Gradient Boosting Machine and Artificial Neural Networks in R and H2O
Sabo, Juraj ; Bašta, Milan (advisor) ; Plašil, Miroslav (referee)
Artificial neural networks are fascinating machine learning algorithms. They used to be considered unreliable and computationally very expensive. Now it is known that modern neural networks can be quite useful, but their computational expensiveness unfortunately remains. Statistical boosting is considered to be one of the most important machine learning ideas. It is based on an ensemble of weak models that together create a powerful learning system. The goal of this thesis is the comparison of these machine learning models on three use cases. The first use case deals with modeling the probability of burglary in the city of Chicago. The second use case is the typical example of customer churn prediction in telecommunication industry and the last use case is related to the problematic of the computer vision. The second goal of this thesis is to introduce an open-source machine learning platform called H2O. It includes, among other things, an interface for R and it is designed to run in standalone mode or on Hadoop. The thesis also includes the introduction into an open-source software library Apache Hadoop that allows for distributed processing of big data. Concretely into its open-source distribution Hortonworks Data Platform.

The construction of the risk surcharges for the imbalances trading on OTE market
Maštalíř, Jakub ; Brada, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Blaheta, Petr (referee)
This master thesis approaches the energy markets from the point of view of an electricity trader acting on the retail markets, in particular an electricity supplier to the end customers. The first part introduces the reader into the basic practices applied in the management process of the portfolio of end customers, which includes metering and evaluation of the real take-off, planning and prediction and, of course, final evaluation of the imbalances. Second part explains the principles of balance management in case of the entire ČEPS electrical grid, mechanics of the imbalances settlement and describes its actual setting with focus on the way it motivates the market participants for minimization of their own imbalances and therefore improvement of the overall electrical grid balance. The final part describes the basic construction of the risk surcharges, which the supplier adds to the commodity price to cover the costs caused by the existence of his end customers' imbalances. Furthermore, it is shown how the dependence on the system imbalance influences the size of the risk surcharge and the basic model is extended to include even this factor. Because the supplier does not set the surcharge at the level of individual end customer but for the entire portfolio, the functioning and power of the portfolio effect, which brings an extra savings in the imbalances settlement costs, is also explored in the final part. The possibility of dependence presence in the imbalances of individual end customers is also accounted for. For the first time in the Czech academic literature the economic problems that are faced by the electricity supplier to the end customers are examined and the analysis and solution of one important problem is provided in the full picture. However, the most important contribution of this master thesis lays in the opening of this topic to further examination on the academic ground.

Alfred Jarry: Ubu Roi - Costume Research and Design
Pinkavová, Eleanor ; ZBOŘILOVÁ, Jana (advisor) ; ZÁBRODSKÁ, Dana (referee)
The subject of this thesis is the comprehensive research and design of costumes for the play Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry, including documentation of the creative process from the initial analysis of the play to the final designs. This play was written in the late 19th century and is considered to be a precurser to Surrealism and Theatre of the Absurd. The story is about the brief and tyrannical reign of a hideous, backward individual named Ubu, who comes to power by murdering the Polish king. The play is notable for its rough playfulness, ruthlessness with regard to social and cultural traditions, its open-mindedness and unique use of language. On the surface it comes across as a silly farce, but it contains many deeper undertones that cause Jarry to be sometimes regarded as a symbolist writer. This work is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the author of the play, its content and the context in which it was written, and studies how it was staged in the past. It is not the aim to offer a coherent overview of the life of Alfred Jarry, his work, or the history of past productions of King Ubu. Instead, the information contained here is intended only as a documentation of the historical and theoretical research necessary to understand this work, which ultimately had an impact on the final designs. Part two documents the process of developing the costume designs themselves. Initially it introduces the key considerations that arose from reading the play that affected the overall progress of the work. There follows an analysis of the characters and situations based on the text, and sources of inspiration. The main section describes the final designs of the set and costumes that are supported by attached images.

Network Architecture and Interconnection of Embedded Systems
Trchalík, Roman ; Drábek, Vladimír (referee) ; Srovnal, Vilém (referee) ; Švéda, Miroslav (advisor)
The thesis focuses on the architecture of embedded systems. It summarizes the current state of accepted standards from IEEE 1451 family, which deals with creating an environment for the sensors and their involvement in various networks. These standards describe the open, network-independent communication architecture for a sensor-based system. One of the main outcomes of this work is the architectures presented as case studies, which can be used as design patters for embedded applications. They are demonstrated on ZigBee technology suitable mainly for small devices with very low power consumption. Based on these studies the new design of universal gateway was proposed. Its major advantage is that it allows interconnection of the endpoints based on different sensor network technologies. Additionally, the thesis deals with modifying the routing protocol of ZigBee network in order to reduce power consumption required to transmit one data packet.

