Sommer, Jakub ; Cuhra, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Čížek, Martin (referee)
Bachelor Thesis "Colonel Jaroslav Sommer, the fate of an ordinary soldier effected by two dictatorships " attempt to descibe the lifestory of Colonel Jaroslav Sommer with use of comparison method of secondary literature and thorough Archive research. Author based on family information reveals the story of his relative Jaroslava Sommer, who fought in the Second World War in the West. His actions in the Czechoslovak army are so interesting that it certainly deserve attention and detailed historical research. The thesis focuses on Jaroslava Sommers life milestones, that are placed in historical context. By using the obtained materials leads to the conclusion that the key factor that significantly influenced Sommers life, was joining to foreign resistance. Especially his stay in the West, which was the pretense for his departure from the army and the subsequent persecution by the communist regime, can be regarded as decisive. The theme of the thesis is rewarding not only from the perspective of a specific family history, but also allows us to open up issues concerning contemporary context. The fate of one soldier helps bring complicated phase of czechoslovakian, but also international history in the first half of the twentieth century.
Generalization of the method of analytical continuation in coupling constant
Brožek, Pavel ; Horáček, Jiří (advisor) ; Čížek, Martin (referee)
In the thesis we study a method for determining resonance energies - gen- eralization of the method of analytical continuation in the coupling constant, which is based on continuation of the coupling constant λ as a function of the momentum k. A formula for λ(k) is derived for spherically symmetric potential consisting of finite number of δ-functions and its Taylor series is studied. Taylor series of λ(k) and its asymptotic behavior is studied for sep- arable potential. Proper choice of added potential parameters is studied on examples. A method for determining λ(k) poles is described for spherically symmetric potential with added δ-function. It is tested whether the knowl- edge of λ(k) poles can be useful to improve the accuracy of the determination of the resonance parameters of the original potential.
Military-political Aspects of Soviet Invasion Of CSSR in August 1968
Čížek, Martin ; Reiman, Michal (advisor) ; Tůma, Oldřich (referee) ; Kudrna, Ladislav (referee)
The aim of the dissertation is to explain the military-political reasons behind the long-term attempt of the Soviet Union to deploy its units on Czechoslovak territory, as well as the root cause of the military operation against Czechoslovakia which was carried out by the five member armies of the Warsaw Pact. One of the main reasons for this was the military and strategic situation in Central Europe in the 1960's, and also the issue of nuclear weapons and their carriers. A separate chapter is dedicated to Soviet attempts to deploy its units on Czechoslovak territory prior to Operation Danube. The final chapter deals with the reorganization of the CPA, the establishment of the CGV and the NATO reaction to the change in the strenght of armed forces present on the border of the two Blocs.
Anglo-French defence cooperation as reaction to defence spending cuts
Zajíček, Jakub ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Čížek, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with military partnership of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with France at the time between the end of the Cold War and the signing of agreements to increase defence cooperation at conference in London in November 2010. This paper analyses the various factors that have contributed to the development of cooperation between these two countries and to aims to prove or disprove the thesis that the reason for an unprecedented convergence of Britain and France in the defence sector in 2010 are budget cuts, with which then British government responded to the economic crisis. This topic is divided into three chapters due to a need of separate analysis of individual factors. In the first part the study deals with the dynamics and development of military cooperation between both countries after the Cold War, with emphasis on the conclusions of the London summit in 2010. The second part analyses the financial situation of the Ministry of Defence in the period since 1990. The corresponding chapter examines the response and specific measures of the Ministry of Defence to a lack of resources to meet the required demands and the reasons why the development of cooperation between Britain and France had not occurred previously. The third part is devoted to the...
System for contactless ultrasonic measuring of edema
Zahradníčková, Ludmila ; Čížek, Martin (referee) ; Sekora, Jiří (advisor)
Determination of the extent and state of a limb edema is based on information about its current volume. There are a number of methods for volume measurements. The theoretical part of this semestral thesis discusses the etiology, classification and principles of volume measurements and basic information about ultrasound and stepper motors. The practical part consists of a design of own device for a contactless limb volume measurement with ultrasonic module. It consists of a code for a microcontroller which controles the whole system including the computational operations and a real model of the system.
