Cryptocurrency – a modern kind of money

Decentralized E-Voting on Solana Blockchain
Virtual Currencies
Mlýnková, Veronika ; Sikora, Marek (referee) ; Zeman, Václav (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of virtual currencies based on the blockchain technology. The foundations of the cryptocurrency workings are explained on cryptocurrency Bitcoin, which is later described in a greater detail from technological point of view. In addition to the general workings of a bitcoin network, this thesis describes creation of bitcoin addresses, the composition of transactions and the way they are sign and verified. A broader view of cryptocurrencies is offered within the fourth chapter, with the classification into generations and explanation of terms coin, token and stable coin. Chapter Ethereum explains the meaning of smart contracts and decentralized applications. Within the thesis a laboratory task was performed, which describes the procedure for programming a simplified version of blockchain in Python. To summarize the discussed topic, an educational web application was created.
Vliv vybraných proměnných na trh s kryptoměnami
Doležal, Daniel
Doležal, D. The impact of selected variables on the cryptocurrency market. Diploma thesis. Brno: Mendel University, 2023. The thesis deals with the selection of individual factors and the subsequent identification of whether or not these factors have an influence on the development of the price of Bitcoin. The variables are selected based on scientific articles that deal with this issue and subsequently are subjected to regression analysis. The analysis itself focuses on the period from the last Bitcoin halving, i.e. on those variables that could have potentially influenced the development of the price of our asset in the last approximately three years. The focus is on the general influence of explanatory variables that influence the price of Bitcoin, but also on a comparison of the significance and nature of the influence of individual determinants on the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Ethereum. The results of the work are critically evaluated with scientific articles and recommendations for investors are made based on the information obtained.
Síťový a substituční efekt na kryptoměnových trzích
Vařejka, David
Vařejka, D. Network and substitution effect on cryptocurrency markets. Diploma thesis. Brno: Mendel University, 2023. This thesis examines the extent of substitution and network effects in the cryptocurrency market. These phenomena are investigated based on the relationships of individual cryptocurrency returns and other sentiment indicators. The theoreti-cal part of the thesis characterizes the network and substitution effects and further describes the consequences of their effects on the cryptocurrency market. The empirical part of the thesis is based on panel regression analysis with fixed effects. The dataset under study contains 31 cryptocurrencies for the period from the fourth quarter of 2017 to the first quarter of 2023. The selected data is weekly in nature. The results of the empirical analysis confirm the statistical significance of the included variables, the overall robustness of the model, and point to a long-lasting substitution effect in the cryptocurrency market.

Impact of total transaction fees on the price of Bitcoin and Ethereum
Černý, David ; Krištoufek, Ladislav (advisor) ; Hronec, Martin (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to explore the price dynamics of Bitcoin and Ethereum with special emphasis on the role of transaction fees, which can provide insight into network congestion and user behaviour, and may also reflect the future economic viability of these networks. Previous research has shown intertwin- ing relationships between variables and suggested possible endogeneity in a cryptoasset environment. For these purposes, a system of two simultaneous equations for transaction fees and price was developed and subsequently esti- mated using the 2SLS method. The analysis covers relationships from both long-term and short-term perspectives. It turns out that the price dynamics of both assets is determined by a diverse mix of fundamental, economic and spec- ulative factors, despite the narrative that the price of cryptoassets is primarily driven by speculative factors. Furthermore, in the context of the fee-price re- lationship, it turned out that the relationship is a priori that the price impacts the fees, however, at some intervals, the opposite relationship is also shown, which is rather an exception. An important contribution could be the finding of a stable positive effect of the total number of active addresses in Bitcoin on transaction fees, which might bring new insights to the...
