Annotated translation: Nightmares and Wonders

The aim of the first part of this thesis is to translate the introduction of the book Investigating Farscape called Nightmares and Wonders. The second part contains a commentary of this translation. It focuses on the analysis of the source text, its principle problems for translation, on description of the applied method of translation and finally on shifts that occurred in the translation.
Application of text-optimizing techniques and their influence on adequate text comprehension

This dissertation describes a research aimed at finding text-optimization techniques which would increase the comprehension and better the attitudes of the readers towards the text. The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of these techniques considering the possibility of implementation into the text-production process of state and commercial institutions. The theoretical basis for text comprehension is the construction of mental representations of the text. Many factors, internal and external, can influence the construction of a correct mental representation of the text. This thesis researches the factors of text quality and attitudes towards the text. Effects of the same text manipulations of Slovak and Dutch texts were observed in three language groups. These were: a group of Slovak native speakers, Dutch native speakers and people who learned Dutch as a foreign language. For this research two texts were selected, namely the instructions provided with the tax declaration form and an instruction manual provided with a digital camera. The final thesis Analysis of Language Means in the "Objev" section of the "Magazín DNES" magazine is focused on detailed analyses of language means in "Objev". The beginning part of that work applies to all aspects of the journalistic texts and their origins. It is based on publications of well-known theorists who wrote about journalistic texts in their books. Practical part of the thesis is based on analyses of concrete texts of section "Objev". It solves different language levels, especially lexical level, morphological level, syntactic and phonetic level. Photos are an inseparable part of researched texts. They give some special meaning to them. The final thesis provides complex characteristic of whole Thursday´s newspaper´ s supplement and indicates trends of development of the magazine in the period in which researched texts come from. The thesis is not divided into the theoretical and practical parts so strictly. The theoretical explanation is followed by the practical part with examples. The thesis is separated by chapters for better orientation.
Digital Library Information Retrieval

This thesis deals with methods of information retrieval. Firstly, it describes models of information retrieval and methods of retrieval evaluation. Then it brings closer the principles of the input text processing for IR with use of stopword list and stemmer. Furthermore, it shows the way of the query expansion with synonyms using the thesaurus, methods of handling phrases appearance in queries and introduces the idea of ranking documents by the degree of phrase occurrence similarity in documents. In the second part of this thesis is described the design of whole IR system with using vector model, query expansion with synonyms and phrases handling. This system has been implemented in C# as the application for retrieving and administration of the documents in digital libraries. The effectiveness of this system has been evaluated at the end of this thesis by several tests.
Advanced Songbook for Mobile Devices

This Thesis describes all way from design and implementation to release and advertising of songbook application for Android operation system. The most important goal of the app is the ability to modify lyrics in such way, that they can be viewed flawlessly even on small screens of mobile devices. Application also features many other functions mostly useful for guitar players. User can download lyrics of song with chords directly from app and set up automatic scrolling with different speed for each part of the song. Thesis also describes other important aspects of application development, like user testing and final app release.
Big Data in technologies from IBM

This diploma thesis presents Big Data technologies and their possible use cases and applications. Theoretical part is initially focused on definition of term Big Data and afterwards is focused on Big Data technology, particularly on Hadoop framework. There are described principles of Hadoop, such as distributed storage and data processing, and its individual components. Furthermore are presented the largest vendors of Big Data technologies. At the end of this part of the thesis are described possible use cases of Big Data technologies and also some case studies. The practical part describes implementation of demo example of Big Data technologies and it is divided into two chapters. The first chapter of the practical part deals with conceptual design of demo example, used products and architecture of the solution. Afterwards, implementation of the demo example is described in the second chapter, from preparation of demo environment to creation of applications. Goals of this thesis are description and characteristics of Big Data, presentation of the largest vendors and their Big Data products, description of possible use cases of Big Data technologies and especially implementation of demo example in Big Data tools from IBM.
Transformace organizace na Social Business

Social networks like Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn offer the opportunity to communicate and collaborate with friends and family in our personal life through the social technology without seeing each other on daily bases. This different approach is already common to be used for the majority of people and brings new benefits to now-a-day global environment. The same users of these external social networks are working in companies with various internal collaboration and communication tools. This fact has become stimulus for the theory of using social network technologies inside of the organization called Social Business. Social Business brings multiple new benefits for the organization, which were not possible to be gain through the previous approaches of communication and collaboration. In the present work we study the process of transforming organization into Social Business.
A Linguistic Analysis of a Baroque Text

The topic of this bachelor thesis is an analysis of four baroque writings from the first quarter of the 18th century, with a special focus on verbs, their forms, meanings and usage. The analysed writings are Sláva kostela Vyšehradského by Jan Florián Hammerschmid, the sermons Čtrnácte pomocníků by Colmann Hendl and Kníže Pokoje by František Jan Svoboda and finally the symbolic interpretation of the Plzeň?s history Koráb Noëmový by Adam Kratochvile. The thesis is divided into the theoretical part containing the interpretation of the period language norm based on several grammar books and the practical part. The verbs of the mentioned baroque writing are analysed in the scope of phonetics, morfology, lexicology and syntax. The acquired results are compared with the period theoretical principles contained in grammars. The goal of the bachelor thesis is the general evaluation of verb forms? period usage.
Form and Frequency of the Expression of Subject in Spanish and Czech Non-Literary Texts

The purpose of this Diploma Thesis is to describe very clearly the form and frequency of the subject in Spanish non-literary texts in comparison with Czech. The Thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical passage is focused on description and characterization of Czech and Spanish subjects, based on particular representative grammars. I have used primarily The Hand Grammar of Czech Language for a description of the subject in Czech texts and to describe the subject in Spanish I have especially used The New Grammar of Spanish. Further theoretical chapters of the Thesis are focused on word order and journalistic style. The practical part contains the results of analysis of the form and frequency of the subject in non-literary texts. The result of these analysis helps us to compare all occurrences of researched languages. Summary in Spanish makes part in the end of this Thesis.
