The fight against terrorism at a national and international level
HOLUB, Michal
Terrorism is a modern and constantly developing problem which has been threatening and noticeably affecting the protected interests and built-up values of states. Terrorist groups strive to spread fear, violence, opinions, and ideas to reach their goals through attacks on the population. Today, even countries that have not faced this threat yet, are confronted with this problem. Modern trends and new technologies along with the migration crisis cause that we face this threat in our homes more than ever before. The upraise of The Islamic State can be considered as a phenomenon of today, which has infected practically whole world and gives a space to various individuals to commit terrorist attacks under the auspices of this organization, or just provides instructions on committing such acts for any reason and with different aims. It is necessary to respond adequately to this threat, and it is necessary not to remain only with regret after every terrorist attack. It is essential to monitor the latest trends in terrorist attacks same as fighting against them, which in consequence will help us to set up operational procedures how to deal with these kind of incidences. There is also a need for a strong political spectrum which understands that these measures will never be profitable or popular, however its necessary it keeps supporting them.
Trump's campaign promises to fight terrorism and its following implementation in the first two years in the office
Bohunická, Klára ; Hornát, Jan (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
In my bachelor thesis, I tried to answer my main hypothesis, which was that presidential candidates give many promises during their campaigns and they are not able to fulfill them after taking the office because of missing competences. Sometimes it is not even technically possible. I tried to apply this theory on the campaign of Donald Trump, especially on three promises that were focused on fighting terrorism in the United States. To achieve my goal I examined the promises Trump gave during tha campaign. After that I focused on the steps taken by Trump since his inauguration in January 2017 until the middle of his term in January 2019. The first promise I focused on was "closing parts of the internet where ISIS is". The only one step Trump did in this area was signing a statement in which he and the G7 leaders called for intensifying the pressure from social media to combat online terrorism. From a technical point of view, this promise has been problematic from the beginning. The first problem was the fact that Trump did not have sufficient competence to fulfill it. Second problem was the first amendment to the US Constitution. It protects freedom of speech and closing parts of the Internet would disrupt these freedoms. Thanks to this promise I have confirmed my hypothesis that candidates during...
Security Policy of Neutral States After 9/11: Comparison of Selected European Countries
Vlček, Tomáš ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bahenský, Vojtěch (referee)
This bachelor's thesis compares Switzerland, Austria and Sweden as European neutral states and their activity in security policy. There are two dimensions for the comparison: peacekeeping dimension and counter-terrorism dimension. The time interval begins with the terrorist 9/11 attacks and continues to the present. In peacekeeping dimension the main focus is on contribution of units to peacekeeping missions. In counter-terrorism dimension the main focus is on strategy of global war on terror and strategy of combating terrorism. The result of this thesis is either confirmation or refutation of hypothesis about relationship between attitude to neutrality and activity in security policy. The assumption of this comparative study is that state with codified neutrality which is also mentioned in its foreign-security strategy is less active than state with non-codified neutrality not mentioned in its foreign-security strategy.

Aplikace poznatků z Rudých brigád v boji proti globálnímu terorismu
Lagazzi, Alexandr ; Eichler, Jan (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
This Bachelor thesis seeks to analyse the rise and fall of the Red Brigades within the wave of Italian political terrorism in order to suggest the application of findings onto global terrorism, while working on three hypotheses. First, the thesis implies that features of multiple phases of terrorism are present in the life-span of the Italian left-wing terrorist organization. Secondly, within the dismantling of the Red Brigades, the role of the State is regarded as substantial (combined with internal conflicts). Lastly, upon the outlined analyses, the findings are deemed to be applicable onto the phase of global terrorism. Through mapping the activities of the Red Brigades and subjecting the major attacks to an analysis through the theoretical definitions of terrorism, the author seeks to draw conclusion mainly by a synthesis of the communicative strategy, psychological impact and state reaction(s) to terrorism. Concluding, the thesis suggests some key findings, regarded as effective tools of fight against Italian terrorism, to be applied onto global terrorism.
Global terrorism from the constructivist perspective: Human mind as a security factor
Fajmonová, Veronika ; Lehmannová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Kratochvíl, Petr (referee) ; Chytilek, Roman (referee)
The aim of this dissertation is to examine the process of securitization of terrorism, to develop the role of the audience (public) at the individual level and subsequently to provide recommendations on an alternative way of fighting terrorism. In order to achieve this goal, the author uses socially constructivist securitization theory, critical terrorism studies and political psychology, namely cognitive and social psychology. Throughout the chapters, the securitization process of terrorism is explored; terrorism as a (to a certain extent) objective problem, further, from the point of view of critical terrorism studies, the security measures are assessed and public opinion is examined through public opinion polls. The author comes to the conclusion that public opinion is one of the key factors in implementing extensive security measures. Therefore, she further examines the factors that affect public opinion; the narrative, the role of the media, and ultimately the psychological processes influencing the perception of reality. It turns out that the narrative about terrorism and the media have their share in the public reaction to terrorism, but the role of the audience in the securitization process of terrorism is not fully explained and there are the psychological processes that illuminate it. Therefore, by running an experiment, the author examines the effect of three narratives about terrorism, based on psychological theories. It concludes that there is a potential for reducing the public's fears and thus the alternative fight against terrorism.
