Centre of Culture Brno
Pieleszová, Katarzyna ; Teplý, Vladimír (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Ladislav (advisor)
The goal of this project is to design a new cultural centre building in the locality Brno-Starý Lískovec, Mikulášovo square. The building site is situated between two separate blocks of flats. The principle of this draft lies in a simple combination of compositional axes. The first axis is the square’s axis of symmetry, the second one represents the distinctive shapes of the built up area from the 60’s and the third one expresses a certain metaphorical axis of the landscape panorama. This connection of lines created material which, after consideration of space requirements of all the workflows and traffic, provided the final shape. The whole object is functionally divided into two parts – the cultural centre itself as the core, and the attached sub-parts. Among the supplemental facilities there are areas dedicated for a cafeteria, a bookshop with artistic theme and an exhibition space. The objective was to create a compact structure which would allow an unlimited movement across those facilities. An important part of the exterior is the façade. The building changes “moods” during the day, the colours and shades change with the sun going down. This idea includes a plan of exterior passage which can guide visitors to the main entrances. The outside areas are designed for relaxation and art.
Reservoirs - Brno, Zluty kopec (Yellow hill)
Goncharenko, Anna ; Stýblo, Jakub (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the creation of a design for a new building of the center of contemporary art and architecture and the use of existing reservoirs on Yellow Hill in Brno with the possibility of changing their original function. The work deals with the possibilities of processing the original terrain and the connection of the proposed new buildings to existing reservoirs. Architecturally, it explores the possibilities of designing new buildings contextually with the current architectural expression of the surrounding buildings and past architecture. The current situation is that a beautiful architectural and engineering monument, such as the reservoirs on Yellow Hill, is practically closed to the eyes of ordinary people. Only one of the three reservoirs is open to visit - the oldest brick reservoir built in 1872. The main goal of my work was therefore to make the reservoir area accessible to the public and to give people the opportunity to visit all three reservoirs. To this end, it was necessary to design entrance pavilions and safe entrances to the reservoirs and to fill the reservoirs with a new function, because the reservoirs were terminated in 1997, when they were disconnected from the water supply network.
EX/POSITION
Brinzová, Marianna ; Zálešák, Jan (referee) ; Artamonov, Vasil (advisor)
The diploma work titled Ex/position is a project, exhibition, intervention of space, which determined itself as the topic and object of its research (analysis and interest). The Ex/position is an exhibition about an exhibition, a project about a project and a reflection about a context. The main output of the thesis is a curatorial project created in the concept of collaborative practice. The result of it is a collective work in the form of an exhibition. The thesis as a temporary gallery installation is created on the basis of the curatorial and as well authorial concept in collaboration with other authors. They were ideologically, formally, creationally involved in the collective work. The Ex/position reflects these topics: collaboration, the essence of the particular media and their contemporary intermediality, the relation between author and author, author and curator (and their blending) and the creation process of an exhibition.
Architecture and Art
Hrončeková, Barbora ; Hybská, Bohumila (referee) ; Hora, Jan (advisor)
The design of City Gallery in Litomyšl reacts to the viewpoints of the city’s structure with the number of volume in various heights. The volume of the building is divided into 5 units with different height levels. The main principle is the connection of urban spaces, whether in the form of terraces, which are accessible to the public and connected by exterior staircases or in the form of volumes. Volumes tactically change their height based on the purpose and filling of a given volume, the phase of passage from one elevation to another, or the desired expression. They recede and create semi-public terraces and courtyard, ascend or protrude and form dominants. At the point of direct vision from the square, the mass of the highest floor recedes, and thus does not disturb the desired expression of the church.
Reservoirs - Brno, Zluty kopec (Yellow hill)
Lackovičová, Lenka ; Zelenková, Jitka (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The Tourist Information Centre of Brno is currently searching for ideas on how to utilise and create access to out-of-use historical reservoirs located almost at the top of The Yellow Hill, in the area covered in wild vegetation hemmed in by Tomešova and Tvrdého street. The goal of the first phase of the project was to create a concept of utilisation of the area and the objects within. The second phase of Master Thesis concentrates on describing a specific idea of processes taking place in this area and a detailed design of its selected parts.
