Czech Periodical Press in Region off Cheb in Years 1945
Dlouhá, Petra ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Krejcar, Robert (referee)
The main aim of my diploma thesis is to capture the development of the periodic press in Cheb after the end of the Second World War. It is a period which brought extensive demographic and socio-economic changes to Czechoslovakia and especially the border regions. That is why this topic must be set in a wider context. At the beginning, I describe the history of the Cheb region, which, from its earliest history, had a distinct position within our country. I also researched the general issue of Czech-German relations after the foundation of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. A chapter in the thesis deals specifically with what happened during the Second World War in Cheb. The main emphasis is however on the first months in the Cheb region after the war. The reason for this is that it was a period of essential reversal in Cheb. Everything that used to be German was now to become Czech. It was essential for the newcomers to receive information in their mother tongue. The core of the thesis is the development of the Czech regional press in the Cheb region. In the year 1945 there only was a single journal published in Cheb - Chebsko. My thesis will present this journal, which first came out shortly after the end of the Second World War. I will also make a quantitative analysis of the first publishing...

Pivodová, Eva ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Wolák, Radim (referee)
Puppeteer, World's Oldest Periodical Focused on Puppetry (1912-2009) Diploma Thesis Eva Pivodová Abstract This thesis focuses on the history of the magazine Czech Puppeteer (Český loutkář), or Puppeteer (Loutkář), the world's oldest continuously published periodical of its kind. The first 3 chapters describe in detail the magazine's transformations between 1912- 1950, its further existence is described more briefly in the final chapter. The resource material consisting primarily of the published issues of the magazine served as the basis for historical analysis. The text also puts the history of the magazine into context with the development of puppetry and it includes references to relevant theatrical literature. The magazine was founded by Jindřich Veselý in 1912 in Prague. In the first period of its existence (1912-1913), it helped to integrate the Czech puppetry community and it emphasized the values of genuine Czech puppet theatre. After 1917, Puppeteer (Loutkář) continued to publish both theoretical and practical articles. In 1940, it was replaced by Puppet Theatre (Loutková scéna). But Puppet Theatre was soon cancelled as well and so the only periodical focused on puppetry published during war was a simple cyclostyled bulletin. After the war, the renewed Puppet Theatre had to adapt to the new...

Du Toit, Petra ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Morée, Pieter (referee)
This thesis is concerned with the issue of the publication of church newspapers and magazines and the regulation thereof by state institutions and organs of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the period 1956-1989. The first chapter gives a general overview of the policy of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the field of mass media and is divided into three parts: after the Second World War, after the communist putsch in February 1948 and after the invasion by armies of the Soviet Block in August 1968. To better understand the situation of the church in that period of time it was necessary to include a chapter that outlines the general context of the way in which the Communist Party perceived and understood the church and religion as such, and therefore the second chapter offers a short introduction to the 'church policy' of the Communist Party. The third chapter monitors general facts related to the publishing business of the time, with special reference to the church newspaper and its control and restriction by the Central Church Publisher and Secretariat for Church Affairs of the Ministry of Culture. The fourth and main part of this study focuses on the newspaper and magazines of the Czech Brethren Church, with each subsection containing a detailed description of the publishing...

Editor in chief responsible for Vesnické noviny had to cooperate with various institutions. Okresní národní výbor was composed of 24 members, that had executive power over the in their hands. The objective of the present thesis entitled The creation of the Soviet union's ideal and its media image in the Czechoslovak media in 1950's is to show the effort of the major daily newspaper of that time - i.e. Rudé právo - to describe Soviet science. Creating a positive image of the Soviet Union through the presentation of scientific breakthroughs represents a significant way of building the ideal image of the USSR. More than fifty years later, it may be well analyzed which scientific fields were glorified by right, wherein the Soviet Union really excelled; and the rest, glorified only for propagandistic purposes. The theoretical part of this paper deals with the political situation in the USSR at the end of 40's and in the 50's as well as with the overall scientific environment during the same period. It characterizes the position of Rudé právo and describes the method of investigation. The paper however centers on the media analysis of ten separate time periods.
