Selected materials for teaching chemistry in lower grades at the eight-year grammar school
Wilhelm, Lukáš ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Janoušková, Svatava (referee)
The incoherence of the Czech school system, which is based on the existence of three different types of grammar schools, results in a time inconsistency in the teaching of some subjects. Today, pupils at eight-year grammar schools encounter the subject of chemistry for the first time one to two years earlier than pupils at primary schools. However, the same textbook may be presented to both groups, but it may be inappropriate for younger pupils as it would not reflect the fact that they are not cognitively advanced enough. How do eight-year grammar schools themselves approach this disparity? Does the approach to teaching chemistry to younger pupils differ in foreign countries in any way? These are the questions this thesis seeks to answer. To find the answers, an analysis of Czech and selected foreign curriculum documents was used. The most important results of this thesis include the fact that eight-year grammar schools in the Czech Republic most often include a total of seven teaching units during the first year of chemistry teaching, of which the most abstract concepts are included in the teaching unit Particle composition of substances. In foreign countries, the teaching of chemistry to younger pupils does not go as in-depth as in our eight-year grammar schools, but comparable topics are...
Media education in chemistry teaching
Matějčková, Veronika ; Teplý, Pavel (advisor) ; Janoušková, Svatava (referee)
This thesis deals with the integration of media education into chemistry teaching. The thesis is divided in two parts. The first part develops media education as a tool to obtain media literacy, didactics approach in teaching of media education and methods used in those teachings. Undisputable part of the first part of this thesis is the position of media education in curricular documents in the Czech Republic and investigation of a real state of media education teachings at Czech primary and secondary schools. The results of the investigation showed that the skill of media literacy of students in the Czech Republic is rather below average. The investigation also showed that the most common form of implementation of media education teaching is integration into other educational areas. Second part of the thesis contains a questionnaire among teachers of science subjects focused on integration of media education and educational materials which were prepared after evaluation of first part of the thesis, and which are a practical demonstration of a relationship between media education and chemistry subject. The created teaching materials contain theoretical starting points for the given topic of media education, methodological instructions for teachers and worksheets, teaching presentations or other...
Practical science teaching during distance eduaction - analysis of interviews with chemistry teachers
Konfrštová, Adéla ; Stratilová Urválková, Eva (advisor) ; Janoušková, Svatava (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the state of teaching practical chemistry activities in schools during distance learning in time of the SARS-COV-2 virus pandemic. The research, based on a questionnaire from the project HomeLab, was extended by a qualitative analysis of interviews with nine chemistry teachers. The research questions were looking for answers whether chemistry teachers implemented chemical experiments into their lessons during distance learning, what was their motivation or barriers to implement practical chemistry education. The thematic analysis of the interviews revealed that all nine teachers but one implemented chemistry activities, mostly including experiments with household tools, resources or food. The motivation was most often the fact that experiments belong to chemistry and without them the teaching of chemistry would not be so attractive. On the contrary, the interviews revealed the need for teachers to share their teaching experiences, but also to know the databases that offer didactic materials that can be used for practical teaching of natural sciences. Keywords chemistry experiments, distance education, interviews, qualitative analysis, thematic analysis
Microplastics in General Secondary Chemistry Education
Marešová, Eva ; Bílek, Martin (advisor) ; Janoušková, Svatava (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on microplastics as a frequently discussed topic in the context of environmental hazards, which despite its topicality and popularity is not included in the teaching of Chemistry as a general educational subject. The theoretical part focuses on the size classification, origin, composition, appearance, sources, and the occurrence of microplastics, including their impact on the environment. The first practical part consists of an analysis of the Framework Educational Programme for Elementary education, the Framework Education Programme for Grammar Schools, and selected Schools Educational Programmes with a main focus on microplastics. The second practical part is devoted to the design of learning activities through which pupils are able to actively learn about the topic of microplastics in the context of teaching Chemistry as a general education subject. This active form of familiarisation with the topic should aim at increasing the pupils' interest in learning about this topic and contribute to the awareness of the possible risks involved at the same time. KEYWORDS Microplastics, general chemistry at lower secondary and grammar schools, environmental education
Formative assessment in the chemistry education
Babinčáková, Mária ; Ganajová, Mária (advisor) ; Janoušková, Svatava (referee) ; Szarka, Katarína (referee)
In Slovakia, no systemic steps have yet been taken regarding the implementation of formative assessment in teaching. Promoting formative assessment in practice is not easy and its implementation requires a system support, such as educational materials, digital collections of formative assessment tools, methodological materials, onsite and online teacher education, etc. In the presented thesis, we dealt with many of these areas - we created and optimized a collection of formative assessment tools for students and teachers for thematic units Mixtures, Water and Air for K7. Similarly, we trained teachers to implement formative assessment tools into their lessons. The effectiveness of this teaching was observed in terms of developing conceptual understanding. Moreover, verifying students' and teachers' attitudes towards formative assessment was studied. The analysis of results showed that formative assessment provides feedback to all participants. Formative assessment helps to improve students' outcomes, even at higher- order cognitive skills area. At the same time, it provides the teacher with feedback for the adaptation of the next lesson, also considering the student's opinion. Through the implementation of formative assessment in teaching, teachers perceive the importance of students'...