Home-topia
Demovičová, Barbora ; Sit, Peter (referee) ; Macháček, Mikuláš (advisor)
Home—Topia is an ongoing contemporary art research and exhibiting project, putting focus on the current forms of migration, rooting, unrooting and life in between cultures. Home—Topia is examining the notion of home, sense of belonging and its connection to the physical space. Home — Topia is based on the assumption that various forms of mobility, migration and life on the move have become one of the basic characteristics of today's world. The primary goal of the Home — Topia project is the realization of the group exhibition of five Berlin- based artists with ties to the Czech and Slovak cultural environment: Zorka Lednárová, Katarína Hrušková, Petra Debnárová and the duo Julia Gryboś + Barbora Zentková. Following the dialogue between the artists, new artworks will be created and presented in Raum für Drastische Maßnahmen gallery in Berlin. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event will not take place until 2021. A secondary output of the project is the online platform home-topia.eu. This online platform makes publicly accessible the research trajectory, interviews, essays, bibliography and events archive. The project also included the interactive video installation in the Raum für Drastische Maßnahmen gallery in Berlin, which used elements of augmented reality. Two channels video installation was presented from 11th until 21st of June.
School of Art Brno
Macháček, Tomáš ; Teplý, Vladimír (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Ladislav (advisor)
The theme of the project was to create a new building of Brno School of Art. The building is located on the territory of Brno-Kraví hora and is surrounded by the park, astronomical observatory and planetárium and the gardens. The land is located on a sloping terrain and nowadays there are situated old buildings intended for demolition on it. The design reacts to the difficult slope of the land and its aim is not only to create a new building, but also transformation of the land into the attractive park. The object is designed as a single mass consisting of the main building and two attached pavillons. There are branches of studies like fine arts department, musical department, department of dance and the literary drama department. The building is designed to have two floors. Construction is consisting of combination of reinforced concrete skeleton and reinforced concrete walls. The facade is made up of corten metal plates. The parts of the buildings are also Café and multifunctional hall, in which there is possible to hold performances or exhibitions. The aim is to open both the land and school to public and integrate the Kraví hora to the city life

Žvak, Ondřej ; Plášil, Jiří (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (advisor)
The main target was to create a new hall for 600 people. I tried to make a multifunctional hall which can be used as a theathre or a place for exhibition, balls etc. The apearence of the building is influenced by lack of space. The building was designed in minimalistic style. Facade reacts to historical setting. The building is composed from three mutually displaced blocks. Interier is also in minimalistic style. I used light colours and limited number of materials.
Modernity and holocaust
Vašička, Pavel ; Šindlar, Jiljí (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
The thesis deals with the design of the Holocaust Documentation Centre in Moravia. Currently, there are several museums dealing with the Holocaust in our country, but none of them provides comprehensive documentation of the Holocaust. The proposal therefore seeks to create a museum that will be able to report on the Holocaust in a broader context and at the same time will be an attractive environment, especially for visitors living in the multimedia world of the 21st century.
The Relationship between Curator and Educator in Museums of Art
Juríková, Kristýna ; Sládková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Havlůjová, Hana (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the issue of relations and cooperation between curators and educators in art galleries. The theoretical part introduces both professions, presents their work activities and qualification and competence requirements. Furthermore, the theoretical part focuses on a brief overview of the ongoing transformations in exhibition institutions, specifically describing the related new institutionalism and the educational turn. The practical part presents empirical research, the main aim of which is to find out what the collaboration between curators and educators in selected art galleries currently looks like. The data for the research are collected through semi-structured interviews with curators and educators from the galleries; questions are directed at mutual collaboration as well as previous experience, education and work background. The information obtained in the interviews during face-to-face meetings is analysed and interpreted together with information from the websites of the selected galleries. The research shows that all the galleries surveyed offer a variety of active programmes for different target groups, which shows a reflection of the ongoing changes and a certain shift towards an educational turn. The main aim of the research is to map the current state of...
