Josef Čapek (Critical Essay)
KOLDOVÁ, Kateřina
Diploma thesis called Josef Čapek (monographic study)focuses on Josef Čapek's literary discourse. On the one hand it deals with the meanings of topics and motives, which were crucial for Čapek's writing in the relation with the whole author's work, on the other one it concentrates on formal characteristics of Čapek's literary language. Thesis also attempts to answer the question whether Josef Čapek followed contemporary literary tendencies or whether his works differed and if they did, then how. The relationship between Čapek's writing and paintings is also important, therefore the thesis examines whether his painting activity somehow reflected in or even directly influenced his literary works. The whole thesis is divided into eight chapters, by which we suggest to structure also whole Josef Čapek's literary work itself into eight periods and areas. Bibliography, mapping published first editions of his texts, reception and reflection of his literary works, paintings and his own personality, is also important part of the thesis.

Secondary school ESL teachers' attitudes, understandings and concerns about implementation of inclusive education in Kazakhstan
Makhmudayeva, Shynar ; Stará, Jana (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The issue of special and inclusive education had become the crucial topic for discussion in Kazakhstan after signing the UN CRPD (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) in 2008. The fact that children with disabilities are excluded from the mainstream and quality education in Kazakhstan attracted the attention of national and international experts. Kazakhstan with its trilingual language policy (Kazakh language as the state language, Russian as the language of interethnic communication and English as a way to enter the global community (Ministry of Education and Science [MoES], 2010a)) should be able to provide quality language learning for children with and without disabilities. The attitudes of teachers remain as one of the most crucial factors in implementing inclusive education. The purpose of this qualitative study is to examine the attitudes, understandings and concerns of secondary school English as the Second language teachers regarding the implementation of inclusive education in Kazakhstan. The central research question of the study is following: What are the attitudes, understandings and concerns of the secondary school English as the Second language teachers about the inclusion of children with disabilities? Three sub- questions are: 1.What are inclusive school ESL...

Polášek, Matěj ; Snítil, Václav (advisor) ; Snítil, Václav (advisor) ; Čepický, Leoš (referee) ; Pazdera, Jindřich (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis Jaromír Weinberger, Life and Work is to offer basic facts about a practically unknown (though important) Czech composer. The text presents probably the most comprehensive list of literature that can be used as a good starting point in later researches. The most extensive part of the work includes biographical data that have not been published in the Czech language in this scope yet. The most important compositions along with the crucial moments of Jaromír Weinberger´s life are mentioned here. Among others special attention is paid to his best known opera Švanda dudák. The work also contains a survey of compositions for violin and piano, as well as a short musical analysis of three parts of České písně a tance for these instruments with some basic aspects of the Weinberger's style. The thesis is finished with personal evaluation of Jaromír Weinberger´s work in the context of the Czech musical culture.

On the Use of the Conjunctions bis, bevor and ehe in the present German language and their translation into Czech
Trojanová, Jana ; Dovalil, Vít (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
This thesis deals with the use of conjunctions bis, bevor and ehe in the present German language. The characterization of them in grammar books and selected textbooks is compared, special attention is given to the difference between anteriority and posteriority and the synonymity between conjunctions bevor and ehe. There are also concerned the problems of translation of these conjunctions into Czech. One part is dedicated to the searching of sentences which are related with the future and in which occur conjunctions bis, bevor and ehe in the sense of anteriority. With conjunctions bevor and ehe the use of implicit negation is crucial. Keywords: anteriority, posteriority, negation, tense combinations

