Liberal Nationalism of Yael Tamir:Theory and Polemics

This thesis deals with a theory of liberal nationalism, specifically its rendition presented by an Israeli author Yael Tamir. The set goal is to provide a detailed description of this specific interpretation using a theoretical framework provided by Michael Freeden. His definition of nationalism as a complementing rather than full-fledged ideology, as is the case with liberalism for example, provides an ideal framework for us to use when attempting to analyze the work of Tamir due to her trying to improve liberal theory by adding positive elements present in nationalism to it. After the full description of this form of liberal nationalism is made, the thesis then proceeds to introduce critics of said literary work, namely from critics such as Bernard Yack, Jamie Mayerfeld, or Liah Greenfeld, but also from the author herself, who had published a book dealing with similar topic 26 years after publishing the one this thesis focuses on. The goal is then to ascertain how the author's ideas changed during this time period. Dr. Pavel Barša, M.A., Ph.D. Abstract This master thesis provides a political-philosophical inquiry of the treatise called ,,Nationalism" (Націоналізм; 1926) written by the ideologist of Ukrainian nationalism Dmytro Dontsov (Дмитро Донцов; 1883-1973), in which he conceptualizes his own theory of active nationalism (чинний націоналізм). Dontsov argues that the idea of a nation consists in the national will (воля нації), and introduces the concept of the will primarily with regard to the concepts of three German philosophers - G. W. F. Hegel (substantieller Wille), Arthur Schopenhauer (Wille zum Leben), and Friedrich Nietzsche (Wille zur Macht). In this inquiry we shall address the question of how Dmytro Dontsov worked philosophically with different notions of will of two different wings of German thought, and what conclusions can be drawn from the theory of nationalism, which is based on the philosophical concept. Civil protests and political crisis in Lebanon in 2019-2022

Abstract The master thesis focuses on civil protests and the political crisis in Lebanon in 2019- 2022. The thesis opens up the subject of the civil public's relationship with the political class on the one hand, and domestic politics with the geopolitical situation of the Middle East on the other. The first question will be whether the civil protests are directed against the political class as such, or whether they are primarily targeted by Hezbollah and its allies. The second question will be how the protests relate to Hezbollah's cooperation with Syria and their conflict with Western powers. The empirical part of the work will draw on Internet sources interpreted with the help of secondary literature. Gender politics of Great Britain during the Premiership of David Cameron and Tony Blair

(in English): The aim of the theses is to map the development of feminization of two main British political parties, Conservative and Labour party from the point of view of descriptive participation, i.e. women representation in the party and parliamentary structure. Incorporation of women organization into the party structure including also integration of women's concerns into the party manifesto is another topic presented in the text. Attitude towards women advancement and women enfranchisement based on the overall perception of women identity are also included. The second part of the thesis focuses on specific premiership period of Tony Blair and David Cameron with regards to the aspect of feminization mentioned above and legislative steps and their influence on life and position of women in wider society. As a part of the theses, the comparison of both terms of office, from the point of view of their attitudes towards women's issues and strategies of promoting women political participation, are involved.

Georgian-Russian relations in the period 2004-2011 The struggle for the Georgian Independence

This master thesis deals with the mapping and analysis of Russian-Georgian relations in the period between 2004-2011. It focuses primarily on the development of relations after the onset of the new Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and after his transformation of Georgian Policy. The work is divided into chronological historical axis of events, from the history of Georgia and Georgian people, the author gets to the problems of August war in 2008. The main objective of this work is to find the causes of the war between Russia and Georgia, to map out its long-standing hostile relations and try to find its solutions. Starting point of this work is the assumption that Georgia and Russia have always been nations culturally very similar and therefore its friendly relations are essential for the regulation of conflicts on Georgia's borders. Russia as a powerful neighbor, has always had a superiority over Georgia. Therefore, in subsequent chapters is enhanced the need for intervention by international organizations such as NATO, OSCE, EU, etc. issues in Russian-Georgian conflict, in order to offset the forces of power on both sides. Antisemitism in France - current debate and its roots

