ISBN system in the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis is aimed to introduce several different aspects of the identifier ISBN, with emphasis on the Czech Republic. The work is divided into two parts - theoretical and analytical one. Introductory chapter defines the need of identification of information sources. It provides information about properties and division of identifier, too. Next part of the work is already focused on the identifier ISBN. It represents this identifier with regards to historical and organizational aspects. This part also analyzes the actual structure of the ISBN number. Furthermore, the bachelor thesis is devoted mainly to the usage of the ISBN identifier in the Czech Republic. It outlines the historical development and specific use in this country. The following part of work is strictly practical - attempts to analyze the usage of ISBN identifier in several information institutions. The final part of this bachelor thesis offers a summary of the main propositions and outlines possible future problems of the ISBN system.
Contemporary book market. Field Inquiry research among both booksellers and customers and its evaluation

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to present an overview of the Czech book market. At the same time there should be given the outcome of my own inquiries as compared with the currently available data. The thesis is based on the statistical data and information which were offered to the author by the representatives of the Czech book market. The introductory part which marks the year 1989 as the start of the contemporary book history is followed by the characteristics of the book market structure during the years 2001 - 2010. The impact of the decisive factors, in particular the V.A.T. increase, and the new modes of reading such as electronic books ,are analysed. The thesis was complemented by the face to face interviews with two contemporary Czech authors who at this occasion presented their opinions on the latest developments of the Czech book market.

The first part describes properties and structure of the online book market, identifies market participants and outlines possible typology of bookstores.The second part focuses on search engine optimization (SEO), accessibility, usability and online marketing with practical examples and proposals for online booksellers. The last part compares bookselling online with bookselling in stores.
Selling used books online

The aim of this thesis is to describe selling and buying used books online. This thesis includes analysis of book listing services, where everyone can buy, sell or exchange used books online. These web portals are more common outside of Czech Republic. There is also described practice of online auctions sites (such as Aukro or eBay) that are also often used for trading books. This thesis also includes description of traditional auctions, which are in some way operating online as well. In Czech Republic online antiquarian bookstores are the most common way of buying books. This thesis describes development and current practice of Czech antiquarian bookstores. Part of this thesis include libraries' practice with selling and purchasing used books, as libraries are significant producers and often even buyers of used books. This part includes original research among several libraries.
THE TRANSFORMATIONSOF THE RELATION BETWEEN AND READER AND BOOK IN THE YEARS 1990-2009

Bachelor thesis "The Transformations of the Relation between a Reader and a Book in the Years 1990-2009" aims to describe and clarify the development of book reading in the Czech Republic from post-revolution years to the present days with an extension to the 80s. Mapping of this subject-matter is based on an analysis of a range of readers' surveys which addressed the relation between a reader and a book, reading habits, behavior on the book market, libraries, preferred literary genres and authors etc. This thesis covers all these aspects. It also deals with international researches of reading literacy among teenagers (PISA). In the beginning it offers several readers typologies in search of the most suitable definition of a reader. It treats the significance of the book for human society and explains the changes on the book market since the fall of the communist regime. Then it characterizes sociological research and its requirements as well as its possible limits and deficiencies. The most extensive chapter describes individual readers' surveys, from information about how they were carried out to their most important findings which are then put into context. Use of Marketing Mix in Book Publishing House

The thesis focuses on the marketing of the medium-sized publishing house Kniha Zlin. The aim is to analyse communication mix, to assess these tools and to propose recommendations that would help to improve the communication with customers. In the first part the thesis focuses on the definition of the marketing concepts and marketing mix as well as it focuses on the specification of the Czech book market. The practical part is focused on publishing house Kniha Zlin and includes company descriptions and analysis of its communication tools, followed by the evaluation of the communication mix and its recommendations for streamlining.
Business Plan of Czech-Italian Publishing Children's Books

The scope of this work is to realize a good business plan of a Czech-Italian publishing house of a children's book that could demonstrate the success and viability of the project. In the theoretical base, the structure of a business plan and the content of its single parts will be analyzed. In the practical application, the specifics of a publishing business and book market will be described. Afterwards a concrete business plan including in particular the analysis of company environment, marketing plan, implementation plan and financial plan will be created. In the end the risks will be evaluated.
Electronic Books

My bachelor thesis is devoted to ebooks. It elaborates on the format of ebooks and the sources from which it can be obtained. There are also analyzed the reasons why the books are digitized and the ways in which digitisation is performed. One chapter is also devoted to ebook readers and other devices and computer software on which one can read ebooks. The practical part contains the price setting of ebooks and assessment of the situation on the market for ebooks in the Czech Republic and abroad. The price setting of ebooks is applied to a particular numerical example. The main part is the survey among students of universities in the Czech Republic. Further aim of my thesis is to evaluate the situation on the ebooks market and to conduct a survey about attitudes towards ebooks among students of universities.

This thesis is focus on the book market in Czech Republic and its current situation. The main objective of the thesis is, through primary research and cluster analysis, to uncover market segments, which shows significant differences in costumer behavior and through crosstabs develop profile of these groups. Base on this information focus on the segments attractive for bookshops to address them and prepare recommendation to focus on them. The market research has a qualitative character and is realized inform of personal and internet questionnaire. Selection of respondent is in form of Quota sampling, using quotas tender, age and education.

The thesis Analysis of the influences on the Czech book market and its future prospects discuses the nowaday status of books in society, its possible causes and effects, and also tries to suggest possible solutions. The first part focuses on the influence of literary culture on society and its benefits, the primary theme is literacy and its development in the Czech Republic. Further there is an analysis of the influences that may impact the status of books in our culture. There are also described possible alternatives and potential remedies to stimulate readership in the community. The thesis ends with an analysis of the current state of the book market in the Czech Republic and the possible options how to improve this situation.
