Selected methodological approaches of the localization of wind power stations in the landscape
Frantál, Bohumil ; Kallabová, Eva ; Nováková, Eva
Geographical-sociological concept of wind energy problems solving (evaluation of spatial relations, environmental aspects and social context by the means of GIS) offers comprehensive approach and enables synthesis of environmental and social aspects, which is necessary for wider evaluation of the suitability of specific locality for wind energy development. Analysis of the spatial relationships in the landscape is necessary in decision making process of suitability or unsuitability. GIS (Geographic Information System) as a basic analytical tool helps to predict which areas have or do not have potential for wind energy development and determines the rate of the potential. Physical-geographical conditions with environmental and social aspects present the main criteria of suitability or unsuitability of the given locality. An analytic framework using GIS allows to develop the exact model which will demonstrate suitable locations and land available for possible wind power development.

Nuclear power plant of Temelín is a phenomenon influencing almost all aspects of life of local population. The article is based on comparison of selected results gained within two sociological surveys, one conducted in the year of 1993 and the other in 2003. Relation of local population to the nuclear power plant was one of key issues addressed in both surveys. Perception of the nuclear power plant proved to have changed over time. The shift can be named „from danger to anxiety“. The main factor keeping population anxious about nuclear power plant seem to be a fact that the plant is visible from everywhere, representing thus „visual contamination of environment“ of some kind.