Somalia - Threat to the USA? Analysis of the U.S. Security Policy, 2001-2011
Matějka, Stanislav ; Bečka, Jan (advisor) ; Čížek, Martin (referee)
This thesis deals with the security threat of Somalia and the U.S. strategies applied to counter this threat primarily in the period 2001-2011. The first descriptive part discusses developments in Somalia in the years 1991-2011, with emphasis on instability and confusion in the country to outline the scope of the security threat landscape. The paper then deals with the phenomenon of "failed state", analyzes the nature of Somali piracy and discusses the strategies applied in the U.S. struggle with the Somali threat. In its final part the paper summarizes and critically evaluates the possible alternatives of American foreign policy for the future.
Excitation of molecules by cold electrons
Šulc, Miroslav ; Horáček, Jiří (advisor) ; Čárský, Petr (referee) ; Čížek, Martin (referee)
Title: Excitation of molecules by cold electrons Author: Miroslav Šulc Department / Institute: Institute of Theoretical Physics, Charles University in Prague Supervisor of the doctoral thesis: prof. RNDr. Jiří Horáček, DrSc., Institute of Theoretical Physics, Charles University Abstract: Several methods for low energy collisional processes are investigated. In the first part, attention is especially devoted to examination of applicability of the R-matrix method combined with the Schwinger-Lanczos (SL) variational principle for potential scattering with long-range forces. Next sections deal with the development of the interaction correlation-polarization (CP) potential in the framework of the Dis- crete Momentum Representation (DMR) method on the grounds of the Local Density Approximation in the Density Functional Theory (DFT) context. Obtained results are then utilized in body-frame (BF), static exchange + polarization (SEP), calcula- tions within an analysis of experimental data for e−-N2 scattering comprising a part of a larger project addressing theoretical examination of rotational excitations of small molecules in the gas phase induced by electron impact. For N2, a new phenomenon consisting in suppression of backward cross-section below 95 meV is observed and con- sequently attributed to...
The War in North Africa - historiographical presentation
Drda, Václav ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Čížek, Martin (referee)
Topic of the thesis is war in North Africa. The goal is to show a quality of Czech literature (books, magazines) focused on the situation in North Africa during the Second World War. Firstly, I present the methods of my research and show a content of the thesis. Secondly, there is a historical introduction about wars in North Africa, to give some general information to the reader. The main part, as already mentioned, is about comparing the Czech writings. General possibilities of sorting the war history according to its focus have been presented. The first part, orientated to the magazines, is divided in relation with the traditional system of military history - articles are compared in its folder. The second part - comparison of publications is organized due to a time line because all the books are examples of modern military history. The beginning of the time line is the spring Rommel's offensive in 1942. The end is demonstrated by the battle at El Alamein and a withdrawal of the Africa Corps. The conclusion contains all the knowledge about the comparisons which has been achieved during this research.
Model průchodu dvojitou bariérou s anharmonickými vibracemi
Gráf, Lukáš ; Čížek, Martin (advisor) ; Houfek, Karel (referee)
In the presented thesis we study the electron scattering off a molecular junction with anharmonic vibrations. This junction we simulate by a double barrier in- cluding the cosine dependence on the vibrational coordinate. The electron trans- mission through the barrier can be viewed as movement of the electron on the surface of infinitely long cylinder with zero potential energy everywhere except for a finite region where it is described by delta function terms. We solve this 2D problem employing the transfer matrix method and we present also the scat- tering theory approach to the problem. Using our own program we compute the numerically exact transmission probability and we investigate its dependence on parameters characterizing the model. We compare particular parametric regimes with various approximations which can be used for given settings. The elastic scattering is approximated by one-dimensional and Chase approximations where- as in case of vibrational excitation we employ the LCP approximation. Resulting graphs affirm that these approximation methods often used in molecular physics work very well.
The impact of the United States of America in Nicaragua in 80's of the 20th century
Risingerová, Karolina ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Čížek, Martin (referee)
The Bachelor thesis "The impact of the United States of America in Nicaragua in 80's of the 20th century"deals with actions of the Reagan's administration in this state of the Central America in the years 1981 - 1988 during his presidential mandate. The bachelor thesis is supposed to be the case study of the changing understanding of the concept of non-intervention in time. It is not only the description of events, but also the evaluation from the point of view of the international law and the research of the dierences in opinions of the authors as of the scientic literature, so of the press. This is followed by theanalysis of the arguments of supporters and critics of the Reagan's policy. The thesis is basicly divided into four parts. The rst one is about the terms, which are related to the topics of the thesis and are stipulated in the international law. The following chapter provides a basic overview of events in Nicaragua in the 80's of the past century. The third part examines various arguments considered by authors as consider important, with regard to the turning point - the end of the Cold War. The nal chapter analyses the reasons of the authors of the third chapter in relation to the timeline, but also to the legal documents from the rst part.
