Neology in contemporary French

This master thesis is dealing with the preference of certain categorical structures (VN compounds, nominal syntagmas N de N, N à N and their English equivalent) to denotate a new referent. Its aim is to describe current trends of denominative instrumental neology. The thesis is dividend into two parts: teoretical and practical. Theoretical part provides a brief characteristics of the concerned fields: neology, neologism, compounding, nominal syntagmas and productivity. Practical part includes survey and compares its results with corpus analyses and data obtained from Google browser.

Contemporary Czech Neologisms Reflecting Social Networks

This bachelor thesis discusses the neologism that has appeared on social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). The first part of this thesis summarizes and classifies the finding of relevant literature, describes lexical units and defines terms as neologism, neosemanticism, loan word and social network. The second part include semantic and word-forming analysis of found neologism with special attention to loan neologism and its adaption. The thesis is materially based on social networks, articles about social networks and the database NEOMAT. The conclusion summarizes results of the research. The appendix of this thesis includes the list of new found lexical items, a table of frequency of found neologism and links of used articles.

Terminologies expressing complex social hierarchies in Russian and Czech

This Bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of terminology expressing complex social hierarchies in Czech and Russian, which is examined in the examples of military ranks. The aim of this thesis is to create parallel Czech-Russian military terms and examine them in terms of their word formation, especially systematism, motivation and etymology. The thesis also includes a brief historical overview of the development of Czech and Russian military ranks. The following sources were used in this thesis; general and specialized lexicological literature on word formation, general and specialized dictionaries, publications and articles of the authors dealing with the issues of milatary terminology. The primary method in this thesis is a confrontational analysis which should lead to the conclusions of the specific Russian and Czech military terminology representing social hierarchy. Word formation of verbs in Russian mat

In this thesis we analyze a linguistic phenomenon in russian language (and East Slavic area) called mat. The task of mat is actual and wide spread in Russian language, but also overlooked in contemporary linguistic scientific literature. The mat is in our thesis analyzed on background of so called typology of swearing, which is a distribution of languages of various language families of european languages based on the common features (themes or functions) of their swearing. In this thesis is also clarified the term mat, it's function and it's composition. The aim of this thesis is word formation process of verbs in mat and it's potential to express non obscenne maenig by using a stem of obscene words, i.e mat. The fourth part compares swearing- vulgarism in Russian and in Czech language, where the focus is to the verbs according to the theme of this thesis.

This bachelor thesis deals with Nomination of persons by their activity in the Russian language in a confrontation with the Czech language. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis deals with ways of creating words and motivations of nomination of persons by their activity in the Russian language and the Czech language. It also analyses word-formation in both the languages. The practical part of this bachelor thesis deals with already specific comparisons of typology of nomination in terms of word-formation categories of nomination of persons by their activity in the Czech language and the Russian language e.g. productive ways of word-formation, productive formants in both the languages (prefixes, suffixes etc.) and their differences. There is also a question of gender inflection of nomination of persons by their activity between the Russian language and the Czech language that this bachelor thesis deals with. Contemporary Czech Sports Neologisms

This bachelor thesis discusses the new appearance of substantive, adjective, verbal, and adverbial phrases in the sports area of the Czech language. The thesis is materially based on the database NEOMAT (Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic), the databases of the Czech National Corpus, and the Newton Media archive. The first part of the thesis covers the definition of the concept of neologism. The following chapter discusses the ways of genesis of neologies whereas it pays special attention to loan neologisms. The neologisms are being described according to their word-formation type and also to their semantic type in the case of substantives. The conclusion summarizes results of the research. Linguistic aspect of the selected old Czech literary text

The topic of this thesis is the linguistic analysis of the Apollonius of Tyre novel contained in the Pinvicka collection, which comes from the second half of the 15th century. During the creation of the thesis is used especially the qualitative textual analysis, which is in the major part of the thesis supplemented by the quantitative statistical analysis. Opening parts of the thesis represent general information about the Pinvicka collection, in which is contained the analysed literary landmark, and about the literary landmark itself. Follows the detailed analysis of the orthography and of all linguistic layers, i.e. phonology, morphology, syntax and word formation. Every linguistic layer and the orthography are elaborated in a separate chapter. At the end of each chapter is the summary of the achieved results, which includes also charts and tables. In the chapter, which is devoted to the orthography, is primarily payd attention to the speech sounds, for which is typical disunited way of transcript. In the phonological part are treated phonic changes, which are realized in the text. The morphological part of the thesis is concerned with representation of word classes and particulary with grammatical cathegories of nouns and verbs. Abrreviation in Contemporary Bulgarian language in Comparison with the Czech language

ABBREVIATION IN CONTEMPORARY BULGARIAN LANGUAGE IN COMPARISON WITH THE CZECH LANGUAGE Dissertation work is aimed at confrontation study of abbreviation in Bulgarian in comparison with Czech and at the description of abbreviations as specific language symbols. Contemporary language tendencies and the changes in the field of abbreviation in relation to the language typology are taken into account. The work is dedicated to the grammatical, stylistic and semantic characteristics of the abbreviations, while a substantial part of the confrontation description addresses the graphical and initial abbreviations, which create a central part of the partial system of abbreviation formations. From the confrontational aspect, there is also described the ability of abbreviations to serve as word-formation base for derivatives. The dissertation work also includes the results of socio-linguistic research made by questionnaire method, where the respondents evaluated the abbreviations of an international character and the words containing abbreviated bases implemented into the text written in Cyrillic.

Word-Formation Processes in Contemporary English Slang

The presented study focuses on the processes involved in the formation of words in contemporary English slang. The aim of the study is to determine which patterns of word building are the most frequent, also compared to the general word stock of contemporary English, based on the analysis of a representative sample of contemporary slang expressions. In addition, the study attempts to determine if there are any phenomena that have been given little or no attention so far. The study consists of two parts. The theoretical part describes the phenomena that are relevant to the scope of the research and the study in general. The first section of the theoretical part includes a description of slang, also pointing out the differences in the treatment of slang between the English-speaking and Czech linguistic tradition. The second section contains a description of the source of the data used in the research, namely, the open Internet repository of slang expressions Urban Dictionary, which is one of the most widely used slang dictionaries on the Internet. The third section provides an overview of word- formation processes that are productive in contemporary English and relevant to the source material of slang lexemes.
