Participation or Representation? Two Models of Bringing Women into Politics The question of underrepresentation of women in decision-making is one of the most important issues of feminist thought. Within inquiry of this problem the terms "political representation of women" and "political participation of women" are often used as synonyms without considering their different sense. The aim of this thesis is to show that concepts of "representation" and "participation" refer to two different ways of justifying bringing more women into politics. The first type can be considered as stronger claim due to carrying two additional questions - who and what should women in politics actually represent. In my view representation is connected first with the issue of interests and second with some concept of women's identity. The second type - participation - is presented as weaker claim in the sense of demanding "only" actual access to rights which are formally secured for women (or rather persons identified as women) on the basis of justice. Practical use of these two models is illustrated on the case of affirmative action and its justification. Creating Social Structure among Children in Nursery School

The diploma thesis "Creating Social Structure among Children in Nursery School" deals with equality of opportunity to pre-school education. The education right is guaranteed for man by legal system. The thesis deals with equal chance to pre-school attendance, to be enrol in a standard class and in free-times activities. The thesis investigates a social structure of a class and its influencing factors. This thesis investigates which access - equal or unequal - is used in a nursery school. The case study of a small town compares two nursery schools - two classes of 6-year-old children. The results of the diploma show the existing social unequality in pre-school education. This social unequality is based on the child's etnicity, person characteristics, gender, age and socio-ekonomic background of family.

Study of globalization in the U.S. and possibilities of American teaching methods are discussed. The focus is on approaches to globalization in sociology, sociocultural anthropology and gender studies.
Analyze of current situation concerning equality of men and women within the power of the Ministry of Education

The study maps the current situation concerning equality of men and women within the power of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. Using gender sensitive statistics, the study explores all educational levels and research and development. The study reveals serious inadequacies in statistics collection as well as horizontal and vertical segregation in all education level and R&D. The study presents proposals for preliminary measures to address this situation.

Activism in the Czech anti-globalization movement from a gender perspective is examined. The article focuses on the representation of men and women. The status of men and women and gender divison of labour are investigated. It is argued that there is a gap between the ideology of the movement and the real fulfilment of the ideals from a gender perspective. Women participate less than men, their position is inferior and there is gendered division of activities in the movement

The publication is a theoretical study related to the research project Gender aspects of transitions between educational levels which is conducted in 2004-05. The study is focused on education from a gender perspective. The gender approach and its concept in social science is proposed at the beginning. The gender aspects of education are considered in association with those aspects of labour market. The part focused on gender in education in general covers the analysis of participation of men and women among teachers and students, pedagogical communication, curricula, textbooks and educational outcomes from a gender perspective. The gender analysis in university education and in the sphere of science and research is part of the study. In addition all levels of Czech sphere of education are described with begard to representation of men and women among students and trachers. The purpose, objectives and methods of conducted research are outlined in the final part.
