Vlasák, Ondřej ; Kubátová, Hana (advisor) ; Gelnarová, Jitka (referee)
This thesis Position of Roma minority in the First Czechoslovak Republic focuses on position of ethnic and national minorities in the First Czechoslovak Republic between 1918 and 1938, specifically on position of Roma minority. Many scholars have already focused on the topic of position of minorities in the First Czechoslovak Republic, but only few focused their work on position of Roma minority. This topic still remains quite unexpolred. In the first part of my thesis, I will focus my research on disprooving claim, that we can consider Czechoslovakia as consociational democracy, by apllication of four basic consociational mechanisms on the political system of the First Czechoslovak Republic. In the second part of my research I will focus on position of Roma minority in Czechoslovak society by analyzing origins of Roma minority, laws focused on Roma minority and position of political parties and majority society towards Roma minority.
The Political System of the Second Czechoslovak Republic
Konkrétněji se v této kapitole věnuji ústavě, fungování státní správy, soustavě státních orgánů, hospodářskému režimu a dodržování občanských práv a svobod. Samostatnou kapitolu jsem přiřadil stranickému systému, na kterém byl nejviditelnější úpadek demokracie. V této kapitole popisuji možné podoby stranického systému a velkou pozornost věnuji Straně národní jednoty a Národní straně práce. Dále popisuji stranický systém na Slovensku a objasňuji fungování neloajálních opozičních skupin. V závěru budu aplikovat Linzovu teorii autoritativních režimů na případ Druhé republiky, čímž zodpovím onu výzkumnou otázku.
Comparison of causes of attitudes of CSSD and SMER-SD to the migration crisis in Europe
Vosátka, Petr ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Gelnarová, Jitka (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find the cause of different attitudes of CSSD and SMER-SD towards the European migration crisis. While the CSSD displays a certain degree of solidarity towards migrants, SMER-SD takes a strict refusal attitude in this issue. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the principles and historical development of the ideology of social democratic parties, as the basic common basis of both political parties. To demonstrate the attitudes of each party, official documents, press releases, or outputs in the media are used, as well as the views of selected party members. In order to find the ultimate cause of differences in parties attitudes, four selected independent variables related to migration are analyzed in the practical part. These are structures of voters of the surveyed parties; shares of foreigners in the countries of these parties; the level of public opinion on migration in those countries; history, tradition and access to migration in the history of both political parties.

Velvet Revolution: A Gender Perspective
Fišerová, Anna ; Gelnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor's thesis seeks to introduce a new perspective on one of the most important episodes in the era of modern Czech history - the Velvet Revolution - and it looks at its events through "gender lens". The events happening in the last two months of the year 1989 led to the fall of the communist regime in the former Czechoslovakia. This development would not be possible without the men and women active in then "revolutionary structures" such as Civic Forum or the students movement. It is the active participation of women that this thesis concerns itself with. The aim is not only to find out whether women engaged to the same extent as men but also if it is possible to typify their activities. It also tries to discover whether gender stereotypes played some role in the process of eventual typification - the question is if there was a division of labour based on gender within the revolutionary structures. In the theoretical part, the thesis operates with the concepts of gender and gender stereotypes and the ideology of separate spheres. In the empirical part, it introduces the outcomes of analysis of my own qualitative research - personal half-structured interviews conducted with active women participants of the Velvet Revolution.

Štěchová, Lucie ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Gelnarová, Jitka (referee)
Despite the fact that the muslim community in the Czech Republic is not so large in comparison with some other European countries, we can meet manifestations of isalmophobia even here. The initiave Islám v ČR nechceme (further referred to as The Initiative or IvČRN; translates We do not want Islam in the Czech Republic) belongs among the most significant representatives of Czech anti-Islamic scenes, but so far has stayed ouside the interest of political scientists. Ambition of the paper is to fill in, so to speak, the empty space. The paper concerns a case study submitting characteristic of IvČRN both from the organizational (persons, structure, activities, funds and means) and ideological points of view. Via qualitative analysis of text and audiovisual materials, whose authors are either individuals associated with IvČRN or IvČRN itself, according to the program Atlas.ti and based on Grounded Theory method I will specify the way IvČRN interprets Islam. I will also examine how the Czech political scene reflect on IvČRN, and what relation there is between IvČRN and the far right. The paper will also present a short overview of other anti-Islam entities in the Czech Republic and some western countries. The work also includes interpretation of Islam by selected Czech Arabists (Luboš Kropáček, Bronislav...
