Methods for monitoring inter-library loans at selected libraries in Czech Republic

Metody sledování prezenčních výpůjček ve vybraných knihovnách v České republice Michaela Chržová Abstrakt (anglicky) The thesis is focused on the issue of monitoring inter-library loans with examples of particular libraries. This thesis commences with a definition of the in-house use and other basic terms and places them in the context of providing library loan services, the organization of library collections and the accessibility of documents in libraries. A separate chapter discusses the issue of feedback in libraries. This section describes the principle of feedback and describes the methods used and suitable for monitoring inter-library loans. Part is also devoted to the research that had been held in the past in the Czech Republic and abroad. The practical part deals with the survey of monitoring inter-library loans at libraries in the Czech Republic that was conducted via a questionnaire. Results are evaluated and described in this thesis. Examples of specific libraries show ways how to use data collected by monitoring in-house use in the acquisition of documents, development and organization of library collections. The result of this thesis is a description of methods for monitoring inter- library loans at selected libraries in the Czech Republic.

The support of the childrens' reading in the Czech Republic and German speaking countries

The diploma thesis concentrates on the children's reading issues, and compares the approach to its support in the Czech Republic and the German speaking countries. The introductory part is devoted to the current children's reading, the factors that influence it, and reading interests of today's children. It also evaluates the contemporary Czech children's literature and its publishers. The following two chapters describe the activities for the children's reading support that are developed by Czech libraries and non-librarian entities. The next part introduces the projects for the children's reading support implemented in Austria and Germany; it also shortly describes the programs of other German speaking countries. The sixth chapter briefly outlines the subject matter of the children's reading support in both Czech and foreign media. There are two surveys attached to the thesis. The first compares the activities of selected Czech and foreign libraries, and their contribution to the children's reading support. The second survey, implemented among the children readers of the Central Library of the Municipal Library in Prague, evaluates the children's satisfaction with the offered thematic discussions for the school classes. Communication barriers in library reference services

This thesis focuses on the problem of issues and barriers in communication channels in the specific environment of the reference services of the National Library of the Czech Republic. The thesis introduces the basic terms and expressions which are further developed and put in context with the topic. The introduction part is therefore dedicated to the topic of communication barriers and reference services. The following part is my own research listing the reference workstations and utilizing the information about the problem provided by the local employees. The information was gathered during monitored interviews, questionnaires and email communication. The final part is an evaluation of the results coming from the gathered data. There are several suggestion on possible improvements included. Keywords libraries, reference services, social comunication, barriers of communication.

Non-book material loan in selected libraries - exploration of effectivity

The aim of this thesis is to find out information about non-book material loans in Czech libraries whose variety has been extended. Theoretical part deals with library services focused on less conventional services. Second part focuses on exploration of occurrence and details of these services in Czech libraries. Research is carried out through online questionnaires. Selected libraries will be examine in greater detail. Library statistics, interviews with librarians and patrons, analysis of design and marketing will be used with intention to create case studies. The thesis will concluded with comparison of case studies and theoretical part and bring an evaluation of strengths and weaknesses of these services.

The comparison of the organization of work in the Community Library Radotín and in the National Technical Library

This bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of the organization of work in the Community Library in Radotín and in the National Technical Library. The first part focuses on management generally, it describes its function, motivation and communication. Another part is devoted to the specification for library management, focusing on its function, motivation and application of current trends in library management. The following chapters present these two libraries in terms of the organization of work and introduces the questionnaire survey procedure focused on people management style. In the last part of the thesis the libraries are compared in terms of organization and people management style.

Legislative framework of operation and services of libraries in the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia: comparative analysis

Following thesis has a task to analyse free library laws - czech, slovak and polish. Thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. In theoretical part is analysed firstly czech library law. Later slovak and polish library law are analysed. In practical part is firstly explained method - comparative analysis. Further there are formulated a research questions. Sampling and coding with indicators follow. Then method of analysis is solved - in our case comparation, where czech, slovak and polish library law are compared with help of the indicators. Further there are results of interviews with V. Richter and Z. Matušík. In the end there is a brief final summary.

Analysis of book collection of Historical cabinet, Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague

The thesis analyzes Historical cabinet. This library is a subject Library of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. Its main purpose is lending books to the students and professors of the Faculty of Arts, but also engages in other library projects (eg. Ask the library). The core of the library is formed from the 80's of the ninetheen century. The thesis uses inventory books, incremental lists and archive sources and analyses individual collections of Historical cabinet. It also focuses on old prints that are included in the Fund. In this context, the thesis also examines Exlibris and other provenance characters that have appeared on the old books. Likewise focuses on donations, as they constitute up to 35% of the entire Fund. Structure of the Fund was often influenced by the current political situation, which also takes into account the work.

The analysis of the institutional repositories in the Czech Republic using DSpace system

The goal of this thesis is to analyze, compare and evaluate available institutional repositories (IR) in Czechia, which are stored in the DSpace system. The development of IR and its circumstances is described through comparison of information available from registry of repositories, journals articles, presentations, and qualitative interviews. Each IR was compared by version, area of expertise, types of stored documents, organization, language mutations, number of records, administration of data entry and data exit processes, system login and user rights. A bigger part of this thesis is dedicated to search options and metadata. As a result of that the analysis of collected data brought a summary of characteristics and system options. It highlighted the positives such as the system integration of repositories, as well as negatives such as overlooking of subject description. The result of the analysis are system atributes and options. brought a summary of the system's features and capabilities. She pointed out the positives as the ability of systematic interconnection of repositories and shortcomings in the form of neglecting the subject description.
