Hušková, Barbora ; Majerová, Věra (advisor) ; Petra, Petra (referee)
This thesis, created under the topic of rural renewal, illustrates the rural area and its renewal topic on the example of a small village, specifically East Bohemian village Kosice. To do so it firstly defines a theoretical platform consisting of core concepts in rural areas such as country, village, municipality and influencing entities. The second part of this thesis contains theoretical studies focusing on rural development and renewal with the definition of development support instruments, levels and entities; it also describes potentials and summarizes factors and trends affecting rural life, including migration trends. The first practical part studies and analyzes Kosice, its development over time and current situation which enables inclusion of the village among the rural ones and determination of the research basis. The actual research is based on acquired theoretical and practical knowledge. To consider local specifics a qualitative research consisting of an interview with a mayor is carried out, followed by a quantitative research through questionnaire survey to gain the residents´ perspective on the current development and the possible future development of the village. The results are processed using statistical methods and used to propose recommendations to the village for its future activities according to the obtained opinion of its population.

The Families of the Homosexual Partners
EMROVÁ, Monika
The present diploma thesis explores the issue of families made up by homosexual partners. The reasons for choosing such subjekt were based on my focus on this area. The goal of the thesis was to compare opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood of homosexual people collected from two groups, a group of heterosexuals and a group of homosexuals. The following hypothesis was postulated at the beinning of the survey: There are signifiant discrepancies between opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood according to sexual orientation retrieved from groups of heterosexuals and homosexuals. The surveyed contingent comprised of two respondent groups. The homosexuals were included in the first one, the heterosexuals were entered into the second one. The first group included those female and male homosexuals who in one way or another keep in touch with the South-Bohemian Lambda. The second group comprised of female and male heterosexuals. A respondent from the latter group had to match a respondent from the former one in three given criteria (sex, age, and education). The survey objectives were achieved by way of asking questions. Doing so questionnaires were employed as the essentials tool. The hypothesis was confirmed. The outcome showed that heterosexuals and homosexuals have different opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood of homosexual people. The results accomplished and published in this thesis are available for further studies and researches in this area and they can be used in teaching. The present thesis may also give feedback to the South-Bohemian Lambda which might find the survey´s findings very intersting.

Influence of homogamy and complementarity on partner choice in homosexual individuals.
Bártová, Klára ; Varella Valentova, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Procházka, Ivo (referee)
Recent studies show that both physical and personality characteristics influence mate choice. Two theories explaining particular mechanisms of mate choice were proposed. Theory of homogamy suggests that individuals prefer partners with similar personality traits as they have. In contrast, theory of complementarity states that people choose mates with opposite personality traits. Main aim of the current study was to test homogamy and complementarity of personality traits in long-term same-sex male couples. The research sample consisted of 40 male homosexuals (mean age 24.2, SD = 4.6) and their long-term partners (mean age 27.4, SD = 5.2). All participants completed anonymous set of questionnaires (NEO-FFI, Spanier's test of dyadic adjustment, questionnaire focused on gender diagnosticy and revised sociosexuality orientation inventory) Each questionnaire was evaluated separately. The individual scores of participants and his partner was compared by correlational analyses. Then, we using a correlation and ANOVA analyses between couples similarity and results of Dyadic Adjustment Scale was tested. Findings showed that greater couple similarity in BMI and weight indicates higher satisfaction in the partnership. The results also showed that homosexual couples were similar in age, occupation, level of...

Valentová, Jaroslava ; Havlíček, Jan (advisor) ; Lindová, Jitka (referee)
The diploma thesis focused on male sexual orientation from various points of view, and in particular, several aspects of masculinity-femininity and partner preferences. Theoretical part of the thesis aimed at masculine and feminine personality, facial and vocal traits, as well as attractiveness of these traits for other individuals. The second part of the thesis consists in an empirical experiment where lay judges rated attractiveness, masculinity-femininity, and sexual orientation of facial photos and vocal recordings of homosexual and heterosexual target men. Other method used in the study was a set of questionnaires and standardized psychological tests focusing on gender nonconformity and other traits that were presumed to relate to male sexual orientation.

Emerging Voices: The Portrayal of Minorities in the Work of Willa Cather
Plicková, Michaela ; Robbins, David Lee (advisor) ; Ulmanová, Hana (referee)
The thesis seeks to explore the portrayal of the othered, marginalized individuals in the fictional work of Willa Cather. The primary focus of the text is the first-person narrative of My Ántonia (1917). Other complementary primary sources are Cather's remaining two prairie novels - O Pioneers! (1913) and The Song of the Lark (1915) - and two books of the author's later artistic creation - Death Comes for the Archbishop (1927) and Sapphira and the Slave Girl (1940). The former two books function as a preliminary mapping of Cather's concerns developed in My Ántonia, the latter two texts present Cather's later reflections of otherness. The thesis focuses on Cather's incessant examination of the workings of the white, male, heteronormative discourse in the context of modern American nationhood: by her "queer" writing, she aims to unearth and subvert the coercive social mechanisms, and give voice to those who were eclipsed from the project of the rising economic empire: ethnic others (African Americans, Native Americans, European immigrants), and gendered and sexual others (women, homosexuals and lesbians). The identity of modern American society reposes on the construction of the social other and the artificial category of normality. Cather, on the other hand, examines the difference - sexual, racial,...