Štindlová, Barbora ; Šebesta, Karel (advisor) ; Petkevič, Vladimír (referee) ; Šindelářová, Jaromíra (referee)
Title: Evaluation of Error Mark-Up in a Learner Corpus of Czech Author: Barbora Štindlová Department: Institute of Czech Language and Theory of Communication, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague Supervisor: prof. PhDr. Karel Šebesta, CSc. Abstract: The thesis deals with the topic of Czech as a second language, while introducing methods of corpus linguistics as applied to texts produced by language learners. The context is the process of building and exploiting a learner corpus, with a focus on its error mark-up and options for evaluating the annotation scheme. Learner corpora have become a major resource for investigating a learner interlanguage and a significant incentive for many different types of research and teaching of second/foreign languages. They are used mainly for contrastive studies of native and non-native speakers, i.e. for contrastive interlanguage analysis, and for computer-aided error analysis of the learner language. This kind of analysis is crucially dependent on the type and quality of the error mark-up. In every error-annotated corpus the error annotation is based on an error typology, which is necessarily problematic from a number of theoretical aspects. Evaluation of the reliability and validity of the annotation scheme design is therefore an important step in the build-up...

On the function of norm authorities as a social force that co-determines the language standard (as applied to selected variables in German grammar)
Lisková, Alena ; Dovalil, Vít (advisor) ; Doležal, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis thematizes the behaviour of university teachers at Czech universities with the German language attended as a field of study. University teachers act in the social network as a social force called norm authority. As norm authorities, they are obliged to ensure the standard variety of the German language. Following the presentation of related theoretical concepts and models, such as norm, standard variety, social forces that co-determine the language standard and the language management theory, the outcomes of the empirical research are being analysed. The practical part of the thesis includes also the Follow-up interviews with the norm authorities. As applied to the selected variables from German grammar that originate from authentic tests, the behaviour of the norm authorities is being analysed. In this case it is accentuated, whether the norm authorities act in accordance with the other social forces that are able to determine the language standard, especially with codices and the model texts. The acting of the norm authorities is described with single stages of the language management process. In our case, the first phase - noting a deviation from the norm - is crucial. The analysis has shown that in some cases, the norm authorities do not notice the deviation from the norm. In other...

Substate nationalism in the EU. Scotland and the Basque Country.
Horanská, Katarína ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Urban, Traian (referee)
Diploma thesis "Substate nationalism in the EU. Scotland and the Basque Country" deals with Scottish and Basque substate nationalism and their secessionist objectives. Five for nationalism crucial areas have been chosen, analysed for each of the two nationalisms, and compared. These areas are historical background, language, will to form a nation, economy and political base of nationalism. Scottish and Basque nationalisms are very different in their essence, the first being civic, pacifist and inclusive, while the second is based on ethnic premises in a polarized society strained by violence. However, both nationalisms have strong desire to gain independence and also various similarities in some of the factors can be found. The second part of the thesis deals with decentralization and europeization of the two nation states of Spain and the UK in respect to their nationalists. Could the new European and domestic opportunity structures satisfy the Basque and the Scottish nationalists, or will these changes work as an additional incentive for their independence struggles?

Difficulties in Teaching of Foreing Languages by Students with Dyslexia at HTF
Šimánková, Sylvie ; Krahulcová, Beáta (referee) ; Zelinková, Olga (advisor)
Diploma thesis "Difficulties in teaching of foreign languages by students with dyslexia at HTF" deals with students affected by specific learning disability, who study foreign languages at HTF. I have chosen this topic, because I think it is important to consider their disabilities not only during university studies, but also afterwards. This is crucial here in Czech Republic since educational system does not care about them after leaving High school, even though their problems usually persist, sometimes for life (i.g. foreign language learning). These issues often cause repeated failures that lead to termination of their study.

Integrated Network Traffic Processing Framework
Hrubý, Tomáš ; Bulej, Lubomír (referee) ; Tůma, Petr (advisor)
Knowledge of what data are carried by network links is crucial to be able to prevent attacks and to improve quality of services. Therefore it is important to develop network monitoring tools which can operate on speeds of new gigabit networks. This thesis discusses general principles of designing a highly flexible framework which is divided into several levels. These spread across various hardware and software environments. This allows us to keep up with a gigabit speed. We show details on an extension of the FFPF framework to run on top of an IXP based PCI board. In addition, we present an implementation of Ruler, a language for packet pattern matching and data anonymization, implemented for highspeed traffic monitoring using IXP network processor. This work also presents performance evaluation, discussion of bottle-necks, general problems and compares with other related projects.
