Svobodová, Petra ; Chlaňová, Tereza (advisor) ; Morávková, Alena (referee)
In my diploma I concentrate on the analysis of short stories by Boris AntonenkoDavydovych, the Ukrainian writer, whose works belong to the first half of the 20th century. I especially aim at Davydovych's prozaic works from the 1920s which had been affected by revolution changes and after-revolution-chaotic reality. First I introduce the literary process and time when the author was active and I chronologically name the sequence of Davydovych's prose. In the first chapter I analyze the single stories at large while focusing on the action that is later divided into partial chapters and focusing on the most important plots and expressive characteristics, I explore the composition issue, the characters themselves, time and space point of view and also the author's style, the method of his narration and his choice of lexical and figurative instruments. The second chapter concerns the topics of Davydovych's stories. His works from the 1920s map the historical topics of the World War I and the year 1905, the civil war and the famine in the years of 1921-23, the after-revolution reality. The third chapter focuses Davydovych's stylistic range that does not divert from realistic mantinels. Though his work is also influenced by revolutinary impressionism, neoromantism and symbolism. The fourth chapter deepens the view...

In individual parts I focused on diferent forms of his work, from works for the journal Volné Směry and posters for the first exhibitions of SVU Mánes, over another poster works, painting works and works in architecture to smaller graphic works and drawings. In another part I wrote about his life and his correspondence. I tried to confront his works with another display of artists who lived in the same time in Czech and in Europe and who were of various generations. In this, I tried to get file his work according to the period context. This thesis does not attempt to compile his entire art production but tries to offer a point of view of his art production, whose most progessive work was around 1900.

Srnková Bergmannová, Sandra ; Gabrielová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Zouhar, Vít (referee) ; Rentsch, Ivana (referee)
The dissertation titled Raná symfonická tvorba Bohuslava Martinů a problematika její kritické edice (Early Symphonic Works of Bohuslav Martinů and Issues Pertaining to Their Critical Edition) deals with a portion of Martinů's compositional output that has so far been investigated only marginally, namely the period of his artistic beginnings when he was seeking his compositional language and technique. The first part of the dissertation attempts a deeper exploration of the circumstances of origin of the Nocturno 1, H. 91 and the Balada k Böcklinovu obrazu "Villa na moři" (Ballad on Böcklin's Painting "Villa by the Sea"), H. 97. Although available sources do not provide a complete picture of the years 1914-15, they do offer new findings. The dissertation describes the relationship among the Nocturno 1, the Skladba pro velký orchestr (Composition for Large Orchestra), H. 90, and the Nocturno "Růže v noci" (Nocturno "Roses in the Night"), H. 96, which may together have formed the now-missing set of dance scenes with recitation Tance se závoji (Dances with Veils), H. 93, composed for the Russian dancer Olga V. Gzovska. The discussion of the fates of these pieces closes with the assumption that Martinů intended to offer them to the Czech Philharmonic together with the ballad on the Böcklin painting. The main part...

Archeology of a woman poet. On the gender dynamic of literary situations
Kalivodová, Eva ; Heczková, Libuše (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee) ; Merhaut, Luboš (referee)
The dissertation combines two threads of argumentation. One is represented by the exploration of the gender dynamic in several literary situations of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The gender dynamic comprises, in the case of this research, notions of mutuality and interrelatedness of men's and women's cultural values; the always present, but historically changing reality of gender norms in society and culture, and in literature itself; the ways in which individuals cope with these norms. Especially the need to demolish the norms on the side of creative women and their eventual literary achievements are focused by single chapters of the dissertation. The first one rethinks the work of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and ~xplains why it meant a major gendered cultural and literary tum in the English-speaking world in (roughly) mid-19th century. Barrett-Browning's literary accomplishment winning immediate recognition - which has been largely veiled or dismissed by ideologies of 20th century literary histories - is explicated with the help of concepts of the reception theory developed by Hans Robert Jauss. The second chapter switches its focus from the contexts of Barrett-Browning's life and work and her primary reception to her later Czech reception. It brings forward the fact that at the beginning of the 20th...
