Terrorism from the social psychology perspective

This bachelor thesis deals with terrorism from the social psychology perspective. It defines terrorism, its goals and its classifications. This thesis describes personal and group variables, which influence the formation of terrorism. It elaborates on some psychological approaches to terrorism and terrorist personality in the context of motivation, vulnerability, trauma and abnormality. In the context of the terrorist personality, this thesis deals with moral disengagement and the psychological profile of a terrorist. It continues with a chapter about terrorist group structure and dynamics, for example social influences on its members. Another part of the thesis is an outline for a qualitative research project. Its aim is to explore variables, which repeatedly occur in the life of the terrorist and which may play a role in the decision making process before joining a terrorist group. Domestic violence against men

The main goal of thesis "Domestic violence against men" is to address this phenomenon and quantify its occurrence in the Czech Republic and other selected countries. The first part focuses on theoretical description of domestic violence against men and its detailed specification. Individual chapters describe the social context and known types of domestic violence such as physical, psychological, social, economic and sexual form. Predictors, specific groups of victims and consequences of domestic violence are then explained. This section also includes the possible ways of assistance. The second part is devoted to the theoretical research of this phenomenon in the Czech Republic and thus builds on the researches that were carried out a few years ago. Radvan Bahbouh, Ph.D. Abstract: The theses is dedicated to facial expressions of emotions, it begins with a brief introduction to the topic of emotions as one of the cognitive functions, there is a definition of the term, classification of emotions and their psychopathology, it briefly summarizes the various theories of emotions. The greater part of the theoretical section is devoted to basic emotions and their manifestation in the face, as well as the ability to recognize and imitate them. The theoretical part is closed by the topic of emotional intelligence as a unifying element that highlights the importance of this issue. Empirical part is primarily focused on two abilities related to facial expressions of emotions, specifically the recognition and the production of them, then links these capabilities with additional characteristics as the gender, the education and their self-estimation. The main finding of this theses is that there is a statistical significant relationship (ρ=0.35, α=0.05) between the emotion recognition and production. Profession requirements of crisis intervents working with crime victims

This master's thesis is dedicated to the topic of the demands of the position of crisis or trauma counsellors who work with victims of crime. The theoretical part describes the workload of crisis counsellors, espexially the thesis focuses on crisis intervention. The specifics of crisis intervention for victims of crime are also described. Thesis describes who is the victim of crime and what are the psychological effects of crime on the victim. Thesis also describes how to talk to victims of crime, what are the specifics of this intervention. Again the thesis focuses on the workload of crisis counsellors and the demands on this position. Furthemore, the thesis describes the characteristics of the position itself, it also focuses on the description of the workplace. In the next part, the thesis focuses on stress and its negative consequences, as a negative phenomenon that occurs in the work of counsellors. The social skills od crisis counsellors are also described, focusing on the characteristics of the crisis counsellor and on the key competencies. Psychological aspects of suggestibility in context of criminal investigation

The present thesis deals with the psychological aspects of interrogative suggestibility of witnesses, victims and offenders involved in criminal investigation. The first part of the work offers a theoretical and literary overview of important theoretical findings on suggestibility in the field of psychology which underly the teoretici model of interrogative suggestibility by Gudjonsson and Clark. Their model is introduced in relation to selected psychological characteristics with an emphasis on practical overlap in forensic psychology and criminal practice. The theoretical part is concluded with a detailed introduction into the Gudjonsson scales of suggestibility - GSS 1 and GSS 2. In the empirical part of the thesis, the author focuses on adaptation and validation of GSS 1 in the Czech environment. The outcome of this work are the psychometric characteristics of the Czech version of the GSS 1, including detailed instruction for administration and evaluation and statistical norms for the czech population. Currently Czech criminalist dispose of no suitable psychodiagnostic assessment method to evaluate the interrogative suggestibility. Emotional intelligence and approaches to its cognition and measurement

The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the development of the concept of emotional intelligence, the most important concepts dealing with this topic and the methods used for its recognition and measurement, which are associated with models. For better orientation in the topic, the concept of emotions and emotional intelligence applied in selected fields is also explained and defined. In the empirical part, the research is designed to create measurement methods of emotional intelligence, which utilizes the integrated model and combines the self-assessment questionnaires from more models with FACS and MSCEIT. Research should, on a large stratified sample, show, if the newly created method validly measures the level of emotional intelligence through parallel validation of the MSCEIT. Finally, it describes the possibilities of using the method and the actual outcome, expressed with the emotional quotient, in practice.

Home violence in family and its impact on child

This work deals with domestic violence, with a focus on children who grow up in such an environment and who witness the violence as its indirect victims. Attention will be paid to the impacts of this situation on their mental and physical health, family relationships and possible problems in their future life. Although the issue of children who witness violence at home is in the Czech environment taken into account, yet there is not an extensive paper on this particular topic. This work provides insight into the possible negative consequences of indirect victimization of children who have been identified in studies conducted abroad, and also proposes a methodological approach for possible further research in this area. Values in fairy tale movies

This thesis deals with values in fairy tale movies. Its aim is to explore the possibilities of tracking values in fairy tale movies, because fairy tales serve as an important source of values for a child in the process of socialization. The theoretical part presents basic concepts of values, approaches to film research from a psychological point of view and observes the importance of fairy tales for a child. These topics are connected by socialization of a child and the role of media in adopting of values. Original research consists of content analysis of selected sample of Czech and Czechoslovak fairy tale movies. Certain characteristics, on which we can think about the values expressed in selected movies, are described. The research results indicate a trend of decreasing amount of contained values in fairy tale movies over time. Qualitative analysis examines various tales and describes value characteristics of particular characters in selected movies. Diploma project represents a contribution to the psychology of media and embraces media research as an important part of the socialization process.

Gender and social cognition

The aim of this thesis was to present a comprehensive overview of current knowledge in the field of gender research and social cognition as well as to contribute with results of my own research. The biggest emphasis of the theoretical part lies on stereotypes and gender differences in personality characteristics, topics that are closely related to the research part of this paper. The empirical part answers the question whether information about the sex of a person has impact on how we assess this person's personality. After reading a short biography of a fictitious person, respondents described this person on 30 items of the Bem Sex Role Inventory (Bem, 1974). Results showed that respondents rated some characteristics differently for the male figure than the woman figure. Respondents of both sexes perceived the described man as significantly less Forceful and less Defending his own believes than the described woman. Although not always significantly, all 10 items satiating the BSRI masculinity score showed the same tendency to evaluate the figure of the man as less masculine than the figure of the woman. Part of the Discussion is dedicated to possible interpretations of these results. To obtain a deeper understanding, further research is required.

Selected personality characterics of violent crime perpetrator and their relation to the features of their offence

This diploma thesis is focused on the topic from the field of forensic psychology, mainly on the relationship between the personality of criminal offender and its reflection in the commission of crime. The theoretical part deals with the analysis of crime scene and crime scene investigation from the perspective of criminalistics with an overlap to other parts of forensic psychology. It also involves the typology of organized and disorganized offender and description of their personalities and behavior at the crime scene, specifically the issue of the characteristics of the modus operandi of murder in relation to the crime scene is classified. Attention is also paid to the forensic medical issues, injuries of the victim, from the point of view of forensic psychology. Last chapter of the theoretical part is focused on offender's personality, especially potential psychopathology. The empiric part is focused on searching for the relationships between personality variables of the offender and the way how the violent crime (murder) was committed. The research based on analysis of evidence and psychologists - experts testimony revealed particular connections and the data from the analyzed sample (of 40 crimes) refer in particular to the disorganized offender and behavior at the crime scene.
