Balážová, Eva ; Jeřábek, Hynek (advisor) ; Holeček, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of my bachelor's work, "Does a virtual community exist? ", is to find out, using the analysis of characteristics of community in its traditional and modern form, if an internet discussion forum could be labeled "community". The paper consists of a detailed analysis of the characteristics of community on the basis of scientific literature. Then of the selection of those, which outlasted the transformation from traditional to modern communities. Finally, the conclusion of whether it is possible to accept or decline the statement, that a discussion forum is a community. This conclusion will resolute from a comparison of two "physical" and one "virtual" social group with the respect to the characteristics of the community resulting from the theoretical part of the paper. The reason for the effort to prove the community form of the discussion forum is the subsequent ability to work with it as with a community. This means, that we will be able to expect changes and development according to certain patterns, which are specific for a communities (e.g. that it will keep it's boundaries defining the group to a differentiation of "US" and "THEM", or that during it's whole duration it will grant inclusion and safety to all it's members).

Přibyl, Marek ; Tuček, Milan (advisor) ; Balážová, Eva (referee)
Dining together, feasting and other rituals associated with food form are significant part of the history of human society. However, nowadays we can see the decline of their importance. The aim of my thesis is to show how students perceive their dining at the dormitory and how much the dining is important for them. This thesis could be divided into three parts. The first one presents the social and cultural meaning of the joint dining in the human society and there are also presented research questions. The second part is explaining the research and the methods of data collection and analysis used in this work. The results of the research are then summarized in the last part. After moving to the dormitory the boarding of the students is very individual and they perceive it as something ordinary and therefore not so important. The change occurs in two possible ways. First, the individual change of personal values associated with meal (e.g. by confrontation with long-term impact of dining). Second, a meal shared with partner when food is again seen as important. During a visit home these changes in boarding habits can cause conflicts with parents. My thesis is also focused on borrowing and sharing equipment resulting in closer relationship between students.

Balážová, Eva ; Remr, Jiří (advisor) ; Soukup, Petr (referee)
Diploma thesis "Free concept maps in social research" deals with the possibility of using the free concept map technique in social research. To cope with this question, the author defines three domains of examination. The first one addresses the theoretical background of the research technique along with it's evolution from it's precursor - the mental models. Terminology used in literature and also later in the thesis will also be introduced within this domain. The second domain is dedicated to the introduction of our research, which used the free concept maps as a research tool. The analysis of data and their interpretations will pose as one of the conditions for the third domain - the comparison of the free concept map technique with the social survey technique. Research reports with a similar topics as the one we studied, the motivation od students to apply to university, will be used for comparison. Both techniques will be compared on the basis of in-advance prepared factors defined on the the basis of individual characteristics of each method. The outcome of the paper has the form of summary and critical analysis of the method.
