First Baron War and Louis VIII as the Kinf of England (1215-1217). A view of sources.
Malý, Jan ; Drška, Václav (advisor) ; Suchánek, Drahomír (referee)
In 1215, king of England John the Lackland was forced to seal a document known as Magna Carta. It was a simple legal procedure. Nevertheless it was the beginning of conflict between royal power and english nobility, commonly known as first baron's war. It lasted from 1215 to 1217 and it culminated by the invasion of french crown prince Louis to England when english nobility offered him the crown. After the death of king John in autumn 1216, the original revolt, inspired mostly by personal hate against the ruler changed into the effort of prince Louis to achieve the title of English king. Most of original memebers of the oposition quickly switched sides and joined John's little son Henry (king Henry III) and Louis then had only the support of few leaders of rebelion. After a series of defeats in the first half of 1217, capetian prince was forced to abandon his goals and to retreat from the Isles. This work also follows the view of selected contemporary narrative sources, mainly to the activity of french prince in England and his attitude to the uprising.

Vanča, Matouš ; Drška, Václav (advisor) ; Suchánek, Drahomír (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare three cases of double elections, which happened in the Holy Roman Empire in the High Middle Ages. The elections in question are: the 1198 election (when Philip, the Duke of Swabia, and Otto of Brunswick were elected), the election of 1257 (when Richard of Cornwall and Alfons X, the King of Castile, were elected) and the 1314 election (when Louis IV, the Duke of Upper Bavaria, and Frederick the Handsome, the Duke of Austria, were elected). Each of these elections is represented by a case study, which analyses its course, its political background, its immediate causes and other circumstances, and which also describes its specific consequences. At the end of this thesis, there is a comparative study, which points out similarities and differences between these three cases and thus traces a fundamental advancement of the Holy Roman Empire's constitutional arrangement and its monarchs election (primarily, the progress from the elections by a wide group of the Princes of the Empire to the elections by a small ensamble of seven electors); such progress subsequently led to the issue of the Golden Bull of Charles IV. This thesis uses period sources, whether it is diplomatic documents directly connected with royal elections or works of chroniclers and annalists,...

Dienstbier, Jan ; Drška, Václav (advisor) ; Picková, Dana (referee)
The thesis deals with the personality and the oeuvre of Henry of Isernia (Henricus de Isernia) an Italian emigrant who came to Prague at the beginning of the seventies of 13th century. In the introductory chapters we summarize the literature dealing with the subject so far, introduce the ars dictaminis, a medieval theory of letter writing, and try to nd Henry's place in the evolution of the discipline. One of the main topic of the thesis is the question how ars dictaminis appeared in Czech lands and whether played any role on the court of Ottokar II. From this point we move our attention to the Henry's involvement in the ghibellin movement of the late 13th century. Finally, we examine the cultural aspects of selected pieces from the epistolary, namely the set of erotic dictaminas speaking about the palace of Venus. We argue that they have to be viewed as satyric a anticlerical pamphlets and we show their connection with other pieces of the epistolary.
