Ethical dimension of stigma and discrimination of people with psychotic disease and impact of social work at its alleviation.

The thesis deals with the problem of discrimination and stigmatization of people with a psychotic illness, its ethical as well as legal dimension and the specificity of social work with this target group. The thesis consists of five chapters. In chapter I. I briefly define health and illness in general and the specifics of mental health and mental disorders. In chapter II. I describe psychotic illness in general i.e. formation, symptoms and manifestation, treatment and I also shortly introduce particular types of psychotic illnesses. In chapter III. I specialize in the application of ethics in social work and in ethical and legal problems in psychiatry. Chapter IV. deals with the specifics of discrimination and stigmatization of people with a psychotic illness. I present the most frequent areas in which discrimination occurs, consequences which are caused by discrimination and stigmatization, activities leading to their moderation and legal standards that are supposed to aim at the prevention of discrimination and ensure the protection of rights for mentally ill people. I ethically reflect these issues. Chapter IV. is concerned with the specifics of social work with people suffering from a psychotic illness. I describe how to work with such a target group, I introduce methods of social work helping clients with a psychotic illness to function socially, to integrate into the society and reduce the impact of stigmatization and discrimination.
The arteterapy of people with mental illnes. The casuistry of client

The aim of this thesis is to present in the general part of the thesis in the context of other mental disorders of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder and related problems of dual diagnosis. The arteteraphy section will present the artistic expression of people with the above-mentioned mental disorders. The possibilities of artetherapeutic approach to these target groups will be described, based in particular on Eva Syřišťová's texts. Conclusion of the theoretical part is devoted to the demands of the personality of a therapist working with people with mental disorder. In the practical part are presented two case reports of clients, where different arteterapeutical approaches were applied and their own therapeutic practice was reflected.
Employment of people with mental disorders

This thesis deals with an issue of employment of people with mental disorders. The goal of thesis is to describe and to map mental disorders and to point out their maladaptive behaviors. Also to show possibilities of communication in working environment with people with mental disorders and to highlight opportunities of employment in the labor market. The issue is subsequently evaluated with use of questionnaire surveys and interviews with experts in the topic. The thesis is divided into two parts, in theoretical part are explained concepts related to mental illnesses and in practical part is described cooperation with organization Green Doors.
Suicidality in CZ as public policy problem and prevention options

Suicide rate is above EU average in Czechia. At the same time, no initiative trying to solve this problem exist. Aim of this thesis is suggest content of suicide prevention policy suitable for Czech environment. Author adopts optics of evidence-based policy approach and in line with this, meta- review (systematic review of systematic reviews; MR) and group discussion were conducted. MR identified 73 potentially effective interventions, 47 (64%) of these were recommended for assessment for Czech context. These interventions were critically reviewed by seven experts and discussion resulted in set of comments and other relevant outputs. Results of MR and group discussion were then put together in relation to broader context and in this sense they represent optimal basis for complex suicide prevention policy in Czechia.

Stigmatization of patients with mental illness

This bachelor's work looks into stigma as a mark of difference. It is specifically targeted on stigmatization of mentally ill people. The aim of this work is to find out which factors affect position of mentally ill people in Czech society and also to find out in what amount is the stigmatization present. Theoretical part of the work contains basic information about mental illnesses and stigmatization in connection with them. It discusses summary of history and describes creation of negative stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination in connection with stigmatization. Next issue of this work is sorting of stigmatization by several criterions. Practical part of the work is a way to get answers to research questions whose target is to find out, how certain individual with mental defect or illness perceive position of mentally ill people and their potential stigmatization. Analysis of six half-constructed interviews is inseparable part of this work and it provided crucial information to this study. In the last part we are given answers to the research questions. FOKUS Tábor and intervention of people with mental diseases

This thesis deals with the problem how social services offered by FOKUS Tábor are effective in terms of subjective quality of life of their clients. The theoretical part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to mental illness - classification, symptoms, treatment limitations, which cause mental illness, and life perspective of people with mental illness. The second chapter discusses the quality of life, its assessment and measurement, as well as the factors influencing the quality of life and the quality of life of people with mental illness and the possibilities of its increase. The last chapter deals with the association FOKUS Tábor - characteristics, mission, history and present of the association, its objectives and principles, the services offered and characteristics of the target group. The aim of the study is to determine what role FOKUS Tábor has in improving quality of life of its clients with mental illness. Achieving this goal is realized by interviews with clients of FOKUS Tábor, during which it focuses primarily on how they perceive intervention of the association, thus the efficiency of social services offered. Stigma toward people with mental illness

Stigmatization of people with mental illness has negative impact on quality of their life. There are few Czech studies focusing on stigma, but they rather focus only on one element of the problem. Aim of this thesis is to identify level of stigma in the Czech Republic and its socio- demographic predictors. This knowledge will help when choosing target groups for stigma reducing campaign. Thesis focuses on three elements of stigma - problems in knowledge, attitudes and behaviour. Four datasets are used - one from survey conducted within this theses, one from CVVM and two from INRES, which were conducted for NUDZ. Standardised research tools were used to measure knowledge (MAKS scale), attitudes (CAMI scale), behaviour (RIBS scale) and social distance. Predictors were identified using multivariate linear regression analysis. When comparing level of stigma among three elements, behaviour has the highest level and knowledge has the lowest level. Higher level of stigma in knowledge and attitudes is associated with being a male, lower education level and smaller size of residence. Higher level of stigma in behaviour is related to higher age, region and previous contact with person with mental illness. Religious Interpretation of Psychotic Illness. How do Christian orientated patients understand their illness?

This thesis deals with religious interpretations of psychotic illness. In the theoretical part, the psychotic disorder is first briefly defined and several stimulating psychological interpretations are outlined. An overview of the history of the relationship of psychology and religion follows. The next chapter summarizes some religious interpretations of psychosis. The focus of the work is on the research part. It is a psychological qualitative research, which shows how three Christian-oriented mentally ill women with psychotic symptoms interpret their own illness. The case studies are then compared in a separate chapter, entailing a slight generalization of the results. At the end there is a reflection on the limitations of the research.