v českém jazyce není součástí práce. Úryvek z Úvodu: V první části se budu věnovat nejprve různým definicím pojmu "antisemitismus" a úskalím, které s jeh o používáním souvisejí. Následně představím ve stručnosti historické proměny protižidovské nenávisti od křesťanského antíjudaismu po popírání holocaustu a závěrem se zamyslím nad fenoménem "nového antisemitismu". Druhá část je zaměřena na dějiny vzájemného "stýkání a potýkání" Židů a francouzské společnosti, především v posledních dvou staletích. Zmíním se zde o bohatém ideovém dědictví francouzského antisemitismu, o jeho nejrůznějších proudech, formách a významných teoreticích i prakticích. Ve třetí části se pokouším interpretovat některá data ilustrující růst protižidovských útoků a nálad ve Francii v posledních letech. Pozornost věnuji v této souvislosti zvláště prostředí škol, které je podle některých pramenů antisemitismem také zasaženo. V závěru této části se zaměřím na to, jak toto klima ovlivnilo emigraci francouzských Židů do Izraele. Čtvrtá část předkládané práce je sondou do debaty o antisemitismu probíhající již pět let mezi francouzskými intelektuály, která výrazně rezonuje ve veřejném prostoru. The development of the national security policy of the USA and source of its identity between 1989 and 2008

Uplynulých 20let je obdobím, během něhož se vystřídaly tři administrativy amerických prezidentů: George H. Walker Bush, William Jefferson Clinton a George Walker Bush jr. Přesněji řečeno, hovoříme zde o dvou republikánských administrativách a jedné demokratické administrativě. V této práci bych rád popsal vývoj zdroje národní zahraničně-politické identity Spojených států na pozadí Národní bezpečnostní strategie v období mezi roky 1989 a 2008. Rámcově zde tak hovoříme přibližně o dvou dekádách, ve vývoji zahraniční politiky USA především v její bezpečnostní podobě.

Antisemitism in the Czech Republic since 1989

Antisemitismus je závažný problém, který trápí řadu společností po celém světě. Pokud jej považujeme za chorobný, můžeme jej chápat jako chronickou (doutnající) sociální patologii s opakovanými vzplanutími, které mnohé lidi znovu a znovu překvapují, neboť se domnívali, že problém byl již vyřešen: "Kde se vzal? Proč se znovu objevil?" Podle britského profesora G. J. Pulzera je antisemitismus neoddělitelnou součástí evropského vědomí po dobu posledních dvou tisíciletí (Pulzer 1988 in EUMC 2003). Skutečně, při studiu dějin židů v Evropě je až překvapující, nakolik byla křesťanská Evropa od 4. století1 protižidovská. Antisemitismus se lišil ve své intenzitě od místa k místu a v různých dobách, byl však součástí státního náboženství, evropské křesťanské doktríny. V řadě zemí byli židé zbaveni práva držet půdu, obchodovat a zastávat některá další povolání, nesměli uzavírat sňatky s nežidy, nesměli mít otroky, průběžně na ně byly páchány pogromy, byl jim zabavován majetek, byli vyháněni. Za dobré časy se označovalo, když alespoň nebyly pogromy. Za nejlepší léta je tradičně označováno žití pod nadvládou muslimů ve Španělsku, neboť muslimská diskriminace byla oproti té křesťanské nesrovnatelně mírnější. The problems of process of democratization in the Arab world. A case study of Egypt

The aim of presented final thesis is to analyse problems of democratic process in Arab world, particularly in current Egypt. The introduction of this work is pointed to the historical context and begins with the state conception and democracy in the Arab region in general. The next chapters deal with the democratic waves and theory of transitions to democracy, especially the one of Dankwart Rustow and his need of national unity as a basic condition for successful democratization. Third chapter is devoted to Egypt during each presidential era with an emphasis on Hosni Mubarak. Next part describes the political situation in current Egypt and its party system, where we can find several specific features. Follows short part about human rights issue in Egyptian society and activity of civic society with increasing number of NGOs working in this area. Under the emergency state and with the antiterrorism policy abusing of human rights is the part of daily routine. Last part focuses on Islamism in Egypt and in some respect on activity of Muslim Brotherhood, which is the largest and most successful opposition group in current Egyptian politics.
