In the following chapters I wrote about the Role of Ainu minority in Contemporary Japan and about ways, how the Ainu culture is presented to the general public.

Krausová, Michaela ; Průchová Hrůzová, Andrea (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
The diploma thesis examines the depiction of social classes, men, women and ethnic minorities in historical television serials. It is concentrated specifically on a qualitative analysis and comparison of two serials, namely Bridgerton (2020) and The Knick (2014- 2015), of which both fall within the quality television genre. The thesis deals with the ways of representation of the societies of their respective periods, aiming especially at identifying the incorrect depiction of the historical period in question, if any, and at finding similarities with the problems concerning the today's society (such as addressing the issues of social inequalities and manifestations of the identity policy). The theoretical part of the diploma thesis describes the phenomenon of a television serial, namely that concerning the historical serial and quality TV genres, the latter being the kind of television serial work distinguishing itself by comprehensive and innovative procedures, elaborate narratives, and emphasis put on the development of characters. Attention is also paid to the field of the cultural studies, mainly the hegemony theory and the concept of ideology, media and their representation, as well as the study of media audience. In its conclusion, the first part of the thesis focuses on the presentation of...

Situation of the Roma in the First Czechoslovak Republic
Vlasák, Ondřej ; Kubátová, Hana (advisor) ; Gelnarová, Jitka (referee)
This thesis Position of Roma minority in the First Czechoslovak Republic focuses on position of ethnic and national minorities in the First Czechoslovak Republic between 1918 and 1938, specifically on position of Roma minority. Many scholars have already focused on the topic of position of minorities in the First Czechoslovak Republic, but only few focused their work on position of Roma minority. This topic still remains quite unexpolred. In the first part of my thesis, I will focus my research on disprooving claim, that we can consider Czechoslovakia as consociational democracy, by apllication of four basic consociational mechanisms on the political system of the First Czechoslovak Republic. In the second part of my research I will focus on position of Roma minority in Czechoslovak society by analyzing origins of Roma minority, laws focused on Roma minority and position of political parties and majority society towards Roma minority.
The Impact of Low Expectations on the Education of Czech Roma e indigenous Australians
Rambousková, Hana ; Tuček, Milan (advisor) ; Kandert, Josef (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is education of two ethnic minorities living in different majority societies and in different parts of the world - Czech Roma population and Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The author presents relevant sociological critical theories of education and outlines the history of the examined minorities and the development of the approach of the majority society towards these minorities. She focuses on the consequences of discrimination of minorities in the area of education. She identifies similarities between the life conditions of the examined minorities, as well as certain differences arising from different social conditions. One of the common features of both minorities is a low standard of education, which has a negative impact on all spheres of their life (for example, employment, housing conditions, health, and life expectancy). Two case studies presented by the author suggest that the low level of education of minority population is a consequence of wrong education policies in the countries under examination. The main cause of the failure of Roma children in Czech schools and of the children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australian schools is not their incapability but rather the low expectations of their teachers, who put on...
How discriminatory is the housing market in Slovakia: experimental investigation.
Sacherová, Kristína ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Kopečná, Vědunka (referee)
Housing discrimination is a widespread, but markedly underrated issue that is associated with diverse treatment of applicants for real estate's sale or rent based on their affiliation to some minority in society. Although there have been many experiments and studies conducted to uncover and measure the presence of discrimination mostly for African Americans in the US and Arabs in several European countries, such extensive researches for the Europe's largest ethnic minority, Roma, are lacking. This thesis presents an Internet field experiment on discrimination of Roma in the Slovak housing market which uses matched-pair method and four fictitious male applicants to request for a flat or house showing based on an online advert. In total, 396 requests were sent from email addresses with specific names signalizing ethnicity of applicants and the response rate was examined. Data shows that the applicants with Roma-sounding email addresses are 8 to 9.5% less likely to get an invitation for a showing compared to the applicants with the Slovak sounding email addresses. My analysis also suggests that the highest level of discrimination is found in the districts with median Roma contribution (specifically from 3 to 11%). Considering all my findings, it can be eventually concluded that in the Slovak housing...
Media Portrayal of the Riots in the North Bohemia in 2011
Zůnová, Barbora ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor) ; Hájek, Roman (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the media portrayal of the 2011 riots in the north of Bohemia in selected media: the most read serious newspaper Mladá fronta DNES, the tabloid newspaper Blesk, which is at the same time the most read daily in the Czech Republic, and the news website Romea.cz, which is focused on the Roma minority. In summer 2011 there were two attacks on people from ethnic majority by groups of Roma in the north of Bohemia. Lots of riots and demonstrations followed there. In the theoretical part, the thesis focuses on the history of the Roma minority in the Czech Republic, as well as their current situation, the media construction of reality and stereotypes in media, especially about ethnic minorities. The next part of the thesis contains a qualitative study of the selected media, which analyses how the media referred to the riots and whether there were some stereotypes about Roma in the articles. Subsequently, there were several problematic ways of referring to the riots identified within the analyzed media. Stereotypes about the Roma minority appeared most often in Mladá fronta DNES. In Blesk and Romea.cz the reporters were trying more often to offer their readers a balanced point of view. However, the news coverage of the riots by the Romea.cz was unbalanced, because very often...
British Riots 2011 - Comparison with the 1981 Riots
Kubešková, Anna ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis "British Riots 2011 - Comparison with the 1981 Riots" deals with the unrest in the British society during the summer of 2011. It compares the riots of 2011 with the events of 1981 in England. The thesis aims to identify the main similarities and differences between these two events and analyse the change in British society during the thirty years in. The riots in 2011 started with protests after a police shooting on an African British citizen in London which then spread to other English cities. The unrest in the year 1981 had a very similar beginning as well and it progressed in a similar way. The most important aspects of the riots are compared from the perspective of ethnicity and age, through the social and economic problems of these years, and the thesis also touches on the sensitive question of immigration. A special chapter deals with a particularly unique aspect of the riots of 2011 - social media and modern communication technologies that might have been used by the rioters in order to organize the unrest. This thesis was written on the basis of research derived from politicians, journalists and academics and other specialists.
