Kovářová, Pavla ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kučera, Štěpán (referee)
Bachelor thesis "A comparative analysis of cover pages of magazines Respekt and Reflex in the period of 2009 - 2010 (textual and semiotic comparison)" deals with semiotic analysis of the cover pages of two similar weekly magazines in the same period. Research sample includes five covers of each magazine which shows Czech political figures. The first part of this thesis it describes the theoretical essence of semiotics. The second one is about magazines and theory of cover. In practical part analyses the covers of both magazines with the aim of overall comparison in terms of their communicating intentions, construction of reality and its work with myths and stereotypes. Visual and language codes are studied in terms of denotation, connotation and implied postmodern myths. In the recent media discursus has been interpreting signs and symbols, decoding the hidden meanings and perceptions of the dominant ideology in the construct of reality. Attention is focused on the design of Reflex' photomontage and Respekt's drawing, as well as on composition, colors and using stereotypes. Result of analysis shows a consistent approach of both magazines to the dominant ideology, but a different approach to construct reality and creating the communication plan, which comes just from the way of processing.

Image codecs based on the wavelet transform
Kiska, Tomáš ; Říha, Kamil (referee) ; Rajmic, Pavel (advisor)
This bachelor´s thesis describes issues of wavelet compression, which is today already in common use mainly at work with digital photographs or other pictures. Using these algorithm you can copy informations and save efficiently. There are main image formats and types of compression suitable for editing pictures desribed in this thesis. So the focus is on discrete wavelet transform, which uses so-called wavelets, the Haar´s and Daubechies wavelet are the best known of all. Next chapter of this work explores colour spaces, in which can be a picture displayed. In case of coding and encoding it is model RGB and YCbCr. Not least there is mentioned term of picture decomposition. At the end, there are image codecs EZW, SPITH and EBCOT which are describe in detail.

Strecker, Zbyněk ; Fiedler, Petr (referee) ; Bradáč, Zdeněk (advisor)
The main goal of this work is to design an efficient and cheap car-alarm with an electricity consumption not exceeding 1mA in the stand-by mode. The first part focuses on the conception of the car-alarm. As the best option - GPS/GSM car-alarm conception is chosen. Then the design of the switching power supply, communication via RS232 with the GSM module, and GPS module, I2C communication with accelerometer and timer IC, and design of the display module are described. Furthermore, the process of how to code/decode sms into the PDU format is also discussed in this part. The second part provides some basic empirical characteristics of the switching power supply (efficiency, switching frequency etc.). Then the owchart of the main loop is explained, followed by an example of the sms which the car-alarm sends in case a car theft. Explanation of how to set up timer, acceleration threshold and the time between the check of the sms commads is the subject of the next section. Fifth part deals with the installation the car-alarm into a car which is illustrated on the Skoda Favorit example. Total costs and also different cost items are listed just before concluding and suggesting some potential improvements of the device.

Wireless Security and Surveillance System
Výborný, Jiří ; Frýza, Tomáš (referee) ; Prokopec, Jan (advisor)
This Master’s thesis deals with design and construction of a wireless security and surveillance system in ZigBee wireless networks (IEEE802.15.4). The design consists of creating a star network topology with intended monitoring of home area via end device boards paired with coordinator board, which provides basic networking functionality. End device is used to send data from a temperature sensor DS1631 and magnetic reed switches to coordinator. ZigBee module ZDM-A1281-A2 made by MeshNetics company embedded on each board contains a micro controller ATMega1281 and a transceiver AT86RF230 working in a 2,4GHz frequency band. System is able to notice of any door or window move actions and too high temperature. The non-fully functional ZigBee stack, which is called an Open MAC software, based on MAC (Media Access Control ) layer and PHY (Physical) layer from MeshNetics, has been used to develop the user software. Open MAC consists of three application samples in C code. One of them was modified by the user for an application of communication between the module and sensors. The same design with module RC2204AT made by Radiocrafts company was tested as well, but it couldn’t be executed. All developed boards have been constructed and tested via Terminal PC program.

Methods and Tools for Image and Video Quality Assessment

Comparison of Large Alphabet Compression Methods
Kuthan, Tomáš ; Lánský, Jan (advisor) ; Majerech, Vladan (referee)
Text compression over alphabet of words or syllables brings up a new concern to deal with - the alphabet needs to be transferred between coder and decoder along with the message. Especially with small or middle-sized documents the code of the alphabet forms a signi cant part of the resulting le. Therefore it is desirable to represent the alphabet as dense as possible. The topic of this thesis is a comparison of three approaches to large alphabet compression - static, semiadaptive and adaptive approach. Moreover the potential of static initialization of adaptive methods with frequent words is analyzed. Furthermore a new and highly eff ective method for compression of a set of strings is introduced.

The thesis is supplemented with several programs which are programmed in the software Matlab.

Yemen Jews - Religion, Culture, Traditions and Customs
Nepalová, Ivana ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Biernot, David (referee)
The Sages say "from three things our father's were delivered from Egypt: they did not change their names, their tongue (language) and there dress." Tradition records that the Yemenite Jewish community was first established by King Solomon over 3000 years ago. Yemenite Jewry is a window into Jewish people's past. Yemenites have many customs, traditions, foods, clothing, and language that clearly make them unique from the general divisions of world Jewry like Ashkenazic or Sephardic. For instance, Yemenites are the only members of world Jewish community who base their religious legal code on Moses Maimondes' opus magnum the Mishna Torah. Moreover, Maimonides, or more commonly know by his acronym the Rambam, with his logical and rational approach to the Bible is the adopted hero for Yemenite Jewry. On the other hand, Yemenite Jewry maintains many ancient superstitions which at first glance appear to contradict Rambam's approach. However, Yemenites have been able to strike a balance between their superstitions and Rambam's rationalism and to build a harmony in their lives. It this ability to harmonize seemingly unbridgeable differences which first attracted me to the study Yemenite Jewry.

Signal Processing for UHF RFID Reader
Novotný, Jan ; Zamazal, Michal (referee) ; Povalač, Aleš (advisor)
The master’s thesis is focused on the UHF RFID reader EXIN-1 signal processing. The first part describes the concept of the EXIN-1 front end, its basic testing and possible communication interfaces for reader control and for receiving and transmitting baseband signals. The second part of this work is aimed to a simple description of EPCglobal Class-1 Generation-2 UHF RFID Protocol, especially to used modulations and codings. In the last part, a block connection between the front end and an ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller discovery board is designed. The microcontroller is used for generating of all required signals and also for receiving incoming signals and processing them for identification numbers of RFID cards (tags), which are in the reading range of the reader. A decoding algorithm is designed in MATLAB software and implemented to the selected microcontroller. Obtained identification data are displayed on an LCD display and also sent to a PC through a serial communication.
