The causes of desertification in Africa
Nesrovnal, Evžen ; Potopová, Vera (advisor) ; Brigita, Brigita (referee)
This bachelor thesis follows the causes, consequences and future impacts of climate change and desertification in Africa and globally. The work is focused on the Convention itself which deals with combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought, especially in developing countries and the related Joint Africa-EU strategy and priority measures. The thesis also deals with the issue of enlargement of deserts and provides a comprehensive overview of areas prone to desertification on all continents. It pays attention to adaptation and mitigation measures at the global level, but also on the African continent and simultaneously due to desertification on agriculture and food security. The last part of the research is a case study of the Sahel which is part of Africa between the 12th and 20th parallel of the northern latitude. It describes the characteristics of the landscape, desertification and possible solutions, eg. appropriate farming practices and habits of the population which is very important to change for development of this highly affected area. Abundant drought in this region had occurred in the 70s, mid-80s and again in the early the 90s of the 20th century, in Sudan since the 70s of the 20th century, each year annual rainfall is reducing. Results based on analysis of historical observations indicate the presence of at least three particularly sensitive regions called the climate "hotspots" - places with the most apparent climate change (rainfall decrease in the dry season is almost one hundred percent).

The Significance and Function of Artificial Water Courses in the Present-Day Urban Environment
Ležatka, Lukáš ; Kyselka, Mojmír (referee) ; Ing.arch.Jaroslav Tušer,CSc. (referee) ; Löw, Jiří (referee) ; Lhotáková, Zdenka (advisor)
The objective of this dissertation is resolving the issues of both form and function of water courses in a present-day city. The dissertation focuses primarily on water courses which may be described as man-made, i.e. those resembling a canal, and addresses their prospective revitalization within the context of urban renewal and development in the present-day post-industrial era. The introduction includes a comprehensive analysis of the historical and typological development of artificial water courses, essential for grasping the connections as well as the current overall state of water courses in an urbanized setting. Detailed attention is devoted in particular to the most frequently occurring artificial water course - i.e. the race. The dissertation strives to defend the irreplaceable role of the water course as a public space in the urban landscape and - consequently - also its prospective essential revitalization. Examples, especially from throughout Western Europe, are used to demonstrate particular solutions, approaches and strategies to predominantly artificial water course renewal within the urban environment. The dissertation also devotes attention to the tools used in reaching relevant solutions.

Hodnocení potencionálních vlivů skládky na životní prostředí
Vaverková, Magdalena Daria
Research of the municipal solid waste landfill in Štěpánovice dealt in detail and in a comprehensive way with the issue of waste disposal and potentional influence of the landfill on the environment. The issue is topical especially because landfilling is still the most common method of communal waste disposal in the Czech Republic. It can be generally stated that in some cases, waste disposal may have a negative influence on the landscape resp. on the environment.

Genetická struktura mediteránních populací kaloně Rousettus aegyptiacus
Marešová, Tereza ; Hulva, Pavel (advisor) ; Bryja, Josef (referee)
5 Abstract The genus Rousettus represents the only fruit bat genus distributed both in Asia and Africa reaching northern distributional limits of the Pteropodidae family. This unusual distribution pattern is related to the ability of echolocation, subsequent cave dwelling and probably other thermoregulatory and behavioural adaptations to relatively cold and dry climate. Methods for identification of genetically discrete populations were used in the presented study to acquire better comprehension of historical ways of colonization along with current dispersal and migratory patterns of the Egyptian fruit bat (Rousettus aegyptiacus) in the Mediterranean basin and adjacent range patches. Modern approaches to population and landscape genetics were applied on a dataset comprising 553 individuals from 72 localities using 20 nuclear microsatellites. Our results revealed a significant genetic distance of East African individuals and certain substructure in the northern part of the range. Cypriot population is clearly separated, and - for higher K - the isolation of colonies from Egyptian oases is highly supported. Genetic proximity of south Arabian and Sinai populations contradict current taxonomy of the species. Our findings highlight the role of seas and deserts as barriers restricting gene flow and the evolution...

Biotechnické objekty v krajině
Valová, Ludmila
This thesis is concerned with the issue of biotechnical objects in the landscape. Biotechnical objects are built to protect species biodiversity. They replace the natural refuge of certain groups of animals. The first chapters on the protection of nature and state of habitats in the Czech Republic explain the reasons why many habitats are endangered or extinct. In a second stage the proposed classification of biotechnical objects follows. Three ways of looking at sorting them are introduced. They reflect the open landscape, the private sector and the urban area residences. Finally the description of construction, materials and suitable locations is presented for 20 biotechnical objects. Their arrangement corresponds to the classification by target species. The part of the thesis is a case study which is based on the field research in the years 2013-2015, when the implemented biotechnical objects were visited. The result is a comprehensive evaluation of the functionality of selected objects and their aesthetic influence.

Collection of manuscript maps to the landscape's changes of Pilsen region in the time of raabisation (end of the 18th century)
Marečková, Jitka ; Ebelová, Ivana (referee) ; Semotanová, Eva (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the unique collection of the manuscript maps of Pilsen demesne, which originated in the end of 18th century due to the Raab System. The thesis aims to draw attention to this theme, so far rather neglected in the Czech historiography. The raabisation maps are the important source not only for the reconstruction of the landscape at the end of the 18th century, but also for the survey of the property relations, which went through the essential changes due to the Raab System at that time. The thesis provides an account and evaluation of the literature related to the topic, a depiction of the Rab System process in the Pilsen district and a comprehensive catalogue of the Pilsen raabisation maps. The work includes index, bibliographical references, list of abbreviations and list of illustrations.

History of Czech railway press after 1989
Suchomel, Jiří ; Jirků, Jan (referee) ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor)
Bachelor thesis "The History of Czech Railway Press after 1989" provides a comprehensive picture of the Czech media landscape formed by the railway press. The development of the railway press reflects not only the changes in the industry but also the changes in the Czech society as a whole. For this purpose, the text also mentions the period before 1989 in order to set the modern history in its historical context. The thesis points out the continuity across publications and divides them into several categories. The thesis also explores the level of editorial independence of the researched periodicals. In this respect, the text is rather an overview -- a mix of compilation and comparison that reveals a potential for further study in a more analytical way. Despite the railway being a relatively specific environment the presented concepts can be applied in other fields.

Lifelong learning: diagnostics
Míka, Jan ; Večeřa, Ivo (referee) ; Beneš, Milan (advisor)
The present thesis attempts to find a general model for tailerod education of adults. The author start s off by defining the recipients in the current education landscape. Thereafter, he provides a comprehensive overview of both well- and less-known typologies (MBTI, Keirsey, Kolb, LS). Based on a critical assessment of the instruments in view of their appropriateness for the categorization in lifelong learning, the author concludes that the existing approaches, while offering valuable insight, may be less than optimal for the education of adults, the reason being the complexity of application. The thesis concludes with a proposed approach drawing on Jung's personality theory, outlining a general method for the education in differentiated groups that could prove useful. The thesis can serve as either a starting point for further empirical research to validate the practical approach towards the differentiated groups determined with the empiricaltheoretical model, or as a guide for junior practitioners.
