western countries (research stays, participations at congresses etc.), and second, accessibility to foreign (mainly Western) scientific literature. Functioning of Western concepts in the community of Polish and Czechoslovak "scientists of science" is illustrated by an example of the reception of Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions from 1962. This dissertation shows that the role of scientific...

Czech-Liechtenstein relations and their development after 2000
Doležal, Tomáš ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Handl, Vladimír (referee)
The master thesis concentrates on studying the relations between the Czech Republic and Liechtenstein from 2000 until 2015. The Czech Republic and the monarchy share a long common history, reaching all the way to the Middle Ages. The Liechtensteins constituted autonomous political power in the Czech lands for centuries and this power played a significant role not only on the regional but also on the continental level. Historical development in Czech territory in 20th century interrupted this continuous symbiosis, the Liechtensteins lost all their Czech property in a short period of time and decided to leave Czech land permanently. Due to the confiscation of property by the Czech state, long-lasting litigations between the two states were created. Even the establishment of the democratic Czech Republic did not bring any change. It was only in 2009 when diplomatic communication was re-established, but ownership issues of different properties remain a challenging issue of bilateral relations. The opening part of the thesis summarizes the historical development in 20th century. The second part analyses property disputes between the Czech Republic and Liechtenstein from the historical perspective. The third part concentrates on contemporary political and economic system of Liechtenstein. Specific...

The position of the governments of Gerhard Schröder on Turkey's accession to the European Union
Volfová, Barbora ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee)
The following thesis deals with the pro-Turkish policy of red-green coalition in Germany during 1998-2005, which represented a turning point in German Turkish policy, because it did not follow the anti-Turkish policy of Helmut Kohl. Also today it represents an unique policy - nor the current Chancellor Angela Merkel initially followed it, whose image of Europe is incompatible with the membership of Turkey in the European Union. Based on an analysis of the most important debates held in the Bundestag under the red- green coalition government, where was discussed the Turkish question, the thesis tries to answer the question why the government of Gerhard Schroeder/Joseph Fischer supported Turkey's accession to the EU. It concludes that in the speech acts of individual government officials and MPs of the governing parties intermingled both strategic arguments and arguments corresponding with the classic postwar milieu shaping strategy that aims to influence the milieu beyond the borders of the national state. Strategic arguments gained in importance due to three international events that shook the world during the governments of Schroeder/Fischer and which tightened the active Turkish policy. It was the conflict in Kosovo, September 11, 2001 and the war in Iraq. However, these international events only...

Rázek, Milan ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is an attempt to analyze and objectively assess the attitudes of the Catholic Church led by Pope Pius XII to the question of the Holocaust and Nazism during World War II. To achieve the stated objective, a compilation of historical description will be used as the main method, while the assessment will be based on recognition, characterization and interpretation of the most distinctive differences in the perception of the role of Pius XII during World War II, particularly in relation to Nazism and the Holocaust. Another reason for choosing this topic is an effort to interpret major themes which greatly influenced the development of policies of the Holy See during World War II. In the first chapter there are some important concepts characterized and also the base character of Vatican as a political entity. The second chapter focuses on the person of Pius XII. and his role in the signing of the Reich Concordat. The third chapter monitors the development of the Vatican policy shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War until its end. The following chapter focuses on the reasons that could have had an impact on the attitude of the Holy See in relation to Nazism and the Holocaust. At the end, the author answers the questions set out in the introductory part of the...
