Viticultural tradition in Bratislava

Viticulture has long belonged to Bratislava. It has been mentioned in archival reports since the middle of the 13th century. The vineyards stretched from Bratislava Castle to Rača and Vajnor. Especially in the last century, large-scale construction of apartment and family houses began to replace vineyards. This trend still persists and developers attract people to live with a view of the city and the proximity of nature, from which, however, they take themselves. The vineyards have been receding for the centuries of the developing city and this historic heritage is falling into oblivion. however, vineyards are not only a reminder of the glorious past, but also of irreplaceable creators of biodiversity and contribute to a better climate for the city. The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyze the retreat of vineyards expanding in Bratislava. Conditions for vine growing and its processing in Bratislava and its surroundings. Subsequently, finding a suitable form and applying the outputs from the analytical part in a specific architectural design.
Information Society and E-Health

The aim of the thesis has been to describe and analyse the issue of eHealth in the context of the information society and to define its role in the Czech Republic and the world. Besides the presentation of the basic characteristics of the concept of eHealth, its position within the WHO and the EU, the work has focused mainly on the situation in the field of eHealth in the Czech Republic in relation to the information society at several levels. This includes specialist companies, national and regional projects, specialist conferences, universities and the role of medical libraries in this area. A SWOT analysis with the support of researches on published documents dealing with this topic and the topic of professional conferences is used to analyse the overall condition. The final summary of this survey provides a brief overview of current trends in the concept of eHealth and the outline of future development in the Czech Republic.
The profile of Dialog vendor

Diplomová práce se zabývá profilem databázového centra Dialog, vývojem jeho služeb a produktů a aspekty cenové politiky. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována zakladateli tohoto centra - Rogeru Summitovi. První část práce se zabývá dětstvím a profesionální praxí Rogera Summita, která je neodmyslitelně spjata s historií databázového centra Dialog. Nastíněn je vývoj služeb a produktů pro koncové uživatele až do roku 2000. Tato část se také věnuje prodeji společnosti Dialog firmě Knight-Ridder, Inc. a později firmě MAID plc. V rámci toho jsou představeni noví prezidenti Dialogu. Druhá část práce je věnována současnosti databázového centra Dialog. Jedná se o období od roku 2000, kdy je Dialog vlastněn informačním koncernem Thomson Corporation. V následující části je popsán vývoj cenové politiky Dialogu. Jsou zde rovněž popsány názory uživatelů na zavedení nových cenových modelů. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty aktuální údaje o tomto databázovém centru. Přílohy se zaměřují na rozšiřující informace, které se týkají Rogera Summita. Uvedena je také jeho profesionální bibliografie.
Competitive Intelligence in pharmaceutical industry

This diploma thesis describes and analyzes an area of competitive intelligence in the pharmaceutical industry. The work is divided into five parts. The first part deals with competitive intelligence and related aspects, the second part is dedicated to the pharmaceutical industry, with all specifics. The third part deals with competitive intelligence in the intersection with the pharmaceutical industry, the fourth part contains the classification and description of information resources appropriate for the activities of CI and a fifth part presents research, which consists of a questionnaire survey among pharmaceutical companies on the state of competitive intelligence and semi-structured interview with an expert in the area of CI in pharmaceutical company. The survey results represent a certain sub-probe, which demonstrates the strong position of CI as a common standard of pharmaceutical companies. Faculty of medicine students' information behavior

This thesis aims to qualitatively map the current situation of the information behavior and fulfilment information-seeking needs of students of the 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University, which can be reflected in subsequent professional practice of graduates. Methods. Analysis of selected Czech information behavior studies defined the research questions used in semi-structured interviews with the respondents from the 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University. Conclusions were deducted through the complex analysis of the interview records and then compared with selected foreign researches. Result. The interviews were conducted with 20 respondents from General Medicine, General Nurse and Physiotherapy across different years of study. The result is very complex and detailed probe into their information behavior. Conclusion. Research has provided a great deal of knowledge about respondents' information behavior from their own perspective and a deeper insight into the issue. This knowledge can serve as a valuable basis for further research.

Databases and digital libraries for pharmaceutical disciplines

The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe and basically analyze representative databases and digital libraries that focus on pharmaceutical disciplines. The introductory chapter is concerned with related terminology, while the following chapters refer to significant subjects and principles in the field of pharmaceutical industry, and also to important classification systems and retrieval languages that can be found in some of the described resources. The fifth chapter focuses on pharmaceutical information resources which are offered by some of the world's leading database service companies. The sixth chapter contains a description and a basic analysis of 10 representative electronic resources for pharmaceutical disciplines. The empirical section of this diploma thesis consists of three major parts. One of them is a subject coverage analysis of bibliographic databases MEDLINE and EMBASE from the viewpoint of pharmaceutical information. Secondly, it contains a presentation of an indicative survey that is related to using electronic information resources by a commercial and a nonprofit subject. The last chapter deals with information brokering that is presented on example of the Medistyl company.
