Kwiczalová, Krystyna ; Kudláčková, Zděnka (advisor) ; Herink, Josef (referee)
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this dissertation was to compare the efficiency of an insulin pump and an intensified insulin regime on atherosclerosis markers - especially the lipid spectrum in patients with diabetes mellitus. INTRODUCTION: Diabetes mellitus is an illness developing in an increasing number of persons. The aim of diabetes mellitus type 1 treatment is to compensate the symptoms of this pathology in an effort to postpone or reduce the complications of the illness. In diabetes patients, complications connected with atherosclerosis are very common. These consequences of diabetes become the most common cause of death of patients. The insulin pump and the intensified insulin regime are strategies with the help of which doctors attempt to influence the development of complications associated with diabetes. The choice between these two procedures is still under heated discussion. METHODS: At work we compared 50 patients treated with the insulin pump and 50 who had an intensified insulin regime. We compared the lipid spectrum, glycosylated hemoglobin, BMI, number of insulin units per day, and complications in both groups. We also studied the connection between this illness and diseases of the thyroid gland, or smoking. We compared the possible differences based on gender. MAIN FINDINGS: We did...

Ondrášek, Jakub ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Chalupský, Petr (referee)
This MA thesis deals with the masculine identity of the three main male characters of Chuck Palahniuk's early novels Fight Club, Survivor and Choke. It consists of two parts. The first theoretical part briefly explores anthropological and sociological notions of masculinity, with the focus on the manhood in the contemporary USA. As such it serves as the theoretical basis for the second part of literary interpretation. There the masculine identity of the three main characters is discussed. As all the three characters experience the same development of masculine identity, the interpretation advances along this progress. Its stages are identity crisis, turning to the traditional male strategies, rejecting those strategies and searching the basis of one's identity in a personal relationship.

Neophobia, neophilia, and dietary conservatism in birds
Beranová, Eliška ; Hotová Svádová, Kateřina (referee) ; Exnerová, Alice (advisor)
Birds` reactions towards novelty are demonstrated by two significant processes - neophobia and neophilia. These reactions often vary according to specific type of novel stimulus. Differences in levels of neophobia and neophilia enable birds to deal with potential costs and benefits arising from encountering a novel stimulus. Reactions towards novelty in birds may vary between different species as well as within them. In between species variability in levels of neophobia/neophilia may be related to dietary strategy and lifestyle. Differences in neophobia/neophilia of an individual bird may be related to sex, age, and personality. Long-term avoidance of novel food - dietary conservatism may follow the initial food neophobia. Again it varies a lot between species as well as within them. Key words: neophobia, neophilia, dietary conservatism, novel stimulus, novel object, novel food

Theoretical part deals with definition, prevalence, functions, course, risk factors and possibilities of prevention and therapy of self-harm. There are also mentioned findings about family system and its possible influence on personality. The research question of empirical part is interested in traits of those families, where adolescent self-harm. Family context is shown both on case studies and on summary based on families of 20 adolescents. These results are in accordance with previous research and also suggest some new characteristics for next verification. Characteristics concerning discordant family relationships (both between parents and between one parent and adolescent) seem to be most important. Majority of respondents feel like their parents are not interested in them at all and are too critical. Pastorková, Jana ; Zamazalová, Marcela (advisor) ; Toman, Miloš (referee)
The subject of my diploma thesis is the marketing communication of Astra Praha dancing school. The main purpose was to create the right communication mix in order to stabilize current situation and enable further development of the company. The main subject consists of various parts which are: mapping of theoretic basis focused on marketing of services, marketing analysis of Prague dancing schools' market, analysis of Astra Praha dancing school as well as analysis of elements of marketing mix being used by the company. The thesis is based as well on my personal experience as a tutor in Astra Praha dancing school (more then ten years). This was fundamental when proceeding detail analysis of customer behavior and process analysis in the school. I have also the opportunity to research in praxis of Astra Praha dancing school as well as other dancing schools across Czech Republic the theoretic basis. This contributed to even better understanding of strengths and weaknesses of Astra Praha dancing school and its position on the market. Astra Praha dancing school was not using any kind of electronic database at the time. Therefore it was necessary to gather all relevant data and build a new customer care / marketing database. Some other suggestions and ideas stated in my thesis were also discussed and implemented before the finalization of this work. I chose the marketing communication for a topic of this thesis because I think it is the weakest point of the company's strategy. Therefore it represents serious thread to its next development and success and I hope this work could provide some strategic recommendation. Nevertheless, the most important benefit of this work seems to be the instant change of Astra Praha director's perception of the marketing management and its link to the overall company's management.
