Very common topic about populism is the question if populism represents a corrective or a threat to liberal democracy. The procedure in this thesis is quite straightforward. First of all, the reader will learn about the phenomenon of populism, a part of its history and the reasons why is populism coined as a contested concept. After, there is a clarification of populism for the context of this thesis and a choice of the most useful method that will help us achieve the final goal. As a follow-up, the reader learns more general information about populism. The intent is to explain concepts and goals that are most associated with populism. Such cooperation usually lasts only during the pre-election campaign and it ends after the elections. These experts create campaign strategies and plans, train party leaders in communication, provide brand analyses, etc. The primary objective of this thesis is to analyse how the campaign of the Czech Pirate Party was conducted in 2017, whether they collaborated with external experts and what elements they had in their campaign.
The causes of terrorist radicalisation among Northern Irish Catholics
Parolek, Jan ; Aslan, Emil (advisor) ; Charvát, Jan (referee)
This work deals with the question of whether, in the case of terrorist radicalization of Northern Irish Catholics (being both national and a religious minority in the Northern Ireland and de facto also in the UK) during 'The Troubles', was ideology only a function of Catholics' socio-economic grievances, or a standalone, individually decisive factor. The thesis explores the motivations for terrorism as they are stated in personal testimonies, group surveys, or other sources. The theory of Radicalization Puzzle, viewing the radicalization as a complex non-linear combination of four variously strong categories of reasons (grievances, ideologies, networks and support structures) is used. After establishing the definitions of terrorism and minority status, exploring the Irish-British history and the validity of minority status of Northern Irish Catholics, the paper brings together the stated reasons for radicalisation and combines them in a "mental map." Several broad categories of reasons are identified and overlaid with the Puzzle categories. It is found that grievances were a big motivational factor for terrorism, but they were overwhelmingly of social kind, mostly sectarian or state violence. Economic grievances as a dominant radicalising factor were very rare. The Republican ideology has also been a...
Propaganda on Social Media: The Case of Geert Wilders
Záhorová, Kateřina ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Charvát, Jan (referee)
This thesis aims to explore the spread of populist propaganda on social media on the case of the Dutch politician Geert Wilders and Twitter. The research questions of this thesis focus primarily on the message that is being spread by Mr. Wilders and his followers, the way his followers react to this content and the attempt to securitize Islam through populist propaganda. The thesis uses the methodology of discursive thematic interpretation to analyze the narrative that is being spread. In order to collect data for this analysis, the analytical tool NodeXL Pro has been employed. This tool made it possible to not only collect data and identify the people interacting with a theme, but also visualize their position within the network. The thesis uses datasets collected by NodeXL for the discursive thematic interpretation of data. The analysis itself is divided into different sections, first analyzing the content shared by Geert Wilders and identifying the themes and reconstructing the narrative. Next, the analysis moves on to more specific subsections, such as important hashtags or examples of active users from Wilders' proximity. NodeXL was also helpful in modelling the networks and discovering the echo chambers formed around Geert Wilders.

Neugebauerová, Aneta ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Charvát, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the analysis of KDU-ČSL during the period from 2009 - 2013, when for the first time since its formation in 1919 this political party failed to obtain representation in the lower chamber of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. This representation was re-established in 2013, which is also a very unique phenomenon. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the development and changes within KDU-ČSL during this period using the official party documents and standardized interviews with selected members of KDU- ČSL. This information will allow me to come to a thought-out conclusion whether this period can be characterized as a crisis or not.

Součková, Karolína ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Hájek, Lukáš (referee)
The thesis deals with the election campaign in the elections to the National Assembly, namely the campaign of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. In this example, we can clearly see how strongly campaign can impress and what influence the voter's final decision has. After the World War II, the position of the Communist Party was determined by its attitude towards the Munich events in 1938 and its activities during the Second World War - the Communist Party was undeniably a significant part of the Czechoslovak resistance and by the post- war political system. Compared to the other parties allowed after the Second World War, it had the potential to become the main political force in the country. It was through this effective propaganda that it could use this position and lead the party to victory in the elections in 1946. The art of promoting communist ideology as an ideal choice for most Czechoslovak citizens is a key reason for the success of this party. The elections in 1946 were the first after World War II, and therefore a key to the country's further direction. The Communists were well aware of this importance, and it was reflected in their thorough preparation. The other parties were also aware of this importace of these elections, but their campaign was weak compared to the CPC. The CPC...
International activities of Youth workers
Štekl, Jakub ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Prokůpková, Vendula (referee)
The Workers' Youth (DM) is called a political youth organization united with the Workers' Party of Social Justice. It is opened for the Workers' Party supporters aged between 15 a 35. The members of (DM) can fulfill more easily due to lack of focus given to the activities of political youth organizations in the Czech Republic as they are often pushed away from politicking under the patronage of their home political parties. However, DM is regularly initiating riots, protests and marches in many czech cities. For DM, as an organization fully connected and patroned by the Workers' Party, is difficult to aggregate a sufficient number of supporters for their events, in order to maintain required attention. Due to limited resources of citizen willing to join - caused by so typical partition of the far-right parties - DM has to approach similar organizations abroad. After that, they actively support their new "friends" by participating on marches in foreign cities and vice versa. The main objective is to describe and analyse forms of cooperation between DM and similar foreign politcal youth organisations, especially in Europe. This thesis aims to show the forms and mechanisms and eventually assess the efficiency of this kind of cooperation based on several criteria such as changes in public opinion,...
