"Folklorní mejdlo": Contemporary Folklorism in Prague

Prague as space, inside of which music of various genres is being created and performed, linked to different values, being created on foundations of distinct concepts and serving as a medium of various strategies, is characterized by fluid and difficult to grasp soundscape (Shellemay 2006). This environment allows the creation and negotiation of traditions (Glassie 1995), moving into different directions. One of them, which have a recursive character and serves its actors as the construction of meaning and carrying out sociocultural change for its actors, is connected with the concept of folklore. The presented fieldwork examines this part of contemporary Prague soundscape in the field, framed by one of the music and dance events. The regular event, named by the organizers "Folklorní mejdlo", defines itself as a connection of the world of modernity, which is currently offered in the metropolis, and the world of traditions, authenticity and folklore. The fieldwork aims its focus on the way the concepts of authenticity and legitimacy are negotiated, its assigning to individual actors and objects and generally how the actors of the event undertake the construction of folklore and how the final product looks like. Britannic folklore in Anatole Le Braze's La Légende de la Mort chez les Bretons Armoricains

This thesis aims to introduce the readers to characteristic aspects of britannic folklore and to try to trace them afterwards in the book La Légende de la mort chez les Bretons armoricains by Anatole Le Braz. To this purpose is used a typology of three chosen characters, namely the character of death Ankou, night laundress and rector. On the basis of the analysis it is possible to remark the influence of those aspects on popular tellings. Firstly the thesis presents the author and his life. Then it briefly shows important historical events that led to britannic renaissance, in other words to the time, when Anatole Le Braz lived and wrote his books. The following parts concentrate on cultural interferences of Celtic and Christian faith and on extraordinary strong state of Death. The main part of the thesis consists of chapters dedicated to the description of Ankou, night laundress and rector, including analysis of some legends, in which those characters are situated. The last chapter refers to the contemporary response of britannic folklore in contemporary culture.
Rancho Folclórico - Musical Heritage of Portugal

Thesis is dedicated to traditional folklore music of Portugal and introduces different kinds of traditional music. Chosen are those kinds that are even nowadays very popular and that are to be found around the country. The main focus of thesis is on music and tradition of folklore groups called Rancho Folclórico. History of Portuguese traditional music in general as well as the origins of rancho are introduced. Those are connected to the context of general Portuguese history. Furthermore, traditional musical instruments typical for rancho groups are described as well as the musical repertoire and traditional dances. The character of rancho groups, their members, rehearsals, costumes and festivals the groups preform in are closely examined. Final chapter introduces concrete activities and ideas for utilization of Portuguese traditional music in pedagogical practice. Thesis is also based on information obtained from interviews with current members of variant rancho groups. Hereafter, appendix is attached to thesis consisting mainly of photographs and video recordings taken personally by the author in Lisbon.
Customs and traditions of Moravian Slovakia and their role in tourism

This bachelor thesis is focused on ethnographic region of the Czech Republic - Moravian Slovakia. The aim is to determine the importance of respecting traditions and folklore for tourism, and how knowledgeable the citizens of the Czech Republic are about Moravian Slovakia and its customs. The theoretical part deals with basic tourism terms, characteristics of tourism in the Czech Republic and with cultural heritage. The analytical part defines the researched area and analyses its features suitable for tourism. Crux of the thesis is an evaluation of author's own survey and suggestions for the future.
Reflection of the Moravian Slovakia‘s folklore in the collections of the Museum of Czech Literature and a proposal for its presentation

This Thesis discusses the mapping and documentation of the folklore of Moravian Slovakia and traditional folk culture in collections of the Museum of Czech Literature. The collections of this culture government organization have never been researched from this point of view before. The thesis findings reveal that a great number of archives oriented on folkloric rich ethnographic region of Moravian Slovakia have been found in the collections of the Museum of Czech Literature, specifically in the three following departments of the museum: Literary Archive, Art Collections, and Library. The vast majority of the found materials come from the 19th century and first half of the 20th century. The archives are composed of a wide range of materials, such as manuscripts, typescripts, photography, cuttings, printings, drawings, lithography, graphics, sculptures, paintings, publications, periodicals, bibliophile books. The found materials belong to the traditional folk culture, as far as high art and culture. The outcome of this study is a proposal for the exhibition project Slovácko! which is intended to illustrate possible ways how to propagate and present the explored artifacts and archive materials from the collections. Drafts of financial sources, staffing, concept of the exhibition and graphic solution of some promotional designs are included in the proposal.
Work of Bedřich Václavek in historical-sociological perspective

Master's thesis describes the work of BedřichVáclavek in historical and sociological perspective. BedřichVáclavek was leading Marxist theorist, critic, esthetician, Germanist and folklorist. Its individual parts are treated at this thesis, like the evidence of his intellectual transformations over time. Emphasis is placed on a chronological line, which is accompanied by Václavek's work (criticism, theories, reflections, contributions in journals, collections and letter-writer). Thesis focuses primarily on summarizing on his work, where it comes to transitions from one artistic direction of a second, while takes into account the historical background reflecting the social situation on which Václavek responds. Theses tried to offer a comprehensive view of the versatility of Václavek's works, but also for his detailed biography, especially from birth and throughout the study (until 1922), which is the period when constructing patriotic thoughts and relationship to folklore. Transformation of Trickster in Contemporary Russian Children's Folklore

The theme of this thesis is the transformation of a trickster figure in the Russian children's folklore. The first part is devoted to an analysis of trickster tale and trickster heroes. This section is primarily based on classic works of prominent ethnologists, anthropologists and folklorists - they are mainly the works of Claude Lévi-Strauss, Vladimir Propp, Jeleazar Meletinskij and many others. This section is concerned mainly on the systematization and analysis of the classic characteristics of a hero trickster for subsequent analysis and comparison of the current hero of the sadistic poems - the little boy. The second part is an introduction to the themes of the sadistic poems - it is dedicated to the history of their origin; historical, cultural and social factors that had an impact on their development; systemization of the sadistic poems by topics and trends. This part is based on the works of Russian anthropologists, folklorists and psychologists. The third part of my work is dedicated to an independent comparative analysis of the nature of the protagonist of the sadistic poems - the boy as a trickster figure. Ethics and heroism in oral tradition of Montenegrian national movement

This work focuses on the description and comparison of the main characters and their characteristics associated with Montenegrin national movement, as reflected in the collective oral creation, especially prose and song folklore. Special emphasis will be placed on the ethical dimension of the characters and events and a summary of the moral-ethical qualities traditionally associated with them.