The concepts of literary space in the Slovak prose of the 70s of the 20th century
Pátková, Jana ; Chmel, Rudolf (advisor) ; Sabolová, Olga (referee) ; Machala, Lubomír (referee)
The collection of five interpretative essays deals with various concepts of home and its different spaee speeifieations in the officially published prose of the 70s of the last century in Slovakia. Through the analysis of the literary spaee we enter an unfathomed region whose comprehension may also change - to a great extent - the existing sight of the official production of the "normalisation period". When interpreting the individual texts, the emphasis was placed on observing especially the common features of the literary space. That is the reason why even reiterating ehapter titles were chosen (horizontal and vertical forms of the space, open or closed space, transitions points, topos of the journey periphery and forms of border, etc.). By their synthesis we may eome to the eonelusion that the seleeted authors (Dušan Dušek, Július Baleo, Ladislav Ballek and Stanislav Rakús) are arguing especially against the diverse representations of the power through different concepts of the space. Objective of my work is to draw attention to some of the fundamental paradigmatic prineiples ofmodelling the literary spaee in the Slovak prose ofthe 70s. Apart from the thematie escape of the authors into the history, the motif of home and childhood belong to the most discussed problems ofthe beginning of the...

China and India: the comparison of the position in the world economy
Kostiviarová, Jana ; Cihelková, Eva (advisor) ; Zapletal, Petr (referee)
The bachelor's thesis focuses on the comparison of the position of China and India in the world economy. The first part deals with an observation of political and economic development of the two countries. The focus is on political and economic reforms, which contributed to opening of the economies, and thus to opening of the international trade. Economic development is pursued on the basis of the GDP, unemployment and inflation. The second part of the bachelor's thesis provides insight into the international economic relations of China and India. I will use statistics on trade in goods and services, foreign investments and balance of payments. Based on these statistics we will see, if these two states aim to become leaders on the world market. The last part is devoted to the position of China and India in the world economy. It provides insight into the current position, as well as prediction of the future position based on forecasts of countries BRICS. Bachelor's thesis contributes to spread awareness of the position of China and India in the world and to realization that these two states can become, based on several factors, the leading Great powers in the world economy.

Institutional aspects of the democratic deficit: The role of national parliaments in EU matters
Knutelská, Viera ; Plechanovová, Běla (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee) ; Braun, Mats Rickard (referee)
This dissertation deals with institutional aspects of the democratic deficit of the European Union, particularly the powers of national parliaments and their capabilities to influence decision-making at the European level. The national parliaments' role in European integration became an interesting research area thanks to their greater involvement in the EU affairs in the last twenty years. However, because of the many developments of the European integration in the last twenty years (including both deepening and broadening of integration), many questions remain open. These include involvement of national parliaments both on European level and on national level; for obvious reasons, the latter has been studied less regarding the parliaments of the Member States that joined the Union in 2004 and 2007. While this dissertation deals with some aspects of the work of national parliaments of all Member States, more detailed studies are devoted to the cases of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. This dissertation poses questions in the three main areas of research that are all devoted to some practical aspects of national parliaments' involvement in European affairs. First, it examines the involvement of national parliaments at the European level and whether national parliaments do have the...

Quantitative easing and its impact on Czech economy
Řehák, Martin ; Petrášek, František (advisor) ; Misic, Viktorija (referee)
The master thesis analyses potential impacts of introduction of the quantitative easing by the Czech National Bank as a new monetary instrument in the Czech Republic, which would be used as a means of fight against the economic cycle. Instruments which a central bank can use in the area of monetary policy become limited in the era of major interest rates inclining to zero. Power of conventional means becomes insufficient. As a result, more and more central banks consider introduction of a relatively new instrument -- quantitative easing which is applied e.g. by the FED or the ECB at present. The main goal of the thesis is to assess advantages and disadvantages of introduction of quantitative easing by the Czech National Bank and its ability to influence the economic cycle when basic principles of quantitative easing are applied on a real small opened economy. The output should present analysis and assessment of costs and benefits arising from introduction of quantitative easing. Actual data from the economies, where the quantitative easing has been applied, are analyzed in the thesis. The results of the analysis are used as a basis for creation of a simple universal model of functioning of quantitative easing which is after customizing according to specifics of the Czech economy, applied to the Czech Republic. Three possible scenarios of development of economy after introduction of quantitative easing by the CNB were developed on the basis of the model which differs from each other as they relate to a different phase of economic cycle.

Water Courses and Areas in Municipalities - Revitalization and Other Usage Possibilities
Panchártková, Jana
In this time we can see the tendency of refreshing of public places in the cities by renewal of water elements in our surroundings. Again waterworks, fountains, etc. appear in the cities. In many cities it happen to realisation of new water elements and to reconstruction of the current one, but also the revitalisation of the water streams surrounding and water streams themselves happens. These are steps due to them the cities get better living environment, attractive places for recreation and last but not least better protection against the flooding. In regard of the economical situation the country seats don’t have the same opportunity as the cities. In spite of that the country space shouldn’t be leave out. The water streams and pools, those are dilapidated or uncared very often, present the same unimproved potential and also the risks as for the cities. So the space for design of interesting solutions opens here. Such, as can influence the living environment of the villages positively and by the right coordination with the modifications in the cities can support increasing of efficiency of flood-protection working.
