Nutrition of top bodybuilders
Knobová, Kateřina ; Hučko, Boris (advisor) ; Kodeš, Alois (referee)
This bachelor thesis outlines nutritional guidelines for top bodybuilders, including the bulk phase, drawing preparation and recovery period. Bodybuilding consists of a number of mutually related and interdependent parts (training, recovery, nutrition, lifestyle, dietary regimen etc.) and neglecting one single of them may have a significant impact on final achievements. Nutrition is one of the principal issues in bodybuilding. The thesis describes the key nutritional attributes for the first year of the recommended diet, starting with the basic nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and fats), supplementary components such as vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements, and including a list of recommended foods. The thesis shows that top bodybuilders´ diet is very specific, although, interestingly enough, consisting largely of regular food items that are suitable for any humans. The most important attributes of the diet are quality and content of nutrients, as well as their amount and rate of absorption. The timing of the diet intake, drinking schedule, the use of selected supplements are also relevant. The thesis provides an overview of key supplements like vitamins and minerals, protein and carbohydrate concentrates, anabolic boosters and NO supplements, joint nutrition, BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acids), fat burners, arginine, creatine, glutamine etc. One of the unique attributes of bodybuilders' lifestyle and diet can be seen in alternating between phases of intensive training and regeneration, which is driven by their sheer will and dedication.
Proteins in nutrition of recreational bodybuilders
KRČOVÁ, Daniela
This bachelor thesis deal with role of proteins in nutrition of recreational bodybuilders. The first aim of this thesis is to describe the main sources (food and supplements) of protein of conditional bodybuilders. The second aim is to describe average intake of proteins of choosen conditional bodybuilders. Theoretical part of this thesis summarize all important informations about proteins in connection with bodybuilding. The thesis could be useful as a manual for recreatioonal bodybuilders to better understand of protein issue. At first, I occupy with general facts about proteins and recreational bodybuilding. Progressively I describe the protein metabolism and differences in protein intake between common population and bodybuilders. I simply concern important sources of protein in food. I devoted separate chapter to protein timing (nutrient timing) and protein supplements. The final chapter deal with high-protein diets, which are very popular in bodybuilding latest time, especially in weight loss. To acchieve the goals of this bachelor thesis, I have chosen quantitative and qualitative research. The collection of data for quantitative research was realized via questionnaires which were distributed to recreational bodybuilders in the written and electronic form. Written questionnaire was given to several recreational bodybuilders in the gym. Electronic questionnaire was published on online bodybuilding forum Ronnie.cz. Results of quantitative research are presented in the form of the graphs. For qualitative research I have used the recording sheet to which the selected recreational bodybuilders recorded their one-week diet. These data were evaluated in the program Nutriservis. The results were compared with the recommendations of protein intake and interpreted in the form of the tables and text evaluation. Results of the research confirmed my hypothesis that most of recreational bodybuilders consume more proteins than they actually need. According to frequency form, recreational bodybuilders prefer rather animal proteins than plant proteins. Qualitative evaluation also indicated that conditional bodybuilders diet is often very stereotypical.

Analysis of market with anabolic-androgenic steroids
Holčapek, František ; Běláčková, Vendula (advisor) ; Chmelová, Pavla (referee)
This thesis deals with the black market of enhancing drugs with a particular focus on androgenic anabolic steroids (AAS). Medical studies agree that these substances in the form and quantity abused by athletes to improve performance are damaging the body and therefore author is looking for recommendations for economic policy on how to reduce rate of this abuse. The study of economic literature (especially the Becker's "Theory of rational addiction") shows that users of AAS are rational, often even more rational than users of other harmful substances, because they abuse these substances with long-term plan. The reason of this purposeful approach is that the desired "delight" is derived from hard-earned success unlike other drugs and therefore abuse of AAS is associated with discipline, calculation and hence a (limited ) rationality. Economists building on Becker 's theory point out to cases where this limitation is so significant that it justifies regulation. This thesis is based on the assumption (supported by studies) that prohibition or penalizing the users themselves are ineffective instruments and therefore is the author looking for alternative solution. The author believes that the main stimulators of demand for AAS are misleading media; benevolent government's approach towards bodybuilding competitions; and finally the prohibition leading to the formation of the black market which makes it impossible for (potential ) users to become optimally informed about health risks etc. This hypothesis is being tested in questionnaire survey distributed mainly through social networks. Finally, the author sets out recommendations for economic policy: that restrictive hand of the state should focus attention in the opposite direction than before i.e., the demand side and thereby subtly demotivate users themselves.
