The support of the presence of a father throughout a birth from midwives point of view
MAŠKOVÁ, Jana
The topic of this Bachelor Thesis is Support of Fathers? Attendance at Midwifery. The Thesis is dividend in two parts, theoretical and practical ones. The theoretical part concentrates on the father?s role within the pregnancy and in the course of delivery, on the midwife?s care during the delivery as well as on both laymen and professionals? opinions on the fathers? attendance at delivery. Nowadays, fathers? birth attendance appears quite a common thing, which did not use to be obvious in the past. However, we can meet with various views of the matter. The first aim of the research investigation was to ascertain the midwive?s opinion on fathers? birth attendance, and the way they support those fathers attending the birth. The second aim was to ascertain how much the fathers were satisfied with the midwive?s support. So as to reach these aims, the qualitative research investigation in the form of semi-structured interviews was adopted. The research sample was made up by eight midwives from the Maternity Unit of the Hospital in Třebíč, and eleven randomly chosen partners/fathers attended the births in this Hospital. The data collected from the interviews were processed via the quantitative analysis. It was ascertained that the midwives had a positive approach towards the fathers? birth attendance, and they preferred cooperation with those partners/fathers who had not been made to their attendance in any way. The midwives expressed their support for the partners/fathers attended in form of their communication with both of the expectant parents, and not forcing the partners they tried to involve them in the delivery process. Fathers/partners mentioned that they did not feel to be a burden but a part of the team. Concerning the midwive?s support, most of the interviewed partners/fathers found it satisfactory. Only one of them did not need this support, he claimed it for his wife only. Other two of the interviewed fathers/partners did not feel the support of the midwives. The results of this research investigation could be used as the information material for the midwives working at the delivery room, or for students studying this specialization, and for the expectant fathers as well.

Heart Rate Response in Newborns to Relatively Strong and Mild Trigeminal Odorants
Boušová, Jiřina ; Martinec Nováková, Lenka (advisor) ; Brothánková, Pavlína (referee)
The widely accepted view nowadays is that experiencing odours as rather pleasant or unpleasant is, to a certain degree, shaped on a daily basis through individual experience within one's culture via evaluative conditioning or, rather marginally so, via mere exposure to that certain odour. In other words, humans are not born with any fixed set of olfactory likes or dislikes but rather, they acquire them throughout their lifetime. However, olfactory sensation is not a "pure" percept, as odorant stimuli generally elicit a qualitative percept of an odorant - generated mainly by the olfactory nerve - as well as some degree of chemesthesis - a tactile confound of the odour generated mainly by the trigeminal nerve. The olfactory and trigeminal system exhibit complex interactions at both the peripheral and central level of chemosensory processing, which is also reflected in perceptual characteristics of the final percept, including perceived pleasantness (hedonics). If the olfactory contribution alone does not easily predict neonatal odour hedonics, due to newborns' limited previous exposure to chemosensory inputs, one may hypothesize that together with the strength of the trigeminal contribution they may form a significant factor affecting neonatal appetitive/aversive responses to odours. In the present...

NATO and WMD: Evolution of the threat construction and Alliance's response
Hrdinová, Lucie ; Rychnovská, Dagmar (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
This Diploma Thesis called "NATO and WMD: Evolution of the threat construction and Alliance's response" deals with the evolution of understanding of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). WMD, especially the nuclear ones, have preoccupied NATO since its establishment. However, it was only after the end of the Cold War that NATO started to focus on WMD as a specific overarching category, consisting of chemical, biological and nuclear (since 9/11 also radiological) weapons. Despite the conspicuousness of the concept and increased use of the WMD term, the definition of weapons of mass destruction is not clear-cut. However, the way the actors understand WMD is very important. For this reason, NATO's official discourse is studied as an indicator of how is WMD understood in the Alliance, which will allow to fulfill objectives of this thesis. First, the work intends to analyze how has the WMD threat been constructed and interpreted within the Alliance since the year 1991 until this day. Secondly, this thesis aims to find out what is NATO's response to the dangers posed by the identified WMD threats (i.e. proliferation and terrorism) and identify the concrete measures the Allies undertook to tackle the evolving WMD threat. This thesis is based on...

Bonding - opinions of medical staffs and mothers
KŘIVANOVÁ, Šárka
Bonding is a process by which is created a relationship between mother and child. The foundations of emotional bonds are built, foundations of a loving relationship. In its course we try to aim a maximal contact between mother and her newborn child and so improve its start to life. Right support of bonding contributes not only to psychological and emotional site, but to immunologic as well. (Mrowetz a kol., 2011). The theoretical part is concerned mainly with bonding description, further description of a delivery without bonding support and the participation of nearby persons by the delivery or the woman psychic and prenatal psychology. Research part of this thesis was concerned with investigation about bonding as a whole by 3 groups of respondents. The first group was built by six midwifes working in delivery rooms in different hospital in the area of Czech Republic. Second part was put together from six children's sisters, who work with at newborn department and came to care for newborns after delivery. Sisters form different hospitals were approached in this case too. To the last group were six women integrated in various stage of pregnancy. What pregnancy was it for the woman was not decisive for interviews. Before processing of this thesis were set two goals. First goal was to find out, if mid wives and children's sisters at delivery room know, what it is bonding and how to use it with advantages for the newborn and how to establish the first contact between mother and child. Second goal is to find out, to what extend is a pregnant woman informed about possibilities to improve the start of the newborn to life with the help of bonding. From these two goals emerged tree research questions, from which two were for medical staff (Does the medical staff have suitable and adequate conditions for bonding? In what does medical staff see the contribution of bonding?) and one for mothers (What do you imagine under the term bonding and in what do you see its sense?). For these research questions were seeked answers by getting and processing of each half structured interviews. For the research process was used the qualitative method. From the results of the research emerged, that medical staff does not have sufficient information about bonding usage by delivery. They answered identically to given bibliography to the basic questions, however they did not fully master particular elements of bonding. Midwives and newborn´s sister believe they do not have enough staff for adequate bonding usage, however they are willing to support bonding on mother-to-be wishes. They are not so obliging by the C-section. In this case they present unsatisfactory conditions for its usage like not enough staff, time and space. To the second research question was given this answer. The contribution of bonding sees the medical staff in the creation of positive bond between mother and child and in god adaptation of the child to new environment. According their meaning does bonding bring a positive experience form the delivery and improving of mother role admission, less stress for mother and child and even quicker after-delivery adaptation. Mothers imagine under the term bonding a contact of a mother with her child. The meaning of bonding they see in the building of psychic contentment and general soothing of mother and her child, in reaching better relationship between mother and child and in quicker lactation start. It is necessary to continue in raising of public awareness concerning bonding. In my opinion is necessary to realize more lectures and trainings about bonding contributions, especially from the site of psychologist so the contributions of bonding to the benefit of mothers and newborns can be used.
