Economic Analysis of Investment in Nuclear Weapons
Martínková, Hana ; Chytilová, Helena (advisor) ; Slaný, Martin (referee)
Nuclear weapons are a rather marginal issue in economics as opposed to the political realm where it is an ever-present topic concerning global security. This thesis argues that economics can make a valuable contribution to the nuclear weapons debate in several ways and aims to present those in a comprehensive manner. First, a cost-benefit approach is employed to show that costs and benefits go beyond counting dollars directly spent on nuclear arsenals. Second, market investment in nuclear weapons producers is analysed with the help of SWOT analysis. It has been shown that the profitability of such an investment is closely tight to government decisions and ethical concerns must be taken into account as well. Finally, game theory, namely the ideas of Nobelist Thomas Schelling (1960), is being used to examine behaviour of states, the main actors connected to nuclear weapons. If the theory is true, nuclear weapons will serve as a deterrent and an equilibrium, or focal point, of non-use will prevail. Nevertheless, some assumptions and conditions are not being met in reality and the possibility of a non-equilibrium outcome, the use of a nuclear weapon either by accident or intent, remains.

Challenges in Providing Unpublished Research Data in Biomedical Engineering to Grey Literature Repositories
Francová, Pavla ; Krueger, Stephanie
Regardless of the scientific field or focus, every researcher produces during his or her career a multitude of unpublished research data such as laboratory diaries, grant proposals, images etc. Although making such data more accessible undoubtedly has value for researchers, they are currently not shared in open repositories. Why are researchers still reluctant to actively use grey literature repositories for unpublished contextual materials and data? Authors will discuss how scientists might be encouraged to add such material to grey literature repositories and specific examples of unpublished research data will be shown in connection to model scientifi c project.

Trajkovski, Georgi ; Plchová, Božena (advisor) ; Halík, Jaroslav (referee)
The goal of this diploma thesis is an analysis of the Czech automotive industry perspective which is influenced by trends of globalization. There are mentioned three viewpoints (economic, political and social) of the globalization trends in the first chapter. The indicators of global competition indices are also included here. The second chapter is focused on the Czech automotive industry itself. There are analysed the Czech automotive production, a condition of the car fleet and main export markets. The chapter number three is aimed at european (EU) viewpoint. The main terms are an automotive production, direct and indirect employment and comparison of car fleets among the EU member states. The fourth chapter is focused on a widest global viewpoint. There is an analysis of the world biggest automotive producers, main export and import markets and the car fleet in chosen world economies. The conlusion includes three schemes for the future development of the Czech automotive industry. The author tends to the middle one, which is characteristic by a moderate growth in the Czech automotive production. But this growth won't be enough to keep the present position in the world, because of the much bigger and booming developing countries especially in Asia. The main export markets of the Czech producers will be more presented by Asian fast growing economies (e.g. member states of BRIC). The Czech car fleet could a bit improve in next few years, that means a mild growing number of cars and a decrease in an average age of cars.

Simplified Study of Feasibility of a chosen Plan
Kubový, Daniel ; Pirožek, Petr (advisor) ; Pevná, Jana (referee)
The subject of this thesis is to create the simplified feasibility study of two versions of photovoltaic power plants and compare them with each other. Point out the advantages, disadvantages and differences of each version. The aim will be to prove or disprove the sustainability of each version throughout their lifetime at current conditions in the Czech Republic. It will also be taken eye on investment efficiency. Option A have to build solar power plants on the roof of the factory holding. Option B have to build photovoltaic power plant on the meadow. Both versions of solar power plants will have the same power. The electrical energy produced from both versions of solar power plants will be consumed in the manufactory. I deal with methodological approaches in the theoretical part of the issue. In practical part I follow these approaches by creating my own simplified feasibility study.

Legal protection of databases
Šlajerová, Martina ; Boháček, Martin (advisor) ; Menčl, Jakub (referee)
The rising importance of technological development especially in Europe and the USA, which are the largest producers of databases, requires an internationally unified regulation for the protection of databases. The aim of this thesis is to present these issues and highlight the shortcomings of the current and proposed legislation in order to determine adequate legal protection of databases and how this can be achieved. The first chapter provides an overview of the definitions and the basic concepts. This includes the protection of databases by copyright and the sui generis right and a list of criteria in order to establish adequate legal protection. The second chapter outlines the legal protection of databases in the European Community, including the current legal system, its benefits and drawbacks and alternative protection to sui generis. Additionally the theories and current judicial practice are presented to further clarify the issue. The third chapter deals with the alternative legal protection to copyright of databases in the U.S. that in many ways differs from the European legislation. Similarly both copyright and database protection alternatives are presented in terms of legislation, case law and theories relevant to this area. The fourth and last chapter focuses on the international regulation of databases, and any potential changes in international regulation with regard to protecting databases. Moreover theories and rulings in this area are presented. Finally all the important points of this thesis are summarized and adequate legal measures for the protection of databases are suggested based on the advantages and disadvantages of the current forms of protection and judicial practice.
