Artificial Intelligence for Texas Hold'em Poker
Pilný, Martin ; Pilát, Martin (advisor) ; Hric, Jan (referee)
Although Texas Hold'em is among the most popular poker variants, there are only a few effective ways to replace the human by a computer while playing it. Poker is a game with incomplete information, thus most of the approaches are complicated and they do not provide correct results most of the time. The goal of this work is to describe some of the theoretical approaches and implement some of them. To this end, a poker server and poker AI agents using some of the solutions were implemented. These agents were tested against each other to compare the performance of the different approaches to artificial intelligence in Texas hold'em poker.
NetHack Bot Framework
Krajíček, Jan ; Gemrot, Jakub (advisor) ; Mráz, František (referee)
Previous attempts at implementing bots for the classic roguelike game NetHack have been hindered by many problems related to its complexity and console-based interface. The framework implemented as part of this work solves the problem of interfacing with the game and provides a programmer-friendly API for the Java and Clojure programming languages. It enables programming sophisticated bots using the provided model of the game world, a library of possible actions and utilities for various aspects of the game. The framework uses elements of functional and logic programming and doesn't require modifications of the game. Also described is an implementation of the first NetHack bot capable of winning the game. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Philosophical and Psychological Aspects of Free Will. The Free Will and Responsibility
Stanková, Eva ; Kosek, Jan (advisor) ; Ondřejková, Jana (referee)
The question of free will, determinants of free action and responsibility is one of the most thrilling questions of the mankind. Moreover, the free will problem is closely connected to regulation and hindsight judgement of man behaviour so the law is concerned with the problem as well. However, a legal concept of free will is missing in the Czech law or legal theory. The author is therefore concerned with the fact that there is no satisfactory legal definition of free will even though legal responsibility is impliedly based on free action and free will. The Czech law defines just the freedom of action in negative terms, i.e. as an action of will free from circumstances limiting or precluding legal responsibility. The aim of the thesis is to summarize knowledge of social psychology regarding free will and assess whether the Czech law does impose the right standard of freedom of will in comparison to scientific experiments and findings. Furthermore, there are philosophical theories of free will introduced in the thesis and consequently these theories are questioned and examined for the purpose of defining legal concept of free will. At the end of the psychological part of the thesis one comes to the conclusion that the social determinants such as peer pressure, conformity and obedience to authority...
Reification of the DEECo component model and its application in virtual-world simulations
Forch, Jan ; Bureš, Tomáš (advisor) ; Gemrot, Jakub (referee)
In the domain of dynamically evolving distributed systems composed of autonomous and (self-) adaptive components, the task of systematically managing the design complexity of their communication and composition is a pressing issue. This stems from the dynamic nature of such systems, where components and their bindings may appear and disappear without anticipation. As one way of addressing the challenge, [15] proposes a new component model (called DEECo), which features separation of concerns via a mechanism of dynamic implicit bindings with implicit communication. This leads to introduction of autonomous components and their dynamic interaction groups (called ensembles). The goal of the thesis is to reify the DEECo concepts and paradigms in a Java-based implementation connected to a simulation of a virtual world. As such, the thesis should provide a platform for experimentation with DEECo-based applications.
The passive in Italian and its Czech translations in a parallel corpus
Somrová, Karolína ; Štichauer, Pavel (advisor) ; Špaček, Jiří (referee)
(in English): The aim of this thesis is to theoretically describe the Italian and Czech passive voice constructions and consequently analyse the translations of the Italian passive voice into the Czech language. In the theoretical part the different passive voice constructions will be listed. The focus will be laid upon their use, occurrence and the alternative ways of the passive voice interpretation will be mentioned. The goal of the empirical part will be to analyse the Italian literary works and to find out the frequency of the passive voice used together with the auxiliary venire. Afterwards, it will be compared with the passive voice constructions containing the auxiliary essere. Then the translations of the passive voice into the Czech language will be analysed. The results will be displayed in graphs and tables showing the various ways how the passive voice was translated into the Czech language. The empirical part contains also the comments on the various translation methods.
Agent-based modelling in economics
Hanuš, Jiří ; Raab, Jan (advisor) ; Bejček, Eduard (referee)
In this thesis, we present one view on economic modelling - Agent based modelling and Agent based computational economics, which is computation- ally intensive method that simulates interactions between entities in econ- omy instead of focusing on stable equilibria. We will provide introduction into Complex systems theory, which explains many phenomena we can see in economies and explain why these phenomena make it hard for economists to design models explaining behavior of people in real world. We will show one possible model of face-to-face interactions between consumers and firms and its implementation, where we can see whether it can sustain for a period of time in dynamic but stable state. 1
The Criminal Means of Dealing with Organized Crime
Coufalová, Bronislava ; Jelínek, Jiří (advisor) ; Sváček, Jan (referee) ; Polák, Peter (referee)
Presented dissertation is devoted to the criminal means of dealing with organized crime. Recently the organized crime has undoubtedly belonged to the category of most serious problems that the individual countries, including the Czech Republic, have had to cope with especially in the field of legislature. In our country this phenomenon became more visible after the fall of the totalitarian regime when the borders were opened. This resulted in the boost in the activity of foreign criminal societies and domestic criminal societies consequently. However, at the beginning the Czech legislature did not take any serious action thus providing free space for the organized crime to establish itself in the Czech Republic. It was the intensive calls for an action that would react to the current situation which spurred the legislature to make several more or less crucial changes prevailing up to now. When dealing with the organized crime, the tools of criminal substantive as well as procedural law appear to be the most effective ones. The organized crime as the most serious type of group crime can be effectively dealt with only through specific criminal-law institutes and mechanisms which can adequately fight against this phenomenon as far as revealing the perpetrators, penalizing and finally destroying the...
The general human agent in English and in French (a contrastive view of the French "on")
Železná, Andrea ; Malá, Markéta (advisor) ; Dušková, Libuše (referee)
The subject of this thesis is the analysis of English translation equivalents of the French pronoun on. This 'personal indefinite pronoun' is the typical means of expressing the general human agent in the French language. Unlike French, English does not have any special device for this purpose. It must employ linguistic devices which have other primary functions than the expression of the general human agent. These devices are explicit or implicit; they were described, for example, by Dušková (Dušková 1999) and Kratochvílová (Kratochvílová 2007). A short study of English translation equivalents of generic on was part of Tláskal's paper (Tláskal 2004). However, the pronoun on is not always generic; its reference can also be indefinite or definite. Since this thesis studies the English counterparts of all three types of on, translation devices were also collected of uses other than generic. This study analyses 200 sentences including the French on and their translation counterparts. The material was excerpted from 4 French novels and their translations into English. The 200 examples are divided into 4 groups according to the type of reference their on has: generic, indefinite, definite, or ambiguous. For each group, the English counterparts are studied. They are divided into 3 classes:...
