Part of the thesis is quantitative content analysis of two chosen newspapers with aim to determinate, what were the topics, in what range, who was the target group and what type of news was dominating: local, nationwide or global.

Molecular genetic studies in colorectal cancer families
Vandrovcová, Jana ; Kohoutová, Milada (advisor) ; Sedláček, Zdeněk (referee) ; Brdička, Radim (referee)
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers in industrialized countries and affects men and women almost equally (1). The prognosis for a patient largely depends on the stage of the tumor at the time of diagnosis with the 5-year survival over 90% in cases where the cancer has not spread to the outer wall of the colon, but only 5% for stages where the cancer has spread outside the colon (2). CRC is a complex disease where environmental factors such as diet and lifestyle play an important role (3). Besides these factors, it has been shown that CRC occurs more frequently in certain families and a number of syndromes mainly with Mendelian dominant inheritance, which predispose to CRC development, have been described. The most common syndromes include hereditary non-polyposis CRC (HNPCC), familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and MUTYH associated polyposis. CRC develops in a multistep manner over 10-15 years and the tumorigenic process covers a wide range of both premalignant and malignant lesions, such as hyperplastic polyps and adenomas. These lesions are well characterized both morphologically and genetically and can be easily detected and removed by colonoscopy. Even though CRC develops during a long period, carcinomas are usually recognised at advanced stages of tumor development and surgical...

From machine to icon:car in popculture from the 60s
Rybář, Václav ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
An automobile is one of the most important phenomenons of modern technology. Since its origins, it has profoundly shaped our physical, economic, politic, social, cultural and media habitat. The objective of this Master thesis is to analyze the evolution of the role of the car in the popculture from the 60s onwards and its dimensions, with a primary focus on Anglosaxon culture, with excursions to Asia and continental Europe, primarily Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic. The core foundation of the thesis lies in the analysis of the popcultural genres, selected films, TV series, computer games and comic books. The main purpose of the thesis is to reflect upon the identity and conceptual shifts of car, going from a mere transport machine through a vehicle of product placement towards the concept of the icon, a narrative hero of popculture. The hypothesis to verify is that the car has become an essential part of the popculture itself, reflected in many various dimensions: car as a toy, car as a friend, car as a status symbol, car as a narrative extension of the hero and finally, car as a hero and subject. The thesis is divided into five separate chapters, all including case studies. Following an introduction summarizing cultural, economic and historic factors of the car industry, the first chapter describes...

Semi-automated assessment of micromechanical properties of the metal foams on the cell-wall level
Krčmářová, Nela ; Šleichrt, J. ; Doktor, T. ; Kytýř, Daniel ; Jiroušek, O.
Metal foams are innovative porous material used for wide range of application such as deformation energy or sound absorption, filter material, or microbiological incubation carrier. To predict mechanical properties of the metal foam is necessary to precisely describe elasto–plastic properties of the foam on cell–wall level. Indentation with low load is suitable tool for this purpose. In this paper custom designed instrumented microindentation device was used for measurement of cell-wall characteristics of two different aluminium foams (ALPORAS and ALCORAS). To demonstrate the possibility of automated statistical estimation of measured characteristics the device had been enhanced by semi-automatic indent positioning and evaluation procedures based on user-defined grid. Vickers hardness was measured on two samples made from ALPORAS aluminium foam and one sample from ALCORAS aluminium foam. Average Vickers hardness of ALPORAS foam was 24.465 HV1.019 and average Vickers hardness of ALCORAS was 36.585 HV1.019..

SMV-2016-16: Emission and absorption of the thermal radiation of metallic materials for space crafts
Králík, Tomáš
The goal of the experimental study was verification of the radiative heat exchange by emission or absorption of the thermal radiation of materials for parts of a future meteorological satellite. The samples were coated by a protective metallic layer by a magnetron sputtering. It is supposed that this coating substantially decreases the emission of a thermal radiation in comparison with the bare alloy. Within the study were verified also the thermal radiative properties of samples made of bare sandblasted alloy, samples with the protective coating and samples treated by anodic oxidation. The thermal radiative properties were measured in high vacuum with sample temperatures in the range from 25 K to 320 K.

Capital structure of Czech joint stock companies and its determinants
Poulová, Lucie ; Marek, Petr (advisor) ; Hrdý, Milan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to perform an analysis of capital structure of joint stock companies based in the Czech Republic. The first part of the thesis introduces modern theories and main determinants of capital structure. Further it stakes out basic models used for testing the validity of mentioned theories and the methodology used. The second part of the thesis focuses on practical results of the analysis. The first chapter summarises descriptive analysis of the passive structure, the level of leverage, the composition of equity and liabilities of the joint stock companies. These ratios are judged mainly according to industry classification and the type of ownership. In the next step, the relationship between leverage and profitability is closely explored since it is thought to be one of the main determinants. In the last chapter, the models are applied to the sample of Czech companies with the effort to judge the validity of capital structure theories and to evaluate the effect of determinants on capital structure.
