Dřevěná, Jana ; Adamová, Karolina (advisor) ; Kuklík, Jan (referee)
The thesis discusses historical and legal aspects of the 1938 Sudeten populace displacement. It scopes over the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1938 to delimitation of the term "Sudeten" and focuses on populace movements in the Turnov area and the town of Turnov, which became the largest border town in the north Bohemia. After a brief historical overview, the focus is given to social and legal shifts in the so- called Second Republic and the application of these new norms in a specific geographic region. Minority rights and living conditions of Sudeten Germans in Czechoslovakia and later in Sudetengau are compared and contrasted with minority rights granted to Czechs in Germany after 1938. A particular attention is given to the attitudes of the government and locals towards the migrants from Sudeten fleeing from Nazi Germany. There is a description of refugee waves, concretization of groups that were leaving Sudeten regions. The changes in the areas of employment, unemployment support, housing policy and charity are exposed in general and their later application illustrated by the case of Turnov and its surroundings.
International Context of the German Minority in Czechoslovakia (1918-1939)
Concepcionová, Simona ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Voráček, Emil (referee)
The subject of the following diploma thesis is the German minority in Czechoslovakia between the two world wars. The Czech Germans at this time played the specific role of a non-state actor of international relations; they became an instrument to dismantle the first Czechoslovak Republic. The Sudeten German question served in the diplomatic game as a test of the international power constellation in Central Europe at that time. Therefore my thesis is a case study dealing with situations where a non-state actor, in this case a national minority, can destabilize the international system, here Versailles, in certain international contexts and under certain conditions. The Czechs and Germans have been living together and managing one territory for centuries. Unfortunately, the combination of indecisive Czechoslovak politicians, the laws disadvantaging minorities, the harsh impact of the economic crisis in the Sudetenland and the geopolitical demands of neighboring Germany resulted in the separatist efforts of the Sudeten Germans. The aim of the thesis is to clarify the circumstances that led to the international interest in the Sudeten German question, in the presence of Nazi Germany, which controlled and supported these efforts. In this story, victorious powers have also played their part, which, by their policies of appeasement, have come to terms with the German rules of the game and helped the outbreak of the Second World War.

Its aim is to create a plastic picture of what happened on the main square in Lanškroun in May 1945. This work follows a research of immediate post war period. In few months (not just in Czechoslovakia) took place changes which irreversibly changed a society structure. Migration waves, the largest in the modern Czechoslovak history, affected economic, political, cultural and interpersonal relations, and thus the overall character of society. Initial euphoria over again liberation changed quickly to commonly manifestation hate against Germans, collectively responsible perpetrators of war crimes. Before official government organized expulsions, there has been a wild expulsions, escapes and people's court. Also by the influx of inland Czechs to border areas there has been created till that time nonexistent reality, culturally and ethnically unified border region which influenced internal state organization and also significantly influenced Czech-German (and Czech-Austrian) relations.
