Types of Language Exercices and their Distribution in Selected Textbooks of Czech for Foreigners

This dissertation focuses on exercises contained in textbooks of Czech for foreigners and compares the frequency of each type of exercise in selected textbooks. The first part of this dissertation examines related theoretical approaches, including general pedagogical concepts of textbooks and exercises as well as some possible ways of exercise classification. Where appropriate, the more specific approaches of teaching languages are included. The second part of this dissertation deals with the main topic of this dissertation which is frequency analysis of certain exercise types conducted on seven textbooks of Czech for foreigners. The main analysis criterion was suitability of each type of exercise for practising specific language areas and communicative skills. This part further provides detailed analysis method description (including the method of selection of specific textbooks for analysis) and the analysis results. By way of conclusion this dissertation compares all textbooks and seeks to provide some recommendations for teachers who work with these textbooks.
Adaptation of Czech Language Leaving Examination for the Deaf in Light Testing Czech Language as a Foreign Language

This diploma work focuses on Adaptation of Czech Language Leaving Examination for the Deaf, which deaf student in Czech republic pass as a part of the their Leaving Examination. As a background of this main theme examines also present situation in the research of reading literacy. In the main part of this work is this examination presented in detail and there are also presented the results of deaf students and some other statisticts information. Examples of test units and student's written works are attached too. The other part of this work describes examinations of Czech language as a foreign language and give some detail information about the most important exams. In conclusion, the author of this work is trying to explore the way how the deaf students language skills in other countries are examined in their Leaving Examination.
Classroom Instructions in Teaching English

The diploma thesis Classroom Instructions in Teaching English aims at presenting basic principles of giving instructions during English lessons and their practical use. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The latter is further separated into a list of textbook instructions and a list of instructions used in classes. The theoretical part describes an important relation of instructions and the classroom situation as well as the dependence on the immediate response from the students. The ensuing part deals with applying the theoretical principles in practice. The author gathered instructions used in the third edition of New Headway series textbooks and instructions used by teachers in English lessons at various types of schools (the age of the observed students ranged from 7 to 18 years old) not only to illustrate usage of the theoretical principles in practice but also to show the differences between textbook and classroom instructions and to present a sample of instructions that are used at several schools in the Czech Republic. Language Skills in Preschool Age and their Development

Language education permeates all nursery school activities. Theoretical part of this thesis is devoted into three parts: developing the language skills of preschool children, speech and language development in preschool children at home and in the nursery school, the proper development of speech at all language levels. I deal with the processing of language education in the current curriculum for preschool education, language competence, which should preschool child handle before attending primary school. I clarify the terminology, language education and the development of pre-reading skills, I give reasons for the importance of education before a child learns to read. I emphasize to familiarizing children with the book, the correct speech pattern of nursery school teachers. At the end of my work I deal with speech and learning disability dyslexia. In the practical part of my thesis I demonstrate created project of the development of language education which permeates controlled and free activities in a nursery school. In the project I want to show you how I have practically developed language and pre-reading skills of children before attending primary school.

Title: Using elements of art education in teaching German as a foreign language (with a focus on drama pedagogy and work with picture book "Queen of Colour" by Jutta Bauer) Summary: My thesis is focused on integration of aesthetic elements into a German language lesson. Such elements help to improve students' language resources and language skills and they also help to develop their personality. The subject of my work is relation between the language and art - particular art education, namely dramatic, musical, and literary - partly - art education and their application in a foreign language lesson. This thesis is based on the theory of drama pedagogy and on analysis of an authentic foreign language literary text, namely on the picture book genre. The topics in the practical section are taken from artistic sources and were tested in particular sample lessons. Lifestyle, language skills and needs of Ukrainian and Vietnamese migrants in the Czech Republic

The report is the result of research project financed by the National Institute for Education. The main objective is to explore the lifestyle, language skills and needs of migrants in the Czech Republic. The target group of the project are citizens of Ukraine and Vietnam residing in the country. The project is focused on the first generation of migrants living in the Czech Republic, who are preparing to pass the compulsory language test (A1 level), or those who completed the test recently.
Preparing high school students for the university studies in the area of natural science

This bachelor thesis focuses on issues and aspects of science education in secondary schools. The theoretical section describes available options for selecting appropriate teaching methods, including additional student activities such as Olympiads and student research projects. The language skills of high school students are also analyzed. The practical section describes a conducted exploratory probe focused on finding information about the knowledge of high school students on student research and professional activities, Olympiads, and their opinion on the importance of these activities for the University entrance examination. Finally, the listed requirements of selected universities to study applicants are discussed.

English for Tourism

The thesis is focused on ESP, English for Specific Purposes, namely English for tourism. Another specific feature is that it focuses on one particular student and the preparation of an individual course for him. In this thesis the student's needs are analyzed, the course syllabus is developed and teaching materials are prepared. After the study of the theoretical literature, the needs of the particular student are analyzed in terms of language needs, language skills and intercultural competence. The analysis is carried out through a guided interview and synthesized in a case study. A one-semester course syllabus design is the result of the analysis. In accordance with the syllabus, the lesson plans containing specific topic, aim, language skills, language sub-skills and teaching materials are created.
Using the Interactive Whiteboard in English Language Classes at Middle School Level

This diploma thesis is focused on using the interactive whiteboard in English language classes at middle school level. The theoretical part is focused on describing the interactive whiteboard, development and description of particular language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and language subskills (grammar, pronunciation). The practical part deals with a preparation of some English classes. From observation of the classes, from the interviews with teachers and the questionnaire among pupils I will make a conclusion for training which language skills and subskills it is good to use the interactive whiteboard.
