This bachelor thesis consists of two parts - the translation and its theoretical commentary. It is a translation of the foreword and first two chapters from the book Wer's glaubt, wird selig written by Heinrich and Jonas Bedford-Strohm. The aim of the thesis is to make a functionally equivalent translation. The commentary is composed of translation analysis according to Christiane Nord (2009), description of the translation method, translation problems and shifts in the translation.

Annotated translation: Musik - Sprache - Rhythmus. Bemerkungen zu Grundfragen der Musikphilosophie.

I open this bachelor thesis with my translation od Andreas Luckner's philosophical essay Musik - Sprache - Rhythmus, contained in a collection of an editorial series of the German publishing house Edition Text + Kritik. The translation is followed up by a three-part commentary. In the first place i tis an analysis of the original text according to Christiane Nord. Next, I present the translator problems I faced during my work. The analysis is concluded with a summary of the translation shifts, as per Anton Popovič and Jiří Levý, that I employed in the conversion from the source to the target language. The thesis is conculded with a description of the translation method. The translatd text discusses the relationship between music, language and rhythm from a philosophical, musicological and linguistical point of view. According to the author himself, the text does not reach a clear and complete conclusion, which occasionally appears to be problematic for the translation. When translating, I primarily considered the functional aspect, which determined the translation method I used. I tried to maintain the dialectics od fidelity and transparency. Annotated translation: Five selected articles from gesundheit.de

This bachelor's thesis consists of the translation of five selected articles and the commentary of the translation. Two articles are about high blood pressure, two about diabetes and one is about cholesterol. The commentary is constituted by the analysis of the source text, based on Christiane Nord's model, as well as the description of the translation method, solutions of selected translation problems and the typology of translation shifts.

Heidi by Johanna Spyri and its Czech Translations

The subject of this thesis is a two-part novel Heidi's Lehr- und Wanderjahre (1880) and Heidi kann brauchen, was es gelernt hat (1881) by Swiss author Johanna Spyri and its two Czech translations from 1933/34 and 1971. The theoretical part deals with the author's personality and her work. The original text is then put into cultural-historical and literary context of that time and is examined from literary scientific and linguistic points of view. Subsequently, the thesis describes translation norms of the given time periods, personalities of both translators and briefly presents their translations. In connection with the latter translation, text adaptation and text manipulation issues are also discussed. Further attention is paid to the specifics of translation of children's literature and the reception of both the original text and the translations. The empirical part of the thesis provides a translation analysis of selected parts of the original and the translations and concludes with a comparison of both Czech versions.

German and Czech Translations of Roy Jacobsen's Novel De usynlige

The aim of this master's thesis is to create an analysis of the Czech and German translations of Roy Jacobsen's novel De usynlige, which was published by Cappelen Damm in 2013. The first part includes a biography of Roy Jacobsen and a literary analysis of his novel. Translators Jarka Vrbová. Gabriele Haefs and Andreas Brunstermann are introduced as well as interviewed. The mainstay of this thesis is to analyse the Czech and German translations. The analysis is focused on the lexical, syntactic and stylistic level and based on Jiří Levý's theory of a faithful and free translation. Afterwards, the translation methods in both translations are deduced and compared with each other. The thesis presents several topics in the field of publishing practices.

Annotated translation: Denken - zu Risiken und Nebenwirkungen.

The purpose of my bachelor thesis is to translate two chapters from a book called Denken - zu Risiken und Nebenwirkungen, from German to Czech. It was written by Manfred Spitzer, a famous German psychologist. In the Commentary, I use Christiane Nord's model of original text analysis in translation. Furthermore, I present the most significant translation problems and shifts, invented by Jiří Levý and Anton Popovič. The book presents the newest findings related to human nervous system. The text is easily comprehensible, it can be read by the general public without any risks of misinterpretation. The first chapter focuses on the differences between Western and Eastern thinking, the second one describes the positive influence which bilingualism has on human thinking. During the translation process, my main aim is to follow the functionally oriented approach to translation and to work out the most appropriate method. Because the text deals with medical topics, it is essential to give forth the exact meaning of the text without disturbing the original meaning. I combine faithful and free translation - faithfulness does not mean literality and freedom does not equal attractiveness. The aim of this thesis was to create an annotated translation from German into Czech of part of a vitamin booklet published by Nestlé Company in 2006. This thesis consists of two parts. The first part comprises the translation of a German text into Czech. The second part consists of a translation analysis of the original text based on the model of Ch. Nord, including the translation method and approach. Further, there are chosen translation problems on the lexical, syntactical and pragmatic level and an analysis of translation shifts based on the models of J. Levý and A. Popovič.
