Poet became an editor-in-chief:Transformation of "Host do domu" magazine under the supervision of Jan Skácel(1963-1969)
Stinglová, Helena ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Jonáková, Anna (referee)
The subject of this diploma thesis are editorial, thematic and content changes in literary monthly "Host do domu" during time period 1963 - 1969 under Jan Skácel supervision. Title of the thesis is Poet became an editor-in-chief: Transformation of "Host do domu" magazine under the supervision of Jan Skácel (1963-1969). After Skácel was forced to leave the managing post because of the political reasons, the magazine was led by editor Jan Trefulka. Trefulka was trying to continue in the steps of his predecessor and led the magazine in similar style. Therefore I covered also this time period (1969-1970) after which the magazine was completely stopped by the officials. The thesis is based on qualitative analysis of texts that were issued in selected time period and on analysis of archive materials associated with this topic. The sixties in Czechoslovakia are a period when rigidly regulated one party (KSČ) regime started to loosen its grip. This process was supported by cultural magazines including "Host do domu". The literary magazine "Host do domu" belonged to a certain type of magazines that were trying to deliver articles, parts of fiction and poetry that was not in accordance with regime regulations. Readers were introduced to really valuable texts and articles that were forcing them to think about...
Bernard Malamud's Selected Fiction in the Context of Black-Jewish Literary Relations
Simonová, Anna ; Ulmanová, Hana (advisor) ; Veselá, Pavla (referee)
Although Bernard Malamud's fiction has been frequently regarded as allegorical and symbolic, Malamud did not avoid the period's social issues in his works, such as the racial question and the changing nature of relationship between American Jews and African Americans. The present thesis aims to discuss Malamud's selected fiction dealing with Black- Jewish relations, namely short stories "Angel Levine," (1955) "Black Is My Favorite Color" (1963) and the novel The Tenants, (1971) and to place them into the context of Black-Jewish relations in the United States and of Black-Jewish literary dialogues and the tensions they express. It thus seeks to evaluate Malamud's role in the discourse of Black-Jewish relations in America. Calling upon a theoretical framework, outlined in chapter 2, based on philosophical and sociological findings of Judith Butler, John Searle, and Michael Omi with Howard Winant, the study examines the role of language and literature in constructing the Self and the Other (understood both as individual and collective identities, including categories of race and ethnicity), suggesting thus that literary texts, such as Malamud's selected fiction, are a part of discursive dialogue through and against which American Jews and Blacks construct their identities. Apart from the approaches to...

Jakubec, Dominik ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (referee)
This Bachelor thesis focuses on research of the image of Czechoslovak ice-hockey goalkeeper Bohumil Modrý in literature and contemporary print. After describing the fate of Bohumil Modrý, I focus on the analysis of contemporary daily print, namely Rudé právo, Mladá fronta and Československý sport, in which I research the amount of informations publicated in named daily print and the differences between them. While analysing the daily print, I will focus on few specific periods - 1947 and 1949 ice-hockey world championships, 1948 olympic games, March 1950 in which Bohumil Modrý and his former teammates from national ice-hockey team were arrested, October 1950 in which the court hearing took place, their release from jail in early 1955, death of Bohumil Modrý in July 1963 and rehabilitation of Modrý and his once convicted teammates in July 1968. The third part of the Bachelor thesis follows Modrý's image in the book Jáchymov by Austrian writer Josef Haslinger. It is a novel which was written with help of Bohumil Modrý's daughter Blanka and follows more different storylines, but the main one focuses on the fate of Bohumil Modrý. In this part of my Bachelor thesis I focus on comparation of the informations contained in the novel and those found in specialised literature. In the conclusion of this work,...

Výmolová, Tereza ; Brožová, Věra (advisor) ; Hník, Ondřej (referee)
Diploma thesis named Theme of the city in a contemporary Czech fairy tale story aims to examine various styles of constructions of space and shaping it in a Czech literature for children and youth of last decade. This thesis chooses a theme that is popularized by Pavel Šrut and his novel Lichožrouti - city space. In the first part of this thesis are briefly characterized children proses which were chosen for analysing. Mainly because of showing on which aspects of space are these proses focused and because in the theoretical section are mentioned some of the findings connected to chosen books. The last part of this thesis is focused on analysing the interpretations of different text sections from space point of view. Parts related to each individual proses are organized and divided by locations, in which the books are placed. Taking into account that authors are operating with the space differently based on their intentions and audience, this thesis points out differences and similarities in how the city space and through it its inhabitant and their worries are formed. The thesis indicates how contemporary literature for children and youth is not avoiding serious issues of modern society. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Literary-didactic potential of Capek's Apocryphs
Michálková, Lucie ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Hník, Ondřej (referee)
The main aim of this thesis is to show the didactic potential of the Apocryphal Tales by Karel Capek as well as to suggest the possible ways to include it in the high school literature education. The theoretical part of this thesis mainly deals with the author - Karel Capek and the concept of the Apocryph. These theoretical chapters study the Apocryphal Tales in detail, especially, focusing on the origin of the book and the existing editions, content and formal analysis, author's work with the intertexture and artistic progress used by Karel Capek. The special part is dedicated to the possible reasons of underestimation of the Apocyrph within author's other works. The practical part targets the didactical potential of the Apocryph. There are described the possibilities of the work with all the texts and possible ways how to work with the idea of Apocryph. The crucial part shows the detailed analysis of the didactical potential of seven selected texts integrated with extended commentary to the structure of this chapter. Another very important part pursues the verification of didactical potential of one of the Apocryph in the framework of secondary school education. This part contains the commented version of the preparation for the high school lecture and its concluding reflection that comments on the...
Theme of the city in a contemporary fairytail
Výmolová, Tereza ; Brožová, Věra (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
English resumé This bachelor thesis handles the theme of city (and its displays) in contemporary fairy tail. The thesis is based on Pavel Šrut's writings Lichožrouti and Lichožrouti se vracejí. From this thesis it is obvious, that space is the main element in these tales. As this space is horizontal and vertical, so it is subjective (seen by the characters) and objective. Through the analysis of each space in each book I tried to look into the way of constructing it in books in general. I also tried to analyse the whole writings (focused on the elements and theme of city). As the main result of my findings I consider the fact, that there is a shift (in the sphere of space) between first and second book. The continuing of this shift (possible loop) is expected in next book (or books). This shift is based on significant opposition as well as on their mutual completion. I also tried to summarize the theme of space and city in academic literature.
