The significance of animal tableaus in the Hare chamber at Bučovice Castle
Bakešová, Lucie ; Nespěšná Hamsíková, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Jarošová, Markéta (referee)
In the Bachelor's thesis, I deal with the significance of the hare's theme in the compositions of the so-called reversed world. The focal point of this thesis is the decoration of Hare chamber at Bučovice Castle, which will be set in a wider cultural context. The thesis focuses on the iconography of the hare theme in general, as well as on the occurrence and significance of the hare's depiction in the European environment. General parts of the thesis lay the basis for a deeper interpretation of the theme of the reversed world in Hare chamber in Bučovice. The themes of the reversed world, of various animal species in human roles, have a rich tradition, they appear in the edges of medieval illuminated manuscripts, in the late Renaissance graphic arts, and this tradition continues without interruption to the present day. This type of depiction could have satirical or moral significance, but its function could be just to entertain spectators. The Hare chamber is one of the five representative rooms of Bučovice Castle with a rich plastic decoration in good condition and paintings from the third quarter of the 16th century, showing the hare in human roles. These are themes that create a closed cycle of "hunted hunts the hunters" tableaus. Why this theme was the subject of Hare chamber, I will try to answer by a...

Research of seasonality in the animal dental cement and the use of this method in archaeology
POŘÁDKOVÁ, Kateřina
In the Diploma thesis called "Research of seasonality in the animal dental cement and the use of this method in archaeology", I devote myself to one of the most reliable methods for determining the age cementochronology, or the analysis of increments of the dental cement. By using the method, it is possible to relatively accurately evaluate the age of an individual and to determine the death season, and thus we penetrate deeper not only to problems of palaeoecological conditions of archaeological situations, but also to economical-social relationships of then populations. Cementochronology also allows trace hunting and settlement strategies, i. e. when and for a what purpose the specific site was settled. The Diploma thesis summerizes previous knowledge about the method and compares it with the results obtained by the analysis of increments of the dental cement, which was applied on referential zoological and archaeozoological material.
Throwing ability in human evolution
Struška, Michal ; Sládek, Vladimír (advisor) ; Hora, Martin (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to describe the origin of bone markers that characterize individuals who throw habitually and the usability of these markers in research of past populations. The thesis also summarizes knowledge of the origin and development of projectile weapons in Pleistocene. The effectiveness (accuracy and speed) of throw is probably related to differences in morphology of pectoral girdle, torso and hand. Therefore, a part of the text summarizes the morphology of pectoral girdle, torso and hand in the species H. erectus, which was probably the first group of hominins able to throw with effectiveness close to the one of anatomically modern humans. The development of projectile technology, which came after the adoption of effective throwing ability, is usually inferred from archaeological findings of spears and arrows. Various interpretations of archaeologically found weapons bring different conclusions regarding the usage of these weapons. The usage may be inferred from bone characteristics originating as consequences of moves that individual executes when manipulating weapons.
