Parenthood in lesbian families
Bláhová, Kateřina ; Lánský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Hyánková, Tereza (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with same-sex parenting among lesbian couples and its process. In the Czech Republic, it is possible for same-sex couples to enter into a registered partnership, although there is no option of starting families with children together under the same legal protection that heterosexual couples have. On the contrary, there is no legislation concerning this issue. That is why, although same-sex parenting is not explicitly banned, the state and society show no basic degree of acceptance of this alternative family form. That puts lesbian couples into unique circumstances, which they encounter on their way to and during parenthood. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the current situation of lesbian families in the Czech Republic using available literature and other sources. The thesis discusses the topics of the perception of homosexuality and same-sex parenting in the Czech society, the means of obtaining custody of a child and which ones are available, and what accompanying problems lesbian couples deal with on their way to parenthood. KEY WORDS LGBT, parenthood, lesbian couples, assisted reproduction, adoption

The research was conducted in children's home and in Klokanek, a facility for children requiring immediate help. The research sample consisted of eight children, four of them living in children's home, four of them living in Klokanek. The Relationship Between Media Ownership and News Content: A Quantitative Content Analysis of Year In Review Articles on 2019 and 2020 in Czech Media
Bláhová, Kateřina ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
This master's thesis explores the relationship between news content and owners of print and online media publishers in the Czech Republic. In the recent decade, the Czech media scene has been subject to a phenomenon called oligarchisation, a process when vast most majority of international owners were gradually replaced by local media moguls who also do business in other sectors than the media. The theoretical part of the thesis looks at the media oligarchisation in the Central and Eastern Europe and associated threats to the standards of journalism and democracy per se. The empirical part offers a quantitative content analysis of year in review articles on 2019 and 2020. These articles were published in print and online newspapers in the five main media houses. The coding unit for analysis is an evaluative mention, i.e. only one part of each article, dedicated to a single event, name or trend. The resulting data is tested by a simple analysis of relative frequency, and is also subjected to Pearson's chi-square test. This latter examines the relationships of categorical variables. Subsequently, a correspondence analysis focuses on the most significant associations between media houses and variables of the analysed articles. The results of the analyses indicated that three of the five examined...
Anticancer activity of semisynthetic prenylflavonoids in SW480 cell line
Blahová, Kateřina ; Boušová, Iva (advisor) ; Skarková, Veronika (referee)
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biochemical Sciences Candidate: Kateřina Blahová Supervisor: doc. PharmDr. Iva Boušová, Ph.D. Advisor: PharmDr. Martin Ambrož, Ph.D. Title of diploma thesis: Anticancer activity of semisynthetic prenylflavonoids in SW480 cell line Cancer belongs to the leading causes of mortality in developed countries. Colorectal carcinoma is the second most common cancer in the Czech Republic. Due to the development of resistance to classical chemotherapeutics, a search for new treatment strategies is ongoing. Prenylflavonoids belong to the natural compounds, which express anticancer effect, with xanthohumol and prenylated derivatives of naringenin belonging to the often-studied compounds. In this diploma thesis, anticancer properties of naringenin and its five semisynthetic prenylated derivates were tested in the cell line SW480, which is derived from colorectal carcinoma. Cell viability was monitored by the neutral red uptake test after 72 h treatment. For compounds with marked anticancer activity, the value of IC50 was determined and the effect of those compounds on the cell cycle was determined by flow cytometry. Substantial antiproliferative effect was found in four compounds (derivatives A, B, C, and E), values of IC50 for these...

The perception of pain versus pain management in the nursing profession
BLÁHOVÁ, Kateřina
The thesis deals with a definition of pain management issues, role of nurses working with patients in pain and, particularly, perception of pain of patients by nurses. The objective of the research was to identify and to study pain management procedures and, at the same time, to present how nurses perceive and experience the care of patients in pain. The empirical part of the thesis was performed through qualitative investigation using semi-structured interviews with nurses and patients. The respondents included 12 nurses and 8 patients. Based on results of the investigation covert participatory observation was selected as a complementary method. 6 nurses were observed while taking care of patients during a post-surgery period. Most frequently, nurses rate pain of patients by means of VAS (Visual Analogue Scale), however, they quite often assess the value subjectively. Nurses then record the found values regularly into the patient´s chart. Nurses would also appreciate more cooperation with physicians in order to increase efficiency of pain rating. Nurses are able to respond very well to patient´s verbalization of pain and they perceive differences in communication in such situations. The majority of nurses choose pro-active approach to pain alleviation. Nurses have the basic knowledge about non-pharmacological pain alleviation. Perception of pain by nurses is partly affected by length of their practice and by their own experience with pain. Nurses perceive negatively those situations when pain management interventions are not sufficiently effective, when they cannot contact physicians or when they cannot act based on their own discretion. In such situations nurses demonstrate signs of distress. This problem aggravates when nurses work with patients suffering from chronic pain. Nurses have only limited opportunities to improve their education in pain management and communication with patients in pain. Patients in pain mostly see the care provided by nurses positively but they have also provided numerous recommendations for the nurses. The empirical research has shown that nurses meet with patients in pain nearly every day while performing their nursing practice and that assessment of pain plays an important role in pain alleviation. In most cases the exposure of nurses to patients in pain causes their negative emotional experience, such as sadness or fear of complications. Their experience is affected by several factors. In general, the issues of pain perception by nurses in comparison with pain management techniques are often neglected. Nevertheless, from the viewpoint of mental stress, pain perception is an indisputable factor that deserves more detailed investigation.
