The arrival of new spirituality, Hinduism and spiritual Masters in the Czech Republic
Nykodýmová, Iveta ; Štampach, Ivan (advisor) ; Vojtíšek, Zdeněk (referee)
This text refers to the Indian religious beliefs, Hinduism in particular, that we can meet in the Czech Republic. Many people are interested in these religions and my question is 'what makes present man so interested in these religions and what is so attractive to them?' Foremost in my text there is basic information about Hinduism, including the myths, Gods and Goddesses and creeds. As the Indian culture is very diverse and rich I have only mentioned basic information for understanding the text well. Then I have described yoga in the text, Bhaktiyoga in particular. This type of yoga forms part of the Hare Khrisna movement. Both Yoga in Daily Life and the Hare Khrisna have already worked for many years and both have continuity with their Indian founders and came into our subconscious through their spiritual pursuit. I have described their influence in the Czech Republic on the basis of my questionnaire and even on my personal experience. Apart from these two movements this text refers to individual persons who are active in this kind of lifestyle. My conclusion is that these religious trends do not signify any danger or threat for our society; on the contrary it means that by helping us to find our way to God this enriches our daily lives. Present Male Spirituality -The Concept of Richard Rohr
Knězů, Vojtěch ; Lachman, Jan (advisor) ; Glogar, Petr (referee)
Uncertainty of the world, pressure of the consuming society, inappropriate emphasis on success, and other factors lead many western people to the sense of meaninglessness. It is also evident from life of men who are not able to bear the responsibility for their deeds, brign up the children and share life experience. Their true self is often overwhelmed by pursuit of power, prestige or property. Present male spirituality tries to grasp these problems. The aim of this work is to introduce the themes of this spiritual movenment: the need for rituals, fatherhood, relationships of women and men, need for contemplation and related social action. The heterogeneity of the themes determines overlapping of this work with other theological disciplines such as biblical theology, psychology of religion and religious studies. The choice of the themes and the general point of view on the male spirituality stems from the concept of Richard Rohr, an American Franciscan, who is the leading personality of the recent male spiritual movement. Formation of new identity and symbols of the Czech society in 1989-1993 (Analysis in terms of the concept of civil religion)
Novotný, Josef ; Halík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Lupták Burzová, Petra (referee)
The thesis tries to prove applicability of the concept "civil religion" to the Czech society. After presentation of the concept of civil religion originating from R. Bellah, civil society and legitimization (grounded in the ideas of J. Přibáň) the addresses of president V. Havel and the articles from the selected newspapers of that period are analysed. In 1989-1993 as the transformative and crisis period one can observe the debate about the necessity of creating a civil society, finding a way of legitimizing the new condition and creating a new collective identity. Focusing on the individual and the citizenship following from the analysed articles constitutes the societal fundaments; and in these fundaments, thanks to "civil religion", there are recognized the transcendent component and the universality that both convey unifying potential and can be presented in a particular form through myths.

Loginova, Karyna ; Valková, Irena (advisor) ; Ditrych, Ondřej (referee)
Ever since World War II up to the 80`s the world had not witnessed any form of suicide terrorism. Since then the rate of such attacks have been growing on a global level. Nowadays, suicide terrorism is one of the most researched and still not fully explained syndromes that imposes threat to nations, societies, individuals, groups, governments and other parties. Many studies and analyses focus on determining the reasons and the motives for such acts, including the damages that suicide terrorism causes on global level. There have been multiple variables determined as key factors influencing suicide terrorism, including religion, political occupation, nationalism and many others, yet there is no single answer as to why organizations and/or individuals decide on such radical tactic. Thus, as a modern phenomenon, suicide terrorism triggers the analysis from several perspectives of the individual, organizational and psychological background. This master thesis deals with the case study of Chechen suicide terrorism and its implications in the studies of suicide terrorism. The main focus of the research is on determining main motives and reasons of Chechnya to use suicide bombing against Russia. The analysis uses the Robert Pape's theory on suicide terrorism and done by using qualitative research, with...

Liberalism
Kružíková, Eva ; Hrdlička, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee)
Unstoppable headway of human kind had to face prejudices and control of those in power for centuries. Without any doubt it is incredible that there were individuals to extend outer limits of human wisdom although they were punished for their deeds afterwards. Renaissance brought massive progress of civic society. Not only Church and monasteries were wisdom-holders any more. Fruits of renaissance were given to a large number of people as the society started to loosen both on the field of politics and religion. Nevertheless feudal system of government that restrained scholarship and education from serfs was not overcame yet. ln that respect England was the first to leave old ways of thinking behind (as many times after) and overtook the rest of Europe. That was the reason for choosing England in that age to be a subject of my thesis. This age is represented by reasonable politics which I find very familiar to me. Inner politics based on Empirism and outer in order to sustain power balance in Europe.

Roles of Women in the Works of Two Jewish-American Female Authors: Rebecca Goldstein and Allegra Goodman
Kozáková, Tereza ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Grmela, Josef (referee)
The Jewish-American situation seen through the lenses of Goldstein's and Goodman's works bring us closer to understanding the challenges the Jews in America have had to face. American culture provides open possibilities and chances that Jews had not been used to. This change starts the process of gradual assimilation in the forms of new educational opportunities, new views of gender roles, a modern approach to life where all people can be appreciated and successful, women not excluded. The impact of place and culture shapes the face of traditional Judaism, which needs to find ways to retain orthodox ways and keep Jews united against the possible dangers that might come from the outside. Yet progressive assimilation is inevitable and concerns all American Jews, even those who try to seek shelter in the womb of the orthodox communities. The changes take place especially in the new generations who do not have much connection to the past and Jewish experience on the far distant continent. They create their own version of Judaism based partly on the ways of their parents and partly on what American society offers. American values are gradually taken into consideration and influence the views of the young Jews. The new face of the religion is no longer what Judaism used to look like in the old shtetls. New rules...

Religion and spirituality in contemporary society
Zelenka, Martin ; Duffková, Jana (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
Tato práce se bude zabývat stavem náboženské sféry v dnešní době. Cílem bude prozkoumat, popsat a zanalyzovat náboženství a duchovnost v kontextu s některými nejvýraznějšími charakteristikami současné společnosti.
