The transformation of medical profession in current society and the development of international pharmaceutical industry in the Czech Republic are also discussed. The empirical part of the thesis reports the findings of a qualitative interview study undertaken with ambulatory physicians concerning their relationships with pharmaceutical companies. The goal of the research was to explore how and why Czech physicians interact with the pharmaceutical companies, gain insight into their ethical evaluation and assessment of consequences and detect the strategies and rationalizations they use to cope with these relationships. The maternity and abortion dilemma also deal with a topic of decision making which is more philosophical or psychological issue than sociological. That is why the author of this thesis can focus on the theme of structure and agency with new prism. In this thesis the connection among several scientific disciplines: philosophy, psychology, sociology and demography, is illustrated. In the theoretical part, some of the sociological concepts of human conduct and the theories of decision making are being studied. In the second part, these concepts and theoretical findings are being discussed from the empirical point of view. Finally in the third part of this study, attention is paid to the concrete maternity and abortion dilemma. Numerous of empirical surveys are analysed to find out many factors and correlations which relate to the decision making in the dilemma.

Buriánková, Jitka ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Hamplová, Dana (referee)
The theme of this thesis lies on the border of sociology of values, body, health and lifestyle. The main goal is to explore and explain in detail some ideas about the importance of the visage and of the body care in modern society in the perspective of strategies of individual participants or groups. The thesis is formally divided into two main parts. The first one is mostly theoretically focused - it introduces the dilemma of the examined phenomenon initially by gradually defining basic concepts, terms and categories and then thorough description of the historical aspects of the development their real social representation, then it presents the attitudes to the main subject also in terms of purely sociological aspects and finally shows the social phenomenon from the perspective of cultural value system. There is a description of the new research "Aktér 2009"carried out by STEM in the second part of my thesis. This research includes batteries about the lifestyle. The research part follows the line of empirical bases that deal with selected problems of sociology of body, its perceptions and individual care of the body (e.g. issues of diets, eating habits, fitness and wellness etc.). Sociology of health. Health and media in the social context
Novotný, Tomáš ; Mudd, Dana (advisor) ; Hamplová, Dana (referee)
ABSTRACT /ENG/ Sociology of Health Health and media in the social context Until the middle of the twentieth century, modern scientific medicine had an excellent reputation as a universally effective institution. In recent decades, however, this idea has been called into question, because the public has realised that the idealised image of medicine promised more than it could fulfil. The image of medicine over the past 50 years has changed significantly and today it is closely associated with other areas, including the environment, politics and the economy. The thesis is therefore devoted to current issues of health systems, health information and mass media as a mediator of health information. One reason why we will criticise modern medicine is that the Czech Republic can not cover all the costs associated with caring for patients; others will include lobbies in the health sector, and the general difficulty of comparing the country's quality of health care and research to other countries. For the public, the media, playing a major role in the process of the "secularisation" of medicine, has become the main source of information on health and health care. But the media also has another function: to direct our attention to health issues and...

At Childbirth, its hazards and its workminelike finis his regard with social optics. Determination and perception of childbirth is mainly different in view of two "competing conceptions" ( medically led childbirth, natural childbirth ).This graduation theses is oriented at perception and opinions of pregnant women. Theirs opinions are analyzed and processed with qualitative analysis. In last few years, "different" childbirth than classical is more and more in subconsciousness of women. Even when women more often choose medically led childbirth, some of them start to thing about different, alternative possibilities. Their opinion is, that woman shall have right to choose and more or less undertake responsibility over this decision.Women wanna be more involved in decisions about their bodies, childbirths. With choosing of way of childbirth, there are prefered different criterions. Even if maternity clinics in last few years ( after 1989 ) changes their position in this...
The link between work conditions and subjective health in the Czech Republic
Krátká, Tereza ; Hamplová, Dana (advisor) ; Kuchař, Pavel (referee)
The relationship between health and working conditions represents an important topic of sociologic research. Still, in the Czech context this theme has not been sufficiently dealt with. This work's aim is to contribute to the research in the branch, to offer a detail study of the relationship between subjective health and working conditions. Firstly, the theoretical part of the text offers definitions of the concepts subjective health and working conditions. Secondly, there are defined three hypotheses about the relationship between the categories subjective health and working conditions. Then, the hypotheses are tested using contingency tables and regression analysis. Afterwards, there is offered a comparison between the study's conclusions and outputs of similar foreign works. The results of the analysis correspond with those reached in foreign context - in comparison with unemployed, economically active people feel them healthier. Using the regression model, significant influence of education on this relationship was proved. Other testing brought a conclusion that people working in difficult conditions evaluate their health worse than people who do not have to cope with hard working conditions. There was not proved a significant difference between men and women in evaluation of subjective health...
Kdo se vyhýbá manželství?
Hamplová, Dana
The paper analyzes increase in non-marital fertility in the Czech Republic in 1990-2005. It emphasize that non-marital fertility is typical for women with low education and for women living in regions with little economic prospects. Using data from SECM, it is argued that this increase in extra-marital childbearing cannot be fully explained by procreation within cohabiting unions. Instead, this paper points out that decline in marital births can be to a large degree attributed to men’s withdrawal from families, which is significant especially among lower classes.
On Ideological Approaches Towards the Family During the Socialist Period
Horská, P. ; Hamplová, Dana
The work describes theoretical approaches towards the family from 50s to 80s. The emphasis is especially placed on the Marxist ideology and sociology of family and on the practical implications of these theories. The first phase of the communist regime in 50s was characterised by a strongly anti-family rhetoric and politics, and this was weakened only in 60. Functionalist approach towards the family and endeavour to fight against bourgeois familiarism was typical for the period of 70s and 80s.
