Negotiation of the limits - limits of the negotiation. Case study of the actor network influencing the conditions of Tepla Vltava preservation (NP Šumava)
Endrštová, Veronika ; Novotná, Hedvika (advisor) ; Grygar, Jakub (referee)
In my graduation thesis I have considered how the nature protection is being negotiated and legitimated within the case of canoeing on the river Teplá Vltava in NP Šumava. I have identified the human and non-human actors' network influencing the case and addressed the role they've played during the negotiation process. Based on the qualitative analyses of semi-structured interviews and documents I have revealed the key factors determining the actors' attitude towards the process. The conception of nature and the reference to the place have been revealed as the most important ones. In connection to both of them I have tried to find out the way how actors interpret the key factors and what kind of consequences it takes with. Through the factors I have reconstructed the whole case and analyzed how the actors use politics and expertise as their strategy within the decision making process. The whole study is based on the theory of social construction of reality (Berger and Luckham 1999) and the actor-network theory (Latour 2003). Key words: nature protection, actor-network, negotiation, decision-making process, canoying, pearloyster, Teplá Vltava, NP Šumava.
The Landscape of Memory of Duchcov-Bridge. The socialist Ideology in microhistorical perspective.
Pýcha, Čeněk ; Pullmann, Michal (advisor) ; Činátl, Kamil (referee)
The main point of this work are the forms of remembering collision between striking workers and the cordon of gendarme, which took place in Duchcov (North Bohemia) on 4.2.1931 and where four workes were killed. In the time of socialism in Czechoslovakia was created a complex collection of these by the state supported forms of rememembering, which we have called The landscape of memory of the Dux bridge on the ground of works of Pierra Nora and Jan Assmann. The Ananlysis of this landscape of memory is the main object of the first part of this work. The second part is focused on the involved persons, who took part on the construction of the landscape of memory and who articulated in negotiation their own individual intentions. Keywords: Dux bridge, landscape of memory, realm of memory, culture memory, communicative memory, ideology, socialism, negotiation
Solving of Conflicts in the International Relations. The Case Study of the Conflict in the Northern Ireland
Novotná, Tereza ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
Diploma thesis Conflict Resolution in International Relations: The Case Study of Northern Ireland Conflict examines development of the conflict and peace process between the years of 1980 and 2007. A complex concept of conflict analysis by Peter Wallensteen is applied to the case of Northern Ireland. Using the method of process tracing allows for a detailed understanding of the transformation of conflict dynamics from negative to positive. Such a transformation results from behavior and attitudes of individual actors who act positively and in a constructive way. The following actors were identified as the main parties to the conflict: IRA, Northern Ireland political parties - mostly the UUP, DUP, SDLP, and SF - governments of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Development of their attitudes and interests is examined with respect to five distinct categories: involvement of independent authorities and/or third parties; ideology and understanding of the main goals; economic conditions; cultural aspects; and the matter of decommissioning. The Northern Ireland case illustrates that the change of behavior eventually led to the transformation of the conflict and its resolution. However, it also illustrates how painfully slow process it was.
Liberal intergovernmentalism: The role of small states in the European integration process
Bambasová, Hana ; Plechanovová, Běla (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
The aim of the Master thesis Liberal intergovernmentalism: The role of small states in the European integration process is to test the applicability of the theory of Liberal intergovernmentalism to cases of small Member States of the European integration. Furthermore, the thesis aims to clarify the role of this states in the evolution of the European integrative cooperation. In order to reach the research objectives, the thesis uses case studies of Belgium and the Netherlands and it examines their motives and behaviour during the negotiation of treaties of the European primary legislation. The thesis is divided into chapters based on a chronological succession. Each chapter describes a time period before one of the treaties of the primary legislation, from the foundation of the European Economic Community until the signing of the Treaty of Amsterdam. The chapters deal with the motivation of small states for new negotiations and their claims in concrete areas of diplomacy. These claims are further compared with results of the negotiations in the context of the significance of the arranged agenda. The use of data mining technology in an interactive bargaining in retail
Waldmannová, Lenka ; Novotný, Ota (advisor) ; Jašek, Pavel (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of data mining technology within interative bargaining in retail with closer focus on the implementation of data models and related rules, which support interactive haggling with the customer. The aim of the thesis is to prepare proposals for data models, calculations and rules that are involved in the haggling process with the customer. Prepared outputs are used in the demo application "Bargaining" and its application is showcased on the demonstrated examples. The work is divided into two main areas -- the theoretical definition of work and the analytical processing. The theory part includes available research work (resources), which will be used to characterise various thematic areas of the work - Customer Intelligence, Customer Lifetime Value, Data mining, Interactive marketing, negotiation techniques and Setting prices. Analytical processing is focused on the practical use of the acquired knowledge. It iis the calculation of selected values, their processing and application within the Bargaining process with the customer. In conclusion, all the results, reaching the goals and the recommendations for the development or modification of the solution, will be assessed. The anticipated benefit of the application is its use in the negotiation between the trader and the customer, without dropping the agreed sales price during realised business below the expenditure costs. It is about ensuring the interaction, where the customer is allowed to negotiate the price of goods but the trader ensures that the price will not result in a loss. The benefit of the solution is the support of the customer satisfaction with regards to the financial interests of the detail industry.
Behavior analysis of unskilled negotiators during negotiation
Szabó, Tomáš ; Jarošová, Eva (advisor) ; Jusko, Roman (referee)
This thesis attempts to map out the negotiation strategies used by unskilled negotiators and among these, to identify those strategies which prevent such negotiators from achieving the most effective outcome. In highlighting such incorrect negotiating strategies, the thesis aims to steer academics away from using such strategies as part of their future teaching material on negotiation strategies. The theoretical aspect of this work describes the theory behind negotiating strategies and maps the features, styles and negotiation procedures which are used during negotiation. The practical part of the thesis interprets results gained from the research which was carried out. This research, which was conducted in the winter semester of the 2013/2014 academic year, involved the staging of bargaining games that were held over five separate sessions as part of the subject "Introductory training of social and management skills".

Game theory in the current flood protection
Pokorná, Veronika ; Macháč, Jan (advisor) ; Louda, Jiří (referee)
In recent years a considerable attention has been devoted to flood protection measures because of great damages caused by floods. While planning measures the consideration is based on costs and benefits associated with their implementation, i.e. the application of cost-benefit analysis (CBA). In most cases the relation of upstream and downstream in river catchments is neglected, therefore in the practice a potential for a retention of upstream remains unused. This bachelor thesis deals with a projection of this upstream/downstream relation into the current flood protection. Mathematic method of the game theory is used for the analysis of the optimal allocation of flood protection measures between the upstream/downstream areas. The upstream/downstream relation is defined by the specific assumptions and conditions. On the basis of these specific assumptions and conditions a payoff 2x2 matrix is modelled. The thesis constructs individual scenarios of mutual positions of these two parts. Possible outcomes are analysed by using game theory, while taking into account liability for damages, negotiation options and transaction costs. Presented results of individual scenarios indicate that the game theory is a suitable tool for the assessment of an optimal allocation of flood protection measures and its application in practice is appropriate in conjunction with other tools.
