Jana Hovorková Derivatives of Thiazole as Potential Drugs II. Diploma Thesis, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, 2010 Abstract Within this diploma thesis, preexisting (E)-2-(1-pyrazin-2-yl- ethylidene)hydrazonocarbothioamides and new (E)-2-[1-(5-benzylpyrazin-2-yl)- ethylidene]hydrazonocarbothioamide were prepared. Reaction of substituted acetylpyrazines with thiosemicarbazide proceeded according the procedure reported previously. Antimicrobial activity of prepared substances was tested against eight bacteria by the microdilution broth method with utilization bacitracin and neomycin as positive controls. Promising inhibition effect against Staphylococcus epidermidis was found with (E)-2-[1-(5-terc-butylpyrazin-2-yl)ethylidene]- hydrazonocarbothioamide. Next, reaction of the prepared thiosemicarbazones with maleinanhydrid was studied. In this reaction no identifiable compounds were prepared. The final experiments were aimed at preparing derivatives of 4-phenyl-2-[2- (1-pyrazin-2-yl)ethylidene]hydrazinylthiazole by the reaction of thiosemicarbazones with phenacylbromide. It was found that the cyclization wasn't completed, only addition of phenacylbromide on sulfur of thiosemicarbazone proceeded. Through this reaction...
Surrogate motherhood in European countries
Hovorková, Jana ; Elischer, David (referee)
Surrogacy is a contemporary and highly controversial social issue. It is closely linked to assisted reproduction, bioethics and the status rights of the individual. It is generally considered an alternative, extreme way to treat infertility, but it raises a number of moral, ethical and legal issues. Solutions are approached by individual states on individual bases, in the context of cultural, historical and religious values and traditions professed by their societies. This work deals with the comparison of individual national views on surrogacy, which are reflected in the legislation. It compares the German, French and Spanish regulations, as a representative sample of restrictive approaches and the British and Ukrainian regulations, which in turn reflect the supportive attitude toward surrogate motherhood. The dynamic development experienced by the legislation on surrogacy in Portugal is highly interesting. The ruling of the Portuguese Constitutional Court provides valuable insight into the current thinking of the democratic rule of law on surrogacy and its adjustment to meet the standard of human rights protection. The work also describes the dangers posed by cross-border surrogacy using relevant case law, especially with regard to the protection of the best interests of the surrogate child. It...

Inspiration from Collins's methodical approach in the research of the headmaster's leadership
Hovorková, Jana ; Kitzberger, Jindřich (advisor) ; Šafránková, Jana Marie (referee)
6 ABSTRACT The diploma thesis examines the leadership of the principals from three primary schools. The thesis is an inspirational attempt to transfer the concept of the business sphere to a specific segment of management education. Jim Collins's five-year study, Good to Great (Collins 2001), unveiled crucial factors in transforming a business from "good to great". This study is the inspiration for adapting the 5th Level Leader Concept to the environment of three selected schools, focusing on their principals who managed to get their "schools" out of mediocrity. The theoretical part is divided into three basic chapters, which are dedicated to leadership, school management specifics, and to Collins's study with the focus on the 5th level leader concept. The summary of the findings from the reference literature in the theoretical part is the basis for the practical part, which examines the principals of three schools in six attributes according to Collins's study. The aim of this thesis is to assess whether the personalities of the selected principals correspond to the 5th level leader concept, which are specific, characteristic, inborn characteristics and abilities that are independent of practice, education, training, and specific knowledge. Level 5 leaders are exceptional leaders who are endowed with...
Natural compounds and their biological activity VII. Screening of selected alkaloidal plant species for cholinesterase aktivity.

60 ABSTRACT Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmaceutical Botany and Ecology Candidate Mgr. Jana Hovorková Consultant Prof. RNDr. Lubomír Opletal, CSc. Title of Thesis Natural compounds and their biological activity VII. Screening of selected alkaloidal plant species for cholinesterase aktivity. Within the systematic studies of plants producing metabolites that inhibit human erythrocytal AChE and serum BuChE, summary ethanolic extracts (S) and alkaloidal ethyl acetate extracts (B) of some plant species from the families Rutaceae (Dictamnus albus, root; Dictamnus dasycarpus, root bark; Evodia rutaecarpa, fruit; Phellodendron chinense, bark; Zanthoxylum bungeanum, pericarp; Zanhtoxylum nitidum, wood) and Nelumbonaceae (Nelumbo nucifera, embrya, seeds, leaves, stamen) were studied using Ellman's method. Among extracts of S-type, the highest inhibitory activity (μg/ml) was found in Evodia rutaecarpa (AChE 90.2 ± 11.1; BuChE 5.2 ± 0.6) and Phellodendron chinense (AChE 2.2 ± 0.2; BuChE 59.7 ± 6.4). In alkaloidal extracts of B-type, the enzymes were inhibited most by the compounds of Evodia rutaecarpa (AChE 9.8 ± 0.9; BuChE 9.7 ± 0.9) and of some morphological parts of Nelumbo nucifera: germs (AChE 45.9 ± 4.1; BuChE 11.6 ± 1.1) and leaves (AChE 59.2 ± 6.0; BuChE...
